The money is already gone. And it is structured so the company you owe the debt to is NOT the one that went out of business. You have no standing to sue THAT company.
I knew years ago that Smile Direct was not going to replace Invisalign nor was it legit. I had this talk with my orthodontist back in 2017 and she assured me that having an orthodontist monitor your bite and teeth is crucial and you could not get that with Smile Direct. One of my coworkers got Smile Direct in the beginning of 2018. I told her to get Invisalign to have an ortho track her results. She said it was too expensive. Fast forward 10 months, she ended up getting Invisalign and said Smile Direct wasn't fixing her bite.
I think smile direct was a scam. They straighten teeth, but there is no one to check the bite and make sure the top and bottom teeth are fitting together.
This is really horrible for customers who did not finish their treatment. I finished my treatment in march of 2023 and im thrilled about the results and always had great service with them. It sucks that the guarantee won't be in place.
I also had a great experience and my teeth look great but where does that leave us now? We'll have to go to another ortho and spend hundreds, if not thousands again
It is better to get a lawyer and sue. Stopping a payment to a finance company will decrease your credit score significantly. To reverse to effects of a negative mark on your credit score is a long and arduous process if even possible, when the company who issued to negative report is defunct or unwilling to participate.
I was in the middle of a virtual return of my aligners when the company went bankrupt. Now their finance company keeps calling me telling me I still owe the full amount even though Smile Direct Club had told me to cut up my aligners for the virtual return. Very frustrating! I hope someone will come up with a way to fight back.
My SDC program worked well and I used/bought a handful of retainers the last few years, but now where do I get my retainers? Will new impressions work as well as my SDC historical scan?
I'm going through the same thing. People may say my teeth look great. But for me, it's not exactly about that. My bite is terribley off. And my bottom teeth are grinding underneath my top teeth when I need to chew and talk. My jaw hurts as well. Not a very comfortable position. 😮 They didn't leave me with a smile at all!! 😡 I feel ghosted.👻 And yes, I'm still paying for complete disservices. I will probably have a lawsuit down the line. 👩🏼⚖️
You poor thing. I can’t believe that these charlatans can get away with taking money, making promises and not delivering. I had gaps but it was grinding(overbite/overjet etc) at the back of my top front teeth that had me, at the age of 43, wearing traditional braces for 18 months. My orthodontist explained that cases like mine don’t suit Invisalign, let alone do-it-yourself home kits. It was so expensive but my new bite brought home how important good teeth alignment is.
There are plenty of products on the market that offer a "Lifetime Guarantee" or extended multi-decade guarantee. I always wondered how do I redeem this guarantee, and to whom, 30 years from now or if the company no longer exists.
Don’t pay change your bank account! Let them sue you if they even bother. They probably won’t because your countersuit regarding dental harm from the sudden stop in treatment. It’s like if you joined a gym and buy the next month they are closed, but you paid upfront for the month but you’ve signed a two-year contract that would be like the gym. Trying to sue you after they close for the rest of the two years of gym access for the gym that’s no longer in existence that you can’t use. Imagine there any judge or jury is going to be on the side of a huge corporation that literally ruined peoples teeth gums and jaws.
I’m from the uk and I’m also left hanging in limbo. Had no idea they were even going bankrupt!! 😢so now I’ve been left with an unfinished plan and £1300 (pounds down) I paid upfront for my plan. I also changed banks at Xmas so not able to claim any money back! There’s a support group on Facebook but we’re all completely left in limbo there’s no one that’s picking up to guide or what we do. 😢😢😢 help!
Smile direct liners cut my gums and I got permanent damage. Then they gave me the shaft. I’m not shocked they are going out of business. Good riddance.
My dentist saved my life just when I was considering getting SDC he advised me to not get it because there’s no one monitoring the process 😆look at god!
If you make your own impressions smile direct won’t work. If you have your teeth scanned and wear each progression like your supposed to it works great. I have worn my retainer EVERY NIGHT for the past five years and my teeth look great.
OMG!!! You have got to be kidding me!! I was supposed to order new retainers next month. I've been ordering retainers since 2018, where does that leave me and people like me?? They owe to be sued just for leaving us out in the cold!
Sorry, you should just let it go. The company no longer exists, ergo there is no entity to sue. You should probably let it go, and move on. I empathize with you, but 💩 happens. That's life
Another corrupt company. I say this because no business applies for and is granted bankruptcy the same day or overnight. Smile Direct already had this in the works all along while taking orders and promoting the use of that separate finance company. Bankruptcy is a legal process, which for the most part, is never that swift. Financial records have to be reviewed and so on. As soon as they knew they were filing bankruptcy, they should've informed current and potential new customers on their website. Shameful!
Healthcare in the US is going great lol... if you are one of the many middleman making it expensive or cutthroat looking for a quick buck like smile direct.
Source: I had braces for 6 years, they did nothing at all and they certainly shouldn't have caused thousands of dollars not included under conventional dental insurance which is also a scam. Universal health Care now.
People need to band together and figure out how to go about setting up a class action lawsuit against Smile Direct before the money is gone.
The money is already gone. And it is structured so the company you owe the debt to is NOT the one that went out of business. You have no standing to sue THAT company.

I went through the same thing with Finest Dental. I continued to pay the finance company.

If the company doesn't exist, the lifetime guarantee dispears
Apparently, when the company goes down, so does the guarantee
It's for the lifetime of the business, not the lifetime of consumer.

I ordered some touch up aligners, as it’s after I completed it. I’m not sure if I’ll receive those now.
Did they return the money??💰
No. Customers who paid in full did not, will not get anything back.
I’m trying to get in touch. With them for my touch up . No answer what should I do
I had no issues either. But i also seen a dentist and orthodontist first as well. Unfortunately people who didn't may had major issues.
That's what happens when you try to bypass the actual professionals that look after you.
No one behind the door

I’m in the same boat. Logged on last week to order a new retainer and discovered the news.
My dentist was able to order an Invisalign retainer. It cost way more than Smile Direct Club, but it's supposed to last for years.

I agree! I saw Facebook ads for Smile Direct Club just days before they shut down.
I had a shtty experience messed up my bite . Got Invisalign instead

Good their ads were annoying.
Braces themselves are a scam, but at least get it from ...a real dental professional.

How are braces a scam? They literally do exactly what they’re supposed to. Mind you, they are expensive as hell, but they work.
@@-chanye- the OP probably had braces and never used their retainers and complained that braces don't work.
Braces are NOT a scam they work a lot better than any aligners
Whaaaa?
Well. I fixed my teeth with them, and I love my result. Everyone says my teeth looks amazing.
This was a long repetitive interview
