I love that we're not just filtering in other Lego themes and stories, but historical novels and real historical figures as well. The whole story of Roger Redbeard gives me some REAL Asterix-vibes, I'd love a short graphic novel adaptation of this documentary series!

I've always loved how a random figure from a bricks and more set became so important to Redbeard lore

Right? It's these kinds of random connections that made me want to do the videos in the first place.

I know I've commented before.., but these videos are so great, I've been rewatching them obsessively!
First up, at about 1:34 mark, we see Redbeard's family tree. I know the Little Golden Book definitively stated ONE of Cecili's grandfather was someone other than Redbeard.., we all have TWO grandfathers.., so, this family tree may still hold water!!
Also, a second observation, at about the 2:30 mark, eye patches are discussed. I do love your take (I do!!), but, eye patches may have had another purpose for pirates other than cover injuries..,
Courtesy of the Wall Street Journal and Mythbusters; "Some assume pirates wore eye patches to cover a missing eye or an eye that was wounded in battle, but in fact, an eye patch was more likely to be used to condition the eye so the pirate could fight in the dark."
That is, often pirates spent most of their time below decks in the dark. If having to come above (for example, to fight), they would just switch their patch to the other eye to save time adjusting to the light!
Again, LOVE your videos - these are SO great!! I can't wait to see what's next!!

Right on both counts there! Regarding Cecilia, the advance blurb for the Little Golden Book was released allllllll the way back in *October* of last year, and it mentioned that Cecilia would be joining her grandfather's crew, with the 2020 version of the Black Seas Barracuda featured prominently in the background. At the time, it seemed like a safe assumption that Redbeard was her grandfather; I certainly wasn't expecting him not to show up in the book at all.
It's actually that blurb that partially inspired this entire series; I've loved the way that random characters have been retconned into the Redbeard family over the years. With Cecilia seemingly part of the latest generation, I wanted to do a video detailing Redbeard's family tree, which then expanded into a biography covering his entire life. But it took so long for the book to come out that I'd already made two episodes by the time it was released.
You're right to point out that it's still possible for Redbeard to be her other grandfather (brings to mind the discussion about Paul McCartney's grandfather in Hard Day's Night), but since it's based entirely on my misinterpretation of the blurb, I'll be taking her off the family tree for future installments.
The events of the book will still play a big role in the saga of Redbeard and the Barracuda, though I'll be treading carefully because it looks like the Grandfather (in addition to originating in the 3-in-1 set) will be making another appearance in the upcoming Pirate River Quest ride, this time with a peg leg. Good thing there are still several episodes to go before we get into all that...
There are some additional Easter eggs to be found there; I did add the apocryphal Redbeard family members from the internal LEGO Island family tree, which sort of makes up for the loss of Cecilia. And bonus points if you can identify all the Blackbeards in episode 2. ;)
Excellent callout about the eye patches! Somehow I missed this even though I've been obsessed with pirate lore for years. It's a far better explanation for both the gratuitous use of eyepatches in the 2015 crew *and* for characters reappearing either without eyepatches or with them on the incorrect side.

Thank you so much for such a wonderfully thoughtful reply! I am such an enthusiastic viewer of your videos. It means the world to me that you replied so with such genuine interest. Thank you.
I *LOVE* the LEGO Pirates theme, and these in-universe productions (The Redbeard LEGO Universe?) are so informative and engaging (and, VERY entertaining).
One of my ultimate "goals" is to build a late 1700s/early 1800s LEGO port/harbor colonial village. Your videos are serving as inspiration for what I could include and minifigures I will *HAVE* to add!!
If my comments (specifically the eyepatch info) can lend any "help" in future productions (as if you needed any help.., but bear with me, I'm going somewhere with this...,), well, 'teamwork makes the dream work!'
I rather like the idea that there is a dedicated LEGO Pirate crew out there, supporting and encouraging each other as we can!
Many thanks again for all you're doing! Your fellow LEGO Pirate crew mates all over the world owe you big time!!

As much as I run around trying to connect the dots, I'm still surprised at the detail on some of these character backgrounds. (Rita LaQuay, for example--I'm not sure who pulled an obscure figure from a Dacta set and gave her an awesome backstory but I'm here for it.)

There's no official name for that pirate or his ship, but he could be Redbeard! I have a different theory in mind, since that set also appears to include an adult Will, but that will have to wait for Episode 4 or 5. :)

@@loreescape47 I personally nicknamed this minifig Captain Ironleg in reference to... well, you know what.
And I agree that the minifig with the white and red striped torso from the same set is adult Will. Milan Madge, who designed 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay, had himself implied that in a promo interview for his set, saying Will was indeed no longer part of the shipwrecked crew, but that it was possible he would be found in a near future (I write that from memory, can't remember the video or article where he said that).

The pirates are probably wearing eye patches because one of their eyes is for when they're inside the ship, which is much darker than the outside. They would switch eyes instead of having them adjust
