I recommend the Formal skin btw, it might cost actual money but it's easily his nicest one
Damage is a little tricky on doom but generally your best combo is to punch em against a wall, walk up to them while shooting, then quick melee. It also helps to alternate between shooting and quick melee when you're up close since his gun reloads automatically. He's far from the most straightforward character but he's so much fun once you get him going. If you have more interest in him and wanna see what he can really do, you can check out videos doom players like ZBRA and GetQuakedOn. I've also got a video on my channel showing off some easy doom combos
