  • An activist group announced in March that it would physically blockade the power plant that buys coal products from Senator Joe Manchin's family company. Manchin holds a crucial vote in the split Senate, and critics say he's used it to tank climate legislation.

      Coal is booming right now check the coal stocks they have went up some over %200 since last year check Peabody energy, and Cliffs, Alpha natural resources. But i live in WV and we love Joe Manchin he saves our jobs we depend on and if coal is dyeing why have i got 3 raises this year and im up to $39 a hour now as a roof bolter? How much you make, it may be more than me but i say most people in America don't and i get free insurance and Quartey Bonuses which my last 2 where $3,000 and $2,100 thats on top of my 7500 a month bring home after taxes. Also i have a 401K plan where my owner puts his own money which is %6 of each of my checks he puts in to my 401K so if i make $4,000 that payday he puts $240 in my retirement ontop of what i out each payday! So yeah do you see now why us coal miners don't want coal to go away or Joe!! Hey by the way if you like this check out how much Nancy Pelosi net worth between her and her husbands corrupt business they are worth over $100 MILLION DOLLARS!! they have helped there self to stock offerings that they knew was going to make them a killing before us regular people could even buy the stock they had options from all different companies and when it opened on the market they made millions off each stock im serious and Nancy used legislation to help them stock not lose money but gain money, now her herself didnt own the stock her husband did and she did what she had to in congress to help it gain and not lose i promise you Now joe may have a little half million a year trust he aint worth but around 5 million!! that's nowhere near the corrupt nancy@@@@!!! Also her husbands office building is near some train system in San Fransico that had a bill passed where businesses near this new train line recieved tons of money and guess what he was within the two blocks radios to receive the money Nancy's bill in congress did that for them how nice of her to help herself with our tax money!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so check yourself first!!!

Riddle me how that's more environmentally friendly? In Japan, which isn't a large land mass, they laid pipelines for hydrogen, so it makes sense for their country. Excellent piece, Vice. Should have been longer. It showed multiple perspectives; however, it wasn't educational enough on the profits seen by him and his family, the economics of that county excluding his company, the environmental impact of his product, and the alternatives that are not considered out of the convenience of Manchin's protection over his interest alone.

    • @Tygrus758
      @Tygrus758 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sensor The Union Soldier I think they need more than an energy source if that is literally the only source of economic value to them. The county should be more diversified, or they will always be beholden to tyrannical monopolies that would extort and poison them. Maybe, that is why Manchin is actually doing a poor job for WV and the county he profits off of while acting as though he is keeping jobs in WV.
      Nuclear isn't the only option in windy and nearly vacant West Virginia. Solar and wind have plenty of places that could provide wind and solar energy to supplement to losing coal waste power plant and eliminatingbit as a secondary fuel source. No coal burns cleanly, but deliberately burning it's waste products is plain stupid and doesn't help WV in the long run. Worse, it keeps standards in place that will kill people in the future. Jobs formed by killing people aren't jobs that should be defended, no they should be replaced rapidly. People should be educated about how they have been duped, extorted, poisoned, and held to the interests of the corrupt then they should be helped out of the vicious cycles created by those circumstances. Manchin will die eventually, so at least, we know he won't remain forever. He should be voted out well before that occurs if WV is educated enough before then. The pressure must be applied continuously to do just that.

      It is actually used in alot of products for other than power generation. Also the andesthite coal harvested in west virginia and pensylvania is a pure carbon and can have its emmisions captured and reused for plastics and other products.

    West VIrginia ranks where again? Joe is their former gov and now Senator (total of 20+ years). Voter: let's vote him in again! Capitalism is not the problem, the Republicans refuse to allow capitalism to work as it should by meddling and pushing corporate welfare instead of allowing market demand and supply dictate what gets made and how it is made. Gov't role should be to ensure external costs and benefits are integrated into the profit maximizing level of productions, and not exploit labor to inhuman levels.

    I want to say Thank You, Vice *News and Staff/Crew.
    Your work represents and defines the term, “The News” as well as it does the meaning of the word, *News. Both of these imply and require Truth, that is verifiable fact based and *informative to be considered as such. The “Press,” as in how it was understood by all when the Author’s and Creators of our Constitution had the forethought to protect and Preserve the “Freedom of the Press.” This Right of Law goes to the very core of what is required in order to have a true Democracy. The intent is to act as a Separate and Independent “Check and Balance,” to our Government as a Service to the People, in the name of Freedom.
    It requires Commitment, Empathy and Honor but, above all it demands Integrity.
    I Applaud and Commend You for All Your Efforts in Showing
    Us All what *The News Looks Like, Again.
