    I've had a sidecar for 34 years, have it fitted most of the time. It uses a Mini car tyre, and I've had no problems with it. I have used road touring tyres most of the time on the motorbike, I find when the chair is in the air I have good control with the rounded tyre, but the front end locks up too easily and tracks sideways when locked up. I have a couple of flat profile classic tyres, that I used for a while and need to refit when the current tyres wear out. I found these track much better on the road, corner better under load and brake better. They have a very slight curve to the surface, but are generally square under load, and are horrible to ride on without the sidecar.

      Appreciate your input on this subject buddy. 34 yrs experience counts for a lot.

    I have had chairs for over 30 years my wLA had normal bike tyres & they worked fine but on my013 street bob I have a car tyre on my chair with a 13inch star mag wheel on my bike I run a bike tyre on the front but on the rear I have a car tyre it’s the same size as the orignal tyre it’s a 165 / 17inch it runs great I’ve had it up to 170 kph & it handles like a dream people are shocked how well it handles. As for psi I put 40 psi all round .

    Thanks mate, that was really useful 🙂 I've just fitted an Inder Sidecar to my Royal Enfield Bullet 500 and I'm loving it, and this video was very helpful and I loved the Aunty Jack bits, nice one 👍

    A flat sidecar tyre makes the outfit track better on a cambered road with a small amount of toe in. Set up correctly you should be able to take your hands off the bars and the outfit track straight depending on camber.

    • @motorcyclecafe
      @motorcyclecafe  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is correct, you should be able to take your hands off the bars on a correctly setup outfit.

    That motorcycle sidecar was used in the original mad Max movie 🎥 goose gave them a get-out-of-jail-free card.

    During highway speeds you don't move your front wheel much so a flat tread is best. During slow speed the throttle and brakes do most of the steering. When I fitted Avon sidecar flat tread tyres the highway stability was much better.

    • @motorcyclecafe
      @motorcyclecafe  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree but turn your front wheel onto full lock and check out how much tread is on the tarmac. Unless the front tire is slightly rounded you will always be fighting it on sharp bends to get the outfit to turn. All outfits are different, this video is a guide not a rock solid rule.

    YOU HAVE A NEW FOLLOWER! JUST FOUND YA! I FOLLOW ANOTHER GUY FROM DOWN UNDER. YOUR “TRAILER” video popped up.
    Hopefully,I’ll get another bike soon. I’ll need trailer and possible side car. Tour 49 States and fish each state! If you use trailer and know (something) I would like to chat. Best of days Sir!

    • @motorcyclecafe
      @motorcyclecafe  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is about four videos on the channel regarding trailers. Correctly setup they are quite safe. Most questions you have would be answered in those videos. If you have a sidecar that can have racks etc fitted I doubt you would need a trailer.

    • @smartassist9700
      @smartassist9700 ปีที่แล้ว

      If Just either a side car or trailer would suffice, I wonder which one is better? I have always heard that side cars pull you into that right direction pretty much always. (Again, only what I heard.). Either one I personally would maintain a slower safer speed. I am not a speed demon. I feel old class to enjoy journey however long it takes over destination.
      In fishing, I will be bringing along a fishing kayak, rods reels that are 1 piece and 2 piece. Kayak, I found a quality /sturdy inflatable I am considering for this trip. Other wise, I will have huge challenge with the reg fishing kayak size. Lol. I bring trolling motor and battery as I am disabled and can paddle some, but not long distances.
      Another is I like light bikes. I figured 650 to 750cc enfield or traditional bike would be sufficient. Do I need larger?

      @@smartassist9700 that is an interesting question 'Which is better?' and one which may well make for an interesting video. As someone who has done both (and this is just my personal opinion) I would say a Sidecar is a better (safer) option however Sidecars take a fair amount of upper body input (not sure what type of disability you have) they also take a lot of getting used to. First ride on one you would think "What the hell have I done" but the different skills needed do come! I have a Ural (there is a video on them on the channel) and now I'm older I love it so much. Even though it's probably the worst motorcycle I have owned it is the best (doesn't make sense I know) it's just 'Old School'.

      I was promoted in job yrs ago to ASIA Pacificthey called it. Philippines office, traveled all countries including India. I saw so many different types of custom sidecars to haul different things. Lol. 1st concern is length of fishing canoe if I don’t get inflatable one.
      Speaking of: Theyy sell new Honda 750s like the first ones with long seat and merges with gas tank. (70s/80s).
      I saw two tree trunks 11 feet long, 36 inches (across) ! He had two wood pieces they put on water Buffalo in rice fields holding both logs balancing, taking to-saw mill, 40 miles away!
      Lol. Also counted 17 on a single covered trike they use as taxi. I took 11 pictures From all angles, then counted them in picture. If I could buy 5 of the Honda 750s. Break them down/ship here I could sell them for a huge price!
      I’m building there once USA money goes gold backed this year. I’ll go back and forth.
      I cannot hold up heavy bike. I saw Geico insurance commercial yrs ago. Looked like Honda same style but probably bigger CC. Side car pulling small camper. I loved it!
      They are considered work bikes. Foreigners cannot own business unless Filipino owns 51% of it. (Smart, USA should do that!).
      I sold 2 bikes. I kept Aprilia SportCity 250 fuel injected. It goes 80mph, 70mpg, 333 lbs, weight low /step through. I can balance with pinkies at red light. I sometimes bike with 10 to 200 from Atlanta in North GA mountains. Now I am near Augusta. About 200miles from Atlanta. I drive it everywhere here. I need new gas gauge. Mine quit registering. Stuck on full. I had 10k service at 6k miles. I take excellent care of it. 2008 model. Less than 200 sold in USA. Dualfront disc, single back. Fast take off leaves crotch rockets at red light for short distance. Lol. They call me Mosquito. I’ll finish your videos. I need 30” seat at highest. Lol. We will see later on.
      Many disabilities, but I can ride safely! Sorry for over chat.. I love motorcycles.

    Because of all the stupid movies with the sidecar coming off the motorcycle I have problems convincing girls to get into the motorcycle because they think the chair is going to go flying off on its own and I tell them that happens only in the movies.

    I recently bought a Velorex sidecar to put on my 1972 Honda CB350. I am having a hard time figuring what the best tires to put on it would be based on the availability of sidecar specific tires in the sizes I need. The sidecar has a Mitas 16" on it. My rim sizes are 19" front and 18" rear. It seems Avon, Heidenau, and Mitas do not make a sidecar rear tire in 18" with the width I need and Duro hf308 18" are out of stock everywhere. Looks like my ONLY option for a sidecar specific rear will be the Metzler K Block.
    Any advice on what to run on the 19" front rim with the K block on the rear? Also, do you have any advice on "upsizing" the width of the tire say from a 3.00 to a 3.50 on the same rim?

    • @motorcyclecafe
      @motorcyclecafe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is the issue fitting sidecars to motorcycles because the wheels are all different sizes it makes it hard to find matching tyres. I'm fairly sure Heidenau and Duro make 18" tyres Duro's are not hard to get where I am. Mitas make a good 19" for the front. Theres a video on the channel regarding motorcycle tyres, changing width is usually not recommended but that small change should be fine. Watch that video! Thanks for watching buddy!
