I remember my grandma sending me that ET VHS tape in the late 80's. The green top made it feel even more special. I really love that movie but it always made my brother cry at the end. lol
Call me strange, but my favorite part of E.T. is the beginning when you get to see the everyday goings on of the family. Same with "Poltergeist". Brings back childhood memories of that era

Yeah, it's so cool to see everything the way it was, the way I remember it: the houses, clothes, cars, toys, bikes, etc...Those were the greatest times ever.

It was really cool of my friend Scott to give me that...he didn't even know I was planning this ET collection video!
Don't wake me up too soon... (this film breaks my heart). But, that ET/Brontosaurus plush is hilarious! It's as if the designer had never seen ET at all. That's what makes it so grand! 😂
Yeah! It's like someone just described to them what it should look like and they made it sight unseen!
I think the E.T. game gets an unfair wrap for being so bad as Howard Scott Warshaw made a Raiders of the Lost Ark game a few months before that that's just as, if not more confusing to play.
But I remember my parents buying me a E.T. that finger glowed from a market, but it didn't work, so they took it back and they didn't have any to replace it, so was really upset on the way home.
The only way I could play the Raiders game was to send away to Atari for some "cheat sheets". I got those and they told you step by step how to get through the game.
The E.T. finger story is heartbreaking.

The fact you need to use a second joystick to play Raiders shows how confusing it can be.
But yeah, I was quite upset about that, never got an E.T. toy ever :(

So weird - My theater just showed E. T. on Sunday and I went to it. I was thinking this was an older video, but the timing is uncanny for me that you release this today.
That worked out pretty good for both of us!

E.T. is my favorite movie of all time.
It's one of the best 80s movies!
Great video! I was born in 1988 (about 3 months before the VHS release) and E.T. was one of the very first movies I ever saw and it was definitely the first film to have a tremendous impact on me as a young boy.
I never had too much of the merchandise when I was little. I started collecting more of the merchandise in the late 90s. I came across the board game, the card game, the storybook, those figures from Applause, the "Phone Home" Pizza Hut glass that my best friend let me have (he and his family were big E.T. fans too), the Book of the Green Planet book, and a doll that Toys R Us sold for the film's 20th anniversary release which I still have in my room. And of course I have many copies of the movie; 3 copies (2 sealed, 1 opened) of the 1988 VHS, the 2002 box set release and the 30th anniversary blu-ray steelbook that Target came out with.
That E.T. doll yelling at you cracked me up.
It cracked me up after I edited it in there!
I somehow managed to get the whole collection of E.T. trading cards fairly easily, and out of all the series I collected, that's the only one I completed. I still have it!
Sweet! The only set of cards I ever completed was Return of the Jedi.
I like how the videos on this channel look like they were recorded with an 80's camcorder. Don't know if that's intentional or not but I enjoy the content big time. Thanks for taking me back.

As far as E.T. novelties go, I had the paperback novelization, the trading cards, and this plastic figure you put a battery in so his fingertip would light up when you flicked a switch.
It was my first movie... and E.T. scared the crap out of me. Cut me some slack I was 2. I picked up copies of the novelization and The Book Of The Green Planet at a used book store recently but haven't gotten around to reading them yet.

That's an incredible collection! I recently got the E.T. Nightlight at a flea market. I also have a small E.T. in a spaceship still in the package. I actually just saw an E.T. ring this past weekend at a yard sale, but they wanted too much. :-(

I remember both TRON and E.T. being in theatres at the same time. I didn't care about E.T. at all, but being a video game nerd, I totally wanted to see TRON. My parents had exactly the opposite opinion, and they were the ones paying when we went to the theatre, so... we saw E.T. I ended up thinking it was great, and eventually got to see TRON, but not for many years.
I definitely wanted to see Tron, too - after seeing all the Tron videogames there were. We rented the VHS when it came out.

I've recently brought the whole set of trading cards on eBay, just in case you didn't know their still available for only like $30 for the whole set. Have you been to the ET house in LA yet mate? Hi Paul! It is great you can still get all those cards now. I recently got the last two stickers that I needed to complete my Return of the Jedi set! I have not been to the ET house yet, I have never been to LA, but I might be going to LA later this year. So maybe I will see it!

Pizza Hut in 1982 was awesome. Not like today with the fast food feel and the Pan Pizza soaked in grease
I thought I remembered it being better back then...I think I've only had it once or twice in the last 5 years.
Return of the Jedi is what I got to see in the cinema in 1983. :( Had to wait for the VHS release in Australia to see ET.

This is the one we had..don't know who gave it to my parents, but even tho it was talking model apparenty, we never had any talking reels for it..Gotta be my fav toy of the 80s, View-Master...would love to get the reels I had again & a good selection of the other TV Show/Movie sets from that era..there's endless amounts of travel/scenic stuff & more as well

Yes that did bring back many memories. The world was a total different place back then.Before the internet and cable TV movies like that were a big deal. My mom bought me all kinds of ET collectibles but the one thing I was hoping maybe you could help me with is an ET wrist watch. It is metal and glass with a blue faux leather wristband with a picture of ET himself on the face. It is pretty nicely made. Have you seen anything like that before or do you know where I could find out about it. Thanks for the video and the Journey Back in Time.

Ok this may be a long shot. But do you remember a book called Letters to ET? I had a copy of the book, I got it from my grandmom. I don't know where she got it or how she found it, can't ask her now because she passed away 2 years ago. But anyways there was a letter in the book I remember to this day, a lady who cried during the scene where ET dies she lost her contacts due to crying so much and due to that she couldn't see the rest of the movie when Stephen Spielberg heard about that he gave her a free pass to see the movie again and bought her new contacts. So if you know of anywhere I can get a copy of the book I'll be happy as hell.

I have the complete ET sticker album. It was really cheap. Do you have Speak N Spell? Hardly any Elliot stuff out there. Did you get that cartridge from the desert? Saw one with dirt on it on ebay!
I never got a Speak 'n Spell - we played with the Speak 'n Math a lot. I've seen some cartridges that are so dirty that they should have been in the desert!

That's sad. My mom didn't throw out any of my stuff and she let me keep whatever I wanted.

Hey Weird Paul, there is also a big E.T. DVD Box Set which has a certificate of authenticity, a film cell, and a hardcover book about the making of the movie. It contains an expanded 4 disc set with both versions of the movie and more features than the 2 disc set. The fourth disc is a copy of the movie's soundtrack on CD. You should definitely add that set to your E.T. collection.

Trust me, If you do get it you won't be disappointed. I own that box set and it's one of the best DVDs in my collection. I also own the 2 Disc set as well. I got it back when it first came out in 2002 as a birthday present.
