PT Boat Training Film
An 8-minute, U.S. government produced training film promoting the Motor Torpedo Boat service. The actual title is “The PT Boat, Their Place in the Navy”. It features Lieutenant Commander John D. Bulkeley addressing a new group of recruits at the Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Training Center, Melville, Rhode Island. The video continues by narration depicting many typical scene where recruits are trained at skills for their MOS for the PT boat service. The boats used in the film include later models of Elco 77-foot and early Higgins 78-foot boats.

“GAINT KILLERS” - The Story of the Elco PT Boats This video takes viewers through the manufacturing process of typical Elco 80-foot Motor Torpedo Boats. Elco had previously designed and built 70 and 77-foot boats based predominately on the British design of Hubert Scott-Payne’s (British Power Boat Company) PV70. With a limited production of the earlier boats, and because of Navy requirements, E...

A Warner Brothers produced Hollywood Gung-Ho WWII film of the U.S. Navy Motor Torpedo Boat Service (PT). The short film follows a new officer recruit, Bob Palmer, through the Navy’s Melville, Rhode Island, Motor Torpedo Boat Training Center, and culminating in his nearly single hand win over the Japanese Navy. Well, maybe this is a little over dramatization on my part, but clearly evident while...

PT Boat Video by ELCO during World War II. Elco (The Elco Naval Division) Bayonne, New Jersey, produced the largest number of PT boats for the US Navy during WWII. Other manufacturers were Higgins in New Orleans and Huckins in Jacksonville, Florida. The most produced Elco PT was the 80-foot boat, the same type, PT 109, lost by John F. Kennedy during WWII.

Awesome video always been a fan of the PT boats. Most of the PT crews are sadly at the end of they're lives as are those craftsman & craftswomen who built those mighty boats. They are all Patriots.

Some look with despair to the current state of the country, I know what you’re seeing. Previous foes have looked at the country and seen decadence and softness, it was their mistake. I have no fear that when the time calls for it, people will come together, pull together, and once again, get the job done.

It’s hard to believe that the boat was in that bad of shape. It was launched in July 1942 and did not arrive in the South Pacific until late 1942. It was Sunk in August of 1943. So 7 to 9 months old basically. And it was sunk 13 months after first being launched from the ship builders.

The PT boat Squadron Kennedy was with , sent out multiple boats on patrol in the sane area at once. There are many other statements from others, who were on Patrol from that Squadron the night Kennedy's PT boat was ran over by a Japanese warship. One such statement was that: the nights had been warm and humid. Which induced sleep on many of the PT boats crews. He surmised, that is what happened to Kennedy's crew. They were asleep, and that is how they were unaware of. the approach of a warship, at night on a foggy night. I personally witnessed in the 80's the entire bridge watch, All completely asleep, on a hot humid Day in very calm waters in the Arabian Gulf of a US Destroyer.

As soon as the War was over, the rights Women had were quickly taken away and promptly sent back to the Kitchen to be Man's servant again. They built and tested Bombers. They should have had their own Women's Air Force. Blacks were not included either. Not such a great America. Only for the White Guy who takes all the credit. BS

I do not know if the business/corporation is still in operation but roughly 15 or so years back I read about a business that obtained the blueprints for the various PT boats used in WWII and they built duplicates -- minus the arms of course. Not inexpensive 'toys,' but I can hardly think of one that would be more cool to own. If I remember correctly the business/corporation is/was located in either Louisiana or Mississippi .. but I could be wrong about that.
