I kinda love how not being able to romance Garrus in ME1 kinda works. In ME1, they have more of a mentor/mentee dynamic and he's still got some growing/learning to do. Come ME2, they've both been through hell and the last 2 years has made them be on much more of an equal level. That said, I will forever believe that ME1 Garrus had a huge crush on Shepard but was completely oblivious to it until Shep in ME2 is like "Let's skip right to the tie breaker"... him being down for that is what clues him in.
Garrus: "I don't think I've ever met someone like you, Commander."
I basically think that he just never thought Shepard would be interested in him. It's clear in the way he talks about it in the ME2.
Garrus changes quite a lot between ME1 and ME2. He goes from being awkward, stilted and serious to smooth, confident and full of smart-assed quips. Two years on Space Detroit did him a lot of good...

When I did my Femshep playthrough of ME3 I heard that for the first time and I was dying. I had watched a video on Jack's comments on your squad members at one point and that line wasn't in it so I was taken completely off guard and simply flabbergasted.

garrus is my canon romance. i romance him EVERY playthrough and he still has me blushing and literally getting up to pace the room. i love him so much, perfect amount of fluff, angst, and smut-ish lol. plus i love that jennifer hale loves this romance sm.

Plot twist: Vega gave Garrus dancing lessons and wanted to see the results.
I confess, I was a little curious when I saw that Garrus was romanceable the first time I played ME because in my late teens I couldn't picture myself feeling attracted to someone with nothing physically close to humans (except for having eyeballs). But I went in with an open mind. In first game I was just chuckling at his interactions, especially when you bring him along inside the Mako on expeditions (Shepard is allegedly an atrocious driver). He showed himself thoughtful, loyal and funny, with just the right amount of sarcasm. Absolutely best bud right there. But then ME2 hit and there's the Archangel reveal, and that's when my mind went both "Missed you so" and "Oh no, he's hot" hahaha.
when this first came out, I was *bouncing around* at the Shakarian Tango. they gave my favorite romance in the game a *fucking TANGO*. Over the moon.
Fun fact: the developers never actually considered making Garrus a romance option at first. The only reason they made him one in 2, is because they saw all the fan art. (There was a lot, apparently.) Then, they made Tali one as well, for the broshep.
Something else, if you don't already know, the actor playing Garrus was in an episode of Castle. It's clipped on TH-cam, he even drops into the Garrus voice a couple of times, but he's a little unhinged.
He actually develops into a genuine smooth talker in the Citadel DLC. Now THAT'S character development!
Femshep teaches him how to sweet talk a lady, and he teaches her how to dance. Fuck i love those two.
The paragon version of the shooting challenge is way better. "I'm Garrus Vakarian, and this is now my favorite spot on the Citadel!"

I am shocked that this video did not include all the scenes with Shepard and Garrus. There were some funny ones with Jack, Zaeed and Javik that were missing. Also, Mordin's advice.
Oh yeah, Mordin's advice should 100% be here. It is one of the best lines in all three games. I love it.
Mordin trying to help with the Tali romance was also one of the best lines.
I think Garrus/Tali are the most "canon" feeling relationships to me, the devs clearly put a ton of effort into them and they fit for both male and female shepherd regardless of your paragon/renegade leanings.

Or maybe is just a case the writting being just better for those, since each character gets a different writter. Maybe thats why they're so popular.

The person who recorded this missed some scenes. Plus, you can talk to Mordin before the main romance scene and he'll comment about the romance.
Also, after the suicide mission, talk to your romantic interested, then you can invite them up to your cabin and hang out with them.
Edit: after watching more of this video I realized they missed some other fun/cute romance commentary.
Based on the reaction, I think someone has found her excuse to do another run of the ME Trilogy.....you know, to test their reach and flexibility!

I always pick destroyed cause In beginning that's what Shepard's main goal was get rid of the reapers. The right choice isn't always the easy one but I believe EDI would've understand why I Pick that much as I don't liked it I don't see any other way and the reapers can not get away with mass murder.

it's what the game was pushing you to do the whole time and what you would have done automatically if not for the horrible ai kid saying ~choices~ which is one reason why the ending was so bad in the first place
if destroy was the automatic choice it would be far less complicated not only to write around and let shepard live but it makes the most sense aznd isn't some far out notion of having a ai shepard overlord or re-writing everyone's dna without consent
i do feel for the ai the geth and edi but they were prepared to die just like the rest of the population and i'm sure they especially knew the probability of the reapers being destroyed will also impact them
hell, it was a part of edi's arc her whole conversation of why prisoners' would die to save others (that conversation) mirrors what happens and her putting her live on the line to save others with the destroy ending
it just overalls fits the best in my mind
i know some people try to argue why would you get the quarian and geth to cooperate if they die anyway but again, they die on their own terms and died in peace living in harmony with their creators (and it benefits the quarian people immensely too)
yes, it's sad and i feel bad for them but i'd personally rather do what must be done rather than listen to some old god machine thing who thinks murdering civilizations is the answer

When I first played my first ever run [December 16th, 2022] (Infiltrator, War Hero) I went with the Ashley Romance & Stayed Loyal (My least favorite fr) but now after 3 Runs (on my FOurth) Just saw the Cabin scene with garrus! AGH! How did I not go with this before!!!. I can't wait to do ME3 with the Citadel DLC!

I loved your reactions to Garrus romance! It's my favorite because not only he's a true friend who will always be there for you, but also because everyone has a little bit of Garrus in him or her. And it makes that character an immediately relatable one. I'm super awkward with women, so I connected with him instantly. And he has the heart at the right place.
However, what the hell was that game?! :D Wrex and Mordin dead? The Genophage cure sabotaged? I don't even do that in my renegade games! I just find it too cruel and nobody messes with my crew! I would never betray Wrex since he's my next best friend after Garrus. Renegade Shepard doesn't have to be psychopathic, he/she is simply blunt, impolite, undisciplined and ruthless sometimes, but you don't have to be mean with your crew.
Eh, I can justify it:
Wrex pointed a gun at Shepard on Virmire and made it clear he intended to disobey Shepard's orders. _Maybe_ you can get him to back down, but how can you guarantee Wrex will _stay_ on your side? Anything could happen in the labs, and the last thing you want is a Krogan shooting you in the back.
The Krogan once plunged the whole galaxy into total war and, apart from Wrex and Eve, basically every Krogan you meet is a brute that just wants to kill everything they see. Sabotaging the cure is the safe play for galactic stability, plus it guarantees both Salarian and Krogan support for Earth at a time when you need all the help you can get.

To explain the ending:
The military strength you build up through the game determines how protected the Crucible is. The more damage it takes from the Reapers, the less options you are given. If the Crucible is protected, the Destroy blast will only target Reaper Tech Synthetics. If it's damaged, the blast will rebound, targeting other Synthetics, including Shepard's implants, and even Earth in the worst case.
Shepard limped away and returned to the rubble of London.
There is no strength level where the destroy option only targets Reapers, what does happen is that if you have 7800 or above as strength then Shepard survives and your partner refuses to put of your name on the memorial wall on the Normandy. It will always destroy all synthetics including the relays regardless of strength.

This made me a big fan of Garrus’s voice actor Brandon Keenan.
Hopefully you check out different versions of this and maybe some others, his party lines of both versions, his additional dialog and character interaction regarding romance.

And for your next Playthrough, there is actually a MOD where Shepard Survives the Ending... in THE HAPPY ENDING MOD... ONLY the Reapers are destroyed. The Geth, Edie, and even Shepard LIVE, and you officially see them on the Normandy in the final scene! ✌️😎

Not a fan of his romance tbh. In ME2 it felt more a fling between teenagers than a serious romance which putted me off instantly. "WaNt to TesT mY flExIbIliTy?!" In ME3 it gets better I'll admit.
Thane's romance is my personal favorite for femShep. Really emotional, mature and heartbreaking yet so tender and sweet, always brings tears to my eyes. kaidan is a nice romance as well , love the drama in ME2 and how he cooks for you on the Citadel DLC. Don't get the hate he gets, it's ridiculous.

they are best friends so it's awkward and garrus makes jokes to break the ice and so does shepard because they already know each other well enough so they aren't starting from scratch like all the other romances (besides tali, in which it's exactly the same [the awkwardness])
obviously you can have a preference but it doesn't make the romance any less serious because jokes are made and they have to adjust to the change in relationship status only knowing each other one way and now shifting into another
garrus always has and always will joke with shepard anyway, it's how some LI's are with bioware, doesn't mean he's not serious all the time (for example it's the same in DA with alistair, zevran, isabela, sera, dorian & iron bull but it doesn't make the romances teenagery)
anyway, i'm not mad about your opinion i'm just defending why I like it because it's actually my favorite romance
not only is it slow burn friends to lovers but it has a bunch of different aspects to a relationship... i laugh, i cry and i feel they have a unbreakable bond i don't feel with many other pairings
as far as the other two romances you mentioned, i also like them too (there isn't much romances i dislike besides jacob and james vega fling for obvious reasons)
thane is great but it's hard to compare it because of the lack of content, me2 doesn't really have much depth as me3 does with relationships
i really like kaidan's, there isn't some big thrill to it i feel with garrus but it's really wholesome and nice
@@nightfrost1891 Fair enough. Everybody is entittled to their opinion. If Garrus's romance stirrs all possible emotions in you then I don't judge you for finding it the best pairing. Just like Tali and Thane's romance for me, they stirr lots of emotions and feelings on me and more which is why I find those 2 the best romances.

My favorite is Kaidan. Second is Thane. I prefer Garrus with Tali. They are so darn cute together.
