So happy for you, guys! Congratulations on your engagement!🎉 So cute that you shared this with us! It’s great to see such bright and sincere people like you!
Congrats Tom🎉!!! I’m so happy 😀 for you, I’ve been following you for so long that it’s as if I knew you in person! Best wishes for your adventure together ❤️
Love watching your videos here mate! I've used slang words like "Have a good one" and even Cheers which means Thanks so many times out and about either at my job & other situations.
Interesting, we here in America also say bit of a pickle, what a load of, have a good one, I beg your pardon, very similar - I wouldn't touch that with a bargepole, but we say it I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole, and last, anywhere here is fine. The phrases have the same meaning here as you British give them. It's interesting because some British and some Americans get exasperated with how the other uses some English words, all the while forgetting America started with British English. Between the two countries, over time American English has evolved less that British English, so we speak more like it's 1783 at the Treaty of Paris. OR it could be we adopted those phrases, but if we did we did it a long time ago. It seems America and Britain are closer than we realize. Anyway I enjoyed this video, and congrats on your engagement! Cheers!
My Gen Z Ukrainian lass living with us LOVES "Cheers, mate!" and uses it all the time, especially as she knows I hate it! (Hey, I'm a Boomer. What more can I say?!)
Hey TOM I am visiting your channel after a very long time. I hope you are doing alright mate. I wish you stay happy and healthy always. Can you make a video on - How to stay fluent even if you are not speaking or practicing English everyday , like you go for a vacation and you are using your mother tongue ( not English) then you get back but still stay fluent
oh I have one tip and it works in my case. I try to wake up early around 5 having a chat with my dad in my mother tongue. At work I try to catch up with my coworkers anytime I can, gossip about stuff in life etc. Go visit my old friends sometimes. After a month I become super fluent...in my native language. You can do that too!
Congratulations Tom! I'm so happy for you and Shana :) I hope you two have a wonderful life with lots of joy, adventure and health 🙏 In Turkish we say '' Allah tamamına erdirsin.'' ( May you have a long-lasting marriage) Greetings from Turkey👋 Çağlar.
I lived in England with a host family and I remember my host mom and I discussing how the Brits "pop" and the Americans "drop" A British phrase I remember hearing once in a great while was "to take a piss". I heard it used in several different ways and I think I got the gist (jist) at the time but I couldn't for the life of me use it properly. I am not sure really what it means. It seemed threatening, it seemed like "don't threaten me or I will do something bad" but I really never figured it out. I only heard it rarely on TV and maybe twice in a pub but everyone seemed to know exactly what it meant. I literally asked what it meant and I was told more than once "it means to take a piss". ? This meant nothing to me, I eventually decided it meant "piss off" but I was never confident with this opinion.
8:06 Dogs barking 😂 That's really annoying, I remember when I was sleeping so good one night and those bastards start barking like crazy... At 3 am in the morning 😂
I don't really want to spoil anybody fun but.. Who really want to sound very British?. Being myself a Spanish person when I speak English I sound like a person not being Brithish born or being brought up there.. But when I speak I don't really have any problem getting my message across... Better than sounding "very British" you should try to sound "understandable".. 🎉🎉🎉
To be understood by other people is definitely a goal. But some people want to have a very good pronunciation and they thoroughly learn it. In this case they will choose which exactly accent they would like to speak with - American or British as they are rather different. That's the point. Most people don't care about it. That's ok too.
Your message is very importrant :) but Tom does not make us learn hindi. He told us about his engagement in English which is very important :) You seem to be a very polite person haha By the way - not "the hindi". The names of languages go without an article.

Saved the word “nuisance”. It sounds great and it puts me to sleep. Keep up the great job, Tom.

You can also use pop for doing something virtually. Like a call handler saying “I’m just going to pop you on hold”
All of them excellent expressions. Thank you Tom!

"Have a good one" is totally common in the US, not just UK.
In the US we say "ten-foot pole" rather than "barge pole".
My congratulations, Tom!
What an amazing video ❤ thank you 👏👏👏
You are so welcome Denise!

"have a good one" is pretty common here in the USA, too. So is "what a load of_____", now that I think of it.

In Portuguese, we have the word "oi" that means "hello! ". I have always wondered if they are related somehow
Ohhh maybe? Do you think Portuguese sailors brought it over or something?
@@EatSleepDreamEnglish I actually never thought about this particular explanation. It's possible, since it's only used by the working class, right?
Used quite a lot here in Brazil as well.
@@TioDeive I'm Brazilian
The #17 is quite the same as in Brazil. "Qualquer lugar por aqui tá bom (pra mim)"
Love it!
We also say that in Portugal.
@@loboclaudGreat to know! I didn't speak on behalf of Portugal for not being sure of it. We also use variants: pode parar (por) aqui, aqui tá bom
He couldn't pour piss out of a boot with the instructions on the heel.
PS Mazal tov!
"What's that in aid of" "You havin' a laugh" "What's that when it's at home" Plus many more. This American is a self-proclaimed Anglophile.
My dad would start saying we better make a move bout 10 minutes after we got there!🤣
Haha I think we have the same dad!
Is Downton Abbey really hauted?😮
