First guitar I bought to graduate fromt the cheap Epiphone I started out on. 4 guitars further down the line, and the Åkerfeldt model is still my go to xD
The microphones are clearly not as good as some of the more modern PRS SE guitars I own, so I might upgrade them at some point, but as of now, they still do the job!
your knowledge of guitars especially PRS is very impressive. How do you feel about music man guitars? or should I say what would be your top 3 brands?
Musicman guitars are great and very comparable in quality. Choosing PRS for me is more a personal preference at this point. I got into PRS guitars because I preferred the way they looked and their more Gibson like leanings(vs Musicman which is a bit more fender like). I have a Purple Nebula Majesty 7 which I admire but don’t play that much. My top 3 brands are PRS, Gibson and ESP
@@ministryofguitar very nice taste. I would have said the same exact 3 brands if you had asked this when i was starting my collection as well. But once I got used to the thin oiled neck and stainless frets on my JP15 that is usually my first choice these days :)
I dunno, Modern Eagle will always have a rosewood neck for me hehe.
Have you played any of the newer SEs like the DGT and 594 and compare them to this Åkerfeldt SE? Heard they really upped the fit and finish of the SE lines. I have a hard time with the thick poly, myself...
I used to think the same way till the MEV abandoned the rosewood neck. Yes played a SE DGT and Paul’s guitar a bit and I have a bunch of SVNs and SE277s. Maybe I’m biased towards singlecut trems but I love the akerfeldt. Was about to buy a second one but it got sold out
I’m a huge Opeth and Prs Guitars fan as well, and I have the Akerfeldt Model too. I played some SE’s and for me too it’s the best SE. Your model seems to have a split coil but the original one don’t have a split coil since the HFS/Vintage bass the original pickups have only 2 wires. Maybe you don’t have the original pickups ?? I have nothing against the Original pickups, they do sound very well and never wanted to swap them. Great video and true story about the modern eagle, there is a video of Mikael Akerfeldt where he talked about it. It’s will be cool a version 2 of Mikael Akerfeldt Signature 😊
That’s interesting. I did know the originals did not have a split coil. Since I made this video, I managed to track down another one. I’m going to put core PRS USA pickups in both ( I have extras lying around), USA Pots and then these guitars will be perfect. 24 frets, Singlecut Trem, Ebony board, just the right size and weight
I have a split coil on my SE MÅ and I bought it in 2014. The tone/split coil control is glitching like crazy though which I need to fix/replace.
Same as @scyphe, I also have the 2014 model, and that came with split coil, so maybe they added it for the later models?
