- Many people deal with a very loud Recurve style bow, in this video I'll give you 7 ways to quiet down your recurve style bow. Some of these fixes are hard to find if you don't know what to look for, I give you my seven go to ways in making my recurve style bow quieter.

Quieting my bow this weekend, starting with brace height, thanks for the great info.
I’ll use the vibration analysis tool on the Steady-Aim to get quantitative.
I have a bow was loud and the people at the club said it was fine but after watching this video I found out my problem a limb bolt was loose thanks for video

Update for barebow: since 2022 you are allowed to use dampers on your riser

Hi, might be covered by the last point "Setup", but too light arrows also make a bow loud.
My samick sage is a loud bow, so this is very helpful, and ill certainly use your link to get limb savers. What about the fluffy things on the string, dont they lower the sound to, because was thinking on getting both, the Samick sage is notorious for being a loud bow.

I’ve heard that you can put cotton or felt between the risers & the bow limbs to help soften the noise also .

Hi Jake. Thanks for the video. Speaking of bowstrings from reputable manufacturers, which one would you recommend? And how much should good bowstring cost? I think good bowstring can't be cheap as making one is quite laborious.
Not Jake but you can't go wrong with 60x for price or quality.

a little blob of non-hardening modeling clay works for chatter.....Can you cover the differences in limb materials?
Jake when measuring brace hight from the the limb manufacturer sugested setting, is it from string to grip or string to plunger / rest ?
To the centreline of the plunger. It's in Jake's video 'set brace height like a pro', I'm pretty sure.
Some do it one way, some do it the other. Most quality risers have the throat of the grip directly below the plunger so it shouldn't make much difference.
The important thing is to always measure it the same way so you can replicate your setup.

I have observed that a too tight nock on the string can also produce a noise in the limbs difficult to identify....
yeah i noticed this, i changed my string to more strands which made my nocks to tight, this made the bow very loud and rattlely sounding, plus made the bow want to launch out of my hand as the arrow wanted to drag the bow with it. changed the nocks, and it went back to nice quiet and stable.
Thx for that i just now realized whats going on with my new set up the new string is just a hair tighter and the knocks hold on.

Thanks Jake. Have you ever setup an ILF riser to hunt with? Looking at aesthetics and want to build an ILF riser, like a Gillo GT, to hunt with. Any suggestions???

Hi Jake. does a limbsaver affect the speed (or worse: the torque) of the limbs? Because obviously you are adding weight on something you want to be as fast and light as possible?

Yes, which is why they are placed low on the limbs where there isn't much movement to be dampened (but plenty of vibration).

Any recommendation on how many inches up from the riser?
Last week, my bow got noisy. Worried the bejazuss outta me - thought something was loose - checked it out, tightened stuff, took stuff off: made no difference.
Ran through brace heights from max to min: no difference. Every shot still sounded like I was shooting a .22 rifle.
So I thought I might've broken something. Couldn't find any sign of that - then I remembered this video.
I came back here to learn about limb dampers - instead I learned about a loose strand in my string.
New string - problem solved - who knew - thanks Jake 👍👍👍

Does it matter wether my bow is loud or not if it's correctly tuned?
No, but a tuned bow is universally regarded as a quieter bow. So if it doesn't bother you, don't bother with the silencers, but make sure the bolts are tight, brace height tuned, correct arrow weight (and spine), right string etc...
@@SaneAsylum arrow weight? like point weight? does it matter what point weight u use if it's tuned properly especially for 70m. im thinking about buying new set of arrows for outdoor summer season but what would be ideal point weight there? heavier so it's more stable (maybe??) or lighter for faster flight?
@@miemi2602 Total arrow weight. Too light of an arrow is somewhat like a dry fire. Loud and injurious to the equipment. Most manufacturers have recommendations.
@@miemi2602 Point weight has a big influence on the behaviour of the arrow, in the same way as the spine.
I noticed you didn't mention anything about string silencers like cat whiskers. What's your take on that ?
hmm I guess bowstring silencers only muffs out the sound on "bad tuned" bows. So that means it's not necessary to use silencers if you have a good tuned bow thus it will be quiet
@@mocknugget Nah, they quiet well-tuned bows as well, just slow them down quite a bit - I mean, Jake is speaking about how the cross-section of a string can affect performance, now imagine dragging two pom-poms through the air - both the additional mass of them as well as the drag.
Still, they quiet the bow by a bit and they're important to many trad shooters, especially hunters.
But what if you want it to be louder...?

18-20 strings!!!! holy s...
here in germany ppl use 10-16 mostly 12-14 strand strings. some even go down to 8!
less strings faster arrow.
a single strand holds up to 50 pounds. so from the strength perspective nothing above 2 strands is needed.
tbh i never held a arrow in my hand where the nock could even fit on a 20 strand string
No problem fitting a Beiter #1 nock onto an 18 strand 8125G string, you just need the correct (thin) size of serving. I'm sure it can be done with 20 strands too
Depends on material. I've had no issue fitting standard easton g nocks or beiter pin nocks on a 20 strand string (BCY 8125 with Halo 0.17 serving).
It depends on your material. Jake uses BCY fastflight style. I use Angel Majesty, and I think the strands are slightly thicker than BCY (I have some BCY652 waiting to test, so I will see). B55 dacron is even thicker, so you need far fewer strands.
As someone else mentioned, the serving size also affects how the nocks fit.

How to shush your bow
I like a loud bow. It helps make the opponent get intimidated by my bow setup.
But I see loud recurve archer as a novice or careless. I always tune my bow to be smooth pull, snappy shot and quiet.
@@blizzbee Jokes aside I do have my bow setup to be loud as it gives me better feedback if I were to make a bad shot. Personally I do like it but for most people it isn't their cup of tea.

In the end, the better result on target and the consistency of it is the way to go. Keep shooting.
If I was shooting against you I'd think your bow wasn't set up right if it was loud. Far from being intimidated it would give me confidence.

My bow sounds very arsh and rattling since I mounted the AAE adjuatable clicker. I do not regret it tho, because it’s helping me a lot, actually!!! Nevertheless it is very very noisey 🥲
