    Always good to see Williams make a cameo.
    I've grated it and mixed it with Arko or Palmolive and, believe me, the resulting uberlather is amazing. No artisan soap even comes close.

    • @nicetna2010

      If you grate the WMS finely, it will melt down. Just use quick spurts of 30 seconds in the microwave at 1/3 power. Or low heat on the stove in a double boiler.
      Either way will work fine. The Williams really works a treat when mixed with Arko or Palmolive.

    I have both razors. The Nodachi has a lot more blade feel. In terms of aggressiveness, I find it more similar to Christopher Bradley's plate D (than C). They are both outstanding. Congrats on the excellent review.

    Hi Chris,
    I received my Nodachi razor with open and closed comb plates last week and used it with a Vikings Sword blade as recommended by Kevy. An amazing shave, my best so far! I'm not mad on the look of the handle but it works. My Chubby 2 super badger brush is working well and not shedding...as yet. The Tatara is the smoothest razor I've ever used and I have quite a few high end razors. I am awaiting delivery of the Masamune •63 now also with open and closed combs. I hope you are well Chris and staying safe.

      Tell me if the Nodachi is very different from the closed plate. Does it make sense to buy an open one if they have a closed stove?

      @Ник Грек I bought my Nodachi with open and closed comb. I like both but it is basically personal choice. The closed comb is a little safer. If you think the Nodachi will be a bit too aggressive, try the original Masamune that has a •63 blade gap.

      @AnotherCutAbove  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah i guess aesthetics are very personal but im not a fan of the tatara look and as always i tell it like it is. It is however beautifully made and finished and shaves very smoothly if not a touch too aggressive for my soft skin. Given that they have no future plans of trying a more main stream modern looking handle i honestly believe it will hamper their growth a little. Their customer service is also excellent along with their eco friendly packaging approach! loads of positives for sure.

    Great review Cris! The thing I like about the Christopher Bradley name is this, it’s like they made a razor so good they they put their name on it as a way of standing behind the product, ie, I believe this is so great, I even stake my name on it.. that’s what I get from it.

    • @AnotherCutAbove
      @AnotherCutAbove  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I get the buddy I really do, and I love the back story. But it’s too long winded and if you said to someone “guess what the Christopher Bradley is?” I don’t think anyone could. At the end of the day the name doesn’t affect the shave. I guess I’m just a person who prefers shorter more exciting names, names that hit the spot.

    Has 6 different options using all the heads (Masamune, OC and Nodachi) and goes from -0,13 to 0.13. Theres a table with the options.
    Also you should be able to use different handles, but only in the Nodachi head.

    Hi Cris, my first and only razor is an Above The Tie Kronos S1 Slant Solid Bar that I bought a decade ago. Been very happy using it with KAI blades. But I’ve only compared blades, not razors. So I’d appreciate a brief comparison to the Tatara Masamue and Christopher Bradley SS, although there are so many options for caps and combs, I don’t know if that’s even possible. With all the options available, does it just come down to aesthetic preference? Thank you.

      I've only used the nodachi from tatara, it's very efficient with quite a bit of blade feel! The Karve is the smoothest razor I have used to be fair. The Nodachi was amazing on 2+ days growth but no chance it could be a daily driver for me. I would say the nodachi is closely feeling to the D plate on the Karve and very smooth as well. The aestethics of the tatara really put me off though.

    Great work comparing the Karve and Nodachi, Cris. I've enjoyed your videos almost as much as my 6 daily shaves with the Masamune, which have left me very happy with this razor -- including the handle, which can't be switched out on the Masamune.
    But there's one unusual thing about the Masamune that I've noticed, and I wonder if you found the same thing on the Nodachi. It's what I call the "squeegee effect." The razor removes so much of the lather and associated moisture from the face that residual slickness drops dramatically, even in soaps famous for having it (such as Noble Otter and B&M excelsior and reserve, to name 3 I've used the razor with). I can address the problem by rewetting the razor before reshaving an area. This restores water to the face and reactivates the soap's native residual slickness. I"m thinking that this effect is a byproduct of the razor's vice-like grip on the blade, which is a good thing, of course, and that I can reduce it even better by working more water into the lather. That's my plan, at least, over my next few shaves. But possibly it's a byproduct of the Masamune's negative blade exposure, which invites more pressure on the face, in which case I'll need to let up in that regard. It would help me to know if you've noticed anything similar with the Nodachi. Cheers!

    • @AnotherCutAbove
      @AnotherCutAbove  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t honestly say I’ve used it enough to say. The nodachi has pronounced positive blade exposure and gets super close. I’ll make sure to try and highlight it during my next use of the razor.
      Cracking comment buddy.
      On another note I though I read in a couple of forums that the masamune handle fits the Nadachi? Tatara messaged me to make me aware that I can mix and match the 2 available top caps with the 3 available base plates! Giving 6 settings and full interchangeability?

    • @Warren.I
      @Warren.I 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll keep these additional options in mind, as I'm pretty sure you're hearing it right -- that the Nodachi cap could take the Masamune handle. The only salient difference between the two caps is that, on the Masamune's, the threaded post is thread-free for 6 mm or so extending downward from the cap itself. The reason you can't use other makers' handles on the Masamune is that, when its cap and base plate are assembled, the thread-free part of the post extends past the base plate by around 2 mm. That's no problem for the Masamune handle since it matches the threadless length of post by being itself unthreaded for the last few mm looking into it. Not so other DE handles, which don't have an internal thread free length and which therefore can only engage the threaded part of the Masamune post, leaving them a couple of mm short of the mark. What Tatara did to change things was have the threads run all the way up and down the post of the Nodachi's cap. This lets generic handles be tightened all the way onto the head assembly. Looking at Illustrations of the two caps on Tatara's website, I see no reason why the last 6 mm of the Masamune head couldn't slip over the extra threading on the Nodachi cap's post. It seems to be narrower in gauge than the unthreaded part of the Masamune cap. I will check with Tatara before I buy a Nodachi cap or base plate for my razor -- which I could see doing down the road -- but I'd be surprised if I couldn't do this.
      But e
