Dad told me patrol runs were at night, if they saw something ashore, they'd head straight at it, full speed, then pull up to a 45 degree angle and fire at will. Sleeping on it was like sleeping on a cement mixer, he lost 60 pounds, hated powdered eggs and loved spam all his life.
The officer at 3:46 looks like Medal of Honor recipient John D. Bulkeley, who as a LT and commander of MTB Squadron 3 in the Philippines from 1941-42 had rescued MacArthur from Corregidor and took him 600 miles to Mindanao for his eventual escape to Australia.
There’s a Packard PT Boat engine on display at the Packard Museum in Dayton, Ohio. Considering the deck hatch they’re lifting the engines out of, I wonder if the engines are moved around on some kind of tracked trolly in the engine room? I can’t imagine men trying to wiggle those heavy engines into position.
My father John Havran,GM3C, was there,PT 171 , those are definitely Packer marine in line motors!
Great song selection. Ella Fitzgerald.
