I thank you for this tutorial because I could not figure out the conversion and I'm still working on cutting with them

You're 100% correct about the sizing. I am slowly switching from guards to detachable blades at the shop, as they give a cleaner cut and fade. Will be ordering the 1 1/4, 1 3/4, and the 3/4, then I'll be set. Thank you!

Thanks for all of your videos. I have a question for you. I have all of the Andis detachable blades except for the 3/4 and the 5/8. I'm thinking about buying them but would like your opinion, and the opinion of anyone else on here, if you have them and use them or have used them in the past. I talked to Ivan Zoot, aka The Clipper Guy on TH-cam, who used to be the Director of Education for Andis, and he said that any detachable blade, or guard, above a 1/2 inch doesn't do very well at cutting the hair. I sure would appreciate any advice you or anyone else would give me. Thanks in advance.

@@KentuckyMan I agree. The bigger blades don’t seem to be beneficial. Outside of being apart of the collection.

I have been using detachables for 12 years. Although the guard sizes may match the blade size, you also have to take in consideration the length of the blade under the guard as well. So the detachable blades always cut a little shorter.

I fade my hair with 000 oster 76 clippers. when barber uses plastic whal guards and I ask for a 000 fade. It seem twice as long as the oster. My hair doesn't look good past 1 and half. I prefer my oster 76 but I can do a drop fade with it because its wide. I hade a couple of times where I did it but I was really tired trying to get it perfect. lol

    00000 DETACHABLE BLADE = TRIMMERS
000 DETACHABLE BLADE = ADJUSTABLE CLIPPERS CLOSED
0A DETACHABLE BLADE = ADJUSTABLE CLIPPERS HALFWAY OPEN (IN BETWEEN A 0 AND A 1/2)
1 DETACHABLE BLADE = ADJUSTABLES CLIPPERS ALL THE WAY OPEN (SO IT'S A 1/2 SO IT'S BASICALLY THE SAME THING AS YOUR 1/16 GUARD CLOSED)
    1 1/4 DETACHABLE BLADE = 1/16 GUARD HALFWAY OPEN (IN BETWEEN A 1/2 AND A 1)
    1A DETACHABLE BLADE = 1 GUARD CLOSED
    1 1/2 DETACHABLE BLADE = 1 GUARD HALFWAY OPEN (IN BETWEEN A 1 AND A 1 1/2)
    1 3/4 DETACHABLE BLADE = 1 1/2 GUARD CLOSED OR 1 GUARD OPEN
    2 DETACHABLE BLADE = 2 GUARD CLOSED
    2 3/4 DETACHABLE BLADE = 2 GUARD OPEN
    3 1/2 DETACHABLE BLADE = 3 GUARD CLOSED
    3 3/4 DETACHABLE BLADE = 4 GUARD CLOSED
    5/8 DETACHABLE BLADE = 5 GUARD CLOSED
    3/4 DETACHABLE BLADE = 6 GUARD CLOSED

I use the 3- 3/4 blade daily, and despite what it says, it cuts more like a no2 guard, maybe slightly longer, but 100% doesn't cut to a no4 guard, I've just tried it on a fade, just to be sure, and after bulk removing with a no4 guard, I went over with a 3- 3/4 blade and it took a good amount off, I'm not quite sure why they label them wrong, or am I doing something wrong?

Great video however, learned a lot. However I thing it's important to explain the difference with the lever open vs closed when using guards. Keep up the great work.
