Would you please make more videos like this one for a beginner that would adopt a wild mustang? Teaching type videos are awesome ..going through basic vet care needs such as worming and how often, etc. Saddles, bits, water treatment, automatic water heater. For us in the colder states. Things that you probably take for granted from being around seasoned horse ppl that isn't as plentiful near us in midwest. All the tack and horsetrailer you said not to have was exactly what I grew up with to take care of our horses. There are so many things that could be taught that would possilbly open the eyes of horse owners that have never known any other way was out there. Appreciate your help.
The only horses I own are Mustangs. They are literally the best horse you will ever find. They are better than any domestic horse really. I have always used rope halters on my horses. They are absolutely outstanding. Not only that, web halters teach the horse how to lean against pressure instead of give to pressure. Rope halters make it uncomfortable to lean against pressure so they will give to it more easily. All my rope halters have the pressure point knots on them as well. Drop ramp trailers are horrible. I hear more nightmare stories about those things than I do about swing gate trailers. We have a big 4-horse slant, and whenever we adopt a wild one, we tie the slant panels back and it acts just like a bog stock trailer. It is a swing gate trailer as well. I have seen wild ones try and climb 6 foot fencing before. Not fun. We have 6 foot BLM certified corral panels and they work perfectly. They even work for the domestics we work with! All this info in this video is very well presented and if anyone wants to adopt a wild horse, they need to watch this. Mustangs rule!!!!!
Radioactive Bunny I agree with alot of your comment here. Even though I have not owned a mustang. ..I must say the Tennessee Walker/Fox Trotter are one of the calmest sweetest horses there are. I would suggest one for any first time horse owner esp. teenagers and smooth riding for us old folk too...LOL 🏇

I already knew everything in this video, but i still though it was cool! :) I've been planning on adopting a mustang for months, but with school and showing AAA with my oldenburg and thoroughbred I just don't have time right now. I am in fact doing it this summer though. Super excited :)
YES i fully agree with the halter. i never use halter with metal buckles. its the weakest link. I use the normal cowboy rope halters. I never broke a cowboy halter. That and the rope i tied never came undone before either. Much better then clips and metal buckles. I got a question though After you got a mustang to calm down and broke. Do you still need a 6 foot fence? Like could i turn them out to pasture with normal fencing after the mustang is broke?
I only use rope halters for training, never for anything else, only breakaways because one of ours lost half his lower jaw cause his halter got stuck. Webbing with breakaway leather crowns are safer.
At least several years ago BLM TOLD you to provide a nylon webbing halter. When we adopted Buddy that was the halter the web page said we were required to bring with us. That's what we brought that what we used and we never had a problem. Having said that, rope halter are better for train because the provide more direct feedback to the horse.
That's cool Haley ,If you call the Mustang Heritage Foundation, they will be able to put you in contact with someone near you who is a mustang handler. Them horses will handle the washington weather just fine. Happy trails
Hi, I am looking into adopting a musting very soon. Wondering if you can do an updated video on how to adopt these wild mustangs. Answering things like how to do the application, whether to do an online auction or make an apt and come to a facility, the average cost of adopting a mustang and if coat and size contributes to cost increase, what happens when u get to the facility and or win the auction, do you have to keep the tag on for a certin length of time, how long it takes to get the title, how often if at all does blm come to inspect, these are some of my questions thanks so much.
I have rescued a mustang Arabian cross , beautiful gelding , but ima need ya to pray for me. The last owners said he will jump a 4 foot pen clean. No problem . Just to great you. Yes he’s in a 6ft pen now lol 😂 I was like nope. The attitude of a Arabian but the spirit and love of a mustang. Yes we have a rope halter too. Lol
jerricho11 Their coat is a factor. If you buy one during winter from someone that lives in Florida and the mustang has lived there for awhile, they aren't going to be adjusted to the cold weather, just like other horses. But as long as that's not the case, they're actually very Hardy! I live in North Dakota, right next to the Minnesota border. It gets ridiculously cold here! But there are two mustangs at my barn. One is a captive bred Spanish mustang, and the other is a BLM mustang that used to be wild. Both are fine here during the cold winter's. You might need to blanket them in extreme temps, just like any other horse, but they'll be fine in Minnesota! Hope that helps. :)
I have always wanted a mustang but we could never afford a horse and we didn't have good property for a horse, I was wondering how I could get more practice and experience with wilder horses so I would be more confident with them when the time comes that I can finally get one... any ideas? Also, I live in Washington so would a mustang be able to handle the colder and wetter climate up here?
How wide of a trailer is exceptable? In my area the widest stock I've seen is 6 foot commonly and 7 foot high. And I've been told that will be rejected.

I have adopted 3 Mustangs over the years. The bond you get with them doesn't compare to domestic horses.
