You and Dave are totally awesome. Thanks for letting the rest of the world into your lives. Have a very Merry Christmas and God bless you. Kurt in Idaho
I too, am happy to see Daisy. I love her and have missed her. Moose too! Any timeline on when you’re beginning on your log cabin build? I’ve been pretty excited about it ever since you chopped down this trees and stripped their bark!
I googled: "Why is there a lack of winter sun in Michigan." AI response was that cold air moves over the warmer lakes (the Great Lakes,) drawing large amounts of moisture from said lakes, and forms a cloud cover in the Troposphere over most of Michigan for most of the wintertime. I learn something new every day watching these way cool vids , thanks! P.s. That Jackery solar power generator is boss! Oh, glad to see Maisie is doing well. Cool bens.
Brooke it was wonderful seeing dear Daisy-Maisey again! I love me your ittle Moose but Daisy will always have a sweet spot in my heart. The woodshed was cute, simple and practical. As always I enjoy all your videos.
For the panels, they need full sun and not partial sun. I have two jackerys. A small portable one that I purchased with the solar panels years ago. I love it for short camping trips to power a fan and lights and charge up my phone and iPad. It has plenty of juice for several days off grid. Recently I got the jackery 1000 and it is great. Can power a lot more with it, esp if we have a power outage. Can run my dash appliances and a small heater. Even fine for my induction cooker on low power. They power up fast when plugged into an electrical outlet so I keep them charged up. But the solar panels cannot have even a shadow on them or they don’t charge at all. They must have full sun. But that is true of most solar panels.
I know the solution to your solar woes... Your panels were backward, the side with the glass and the lines should be facing the sun and not the solid back panels. We had similar struggles with getting ours to charge as well. I LOVE the concept of a large battery like that, and I would love to see how long the battery cells last. We have had to replace our every three years. I think that's a reasonable period, but others assumed they would never need to be replaced. We are saving up to buy some land, so this is great content. We have watched all of your videos and have a notification when you drop one! Please keep making more!
Jackery "Solar" generators are awesome, and are my primary choice for emergency backup and remote location power. I started out with an Explorer 500 which sees daily use, recharging from roof solar panels, and being used to power smaller power banks, flashlights, radios, and multiple other 12 volt and USB items. For more serious use, I opted for an Explorer 1500, and it works great in "the back 40" when I need to recharge tools or use A/C. Then I decided I needed more power and longer life with more charge cycles, and bought an Explorer 2000v2, which I love! I think you chose wisely, Brooke! Nice yurt, too!! ❤
Wife and I have and use Jackery, three different sized batteries. It’s not unusual for our power to go off, way out in the country, where we live. We haven’t used our solar panels yet…as they are slow to charge. Love your yurt…and your multiple other cabins too, beautiful property. Thank you for sharing your buildings…from an old fan, retired in the foothills of the Smokies.
I can Give the Thumbs Up to Jackery as well and Have tested their solar panels when good sunshine was available and they produce very good numbers compared to others on the market, just FYI and anyone who is interested. Michigan Winter and Sunshine are the true definition to an Oxymoron. Best wishes Brooke
Last winter we went 21 days in a row without sunshine in Gaylord, Michigan. I cannot imagine having to rely on solar power up north. *There wasn't a comment box for me. I can only reply. Strange.😮😢
Looks great, thanks for the review. It looked like the solar plugs next to the jackery needed to be plugged into the holes. Would love a follow-up video if you get the solar working
I live in a van. Obhave a 2000 watt bluetti. I ise 2 - 200 watt Acopower panels on top. They do fantastic. Soon as I find some land i will need to do as you are doing so thank you so much for that review
Bluetti seems to be ok, but some reviews aren't as good as Jackery. Maybe it's because Bluetti is made in China and Jackery is made in USA. I'll pay extra for the USA quality.
We've been a Jackery family for years. We love them!!! But you're right about the sun here in Michigan. It showed up yesterday at 4pm. I stuck my face out and soaked it in and then night came. Uggg
I like it- I’ll let my husband watch your video and then we’ll decide for our Up North cabin use-I’ll gladly do a video on TH-cam to review a Jackery - Exciting, Brooke! I’m happy for you! We cannot wait to journey back Up North to our cabin in the woods 🌲 All the best to you and your family-wishing y’all a blessed Christmas and hoping all is well with your dear Momma ***thanks for the honest review
@@TakeTheRideit should work better in locations that get plenty of sun. My house faces due south and we have deciduous trees that will help with winter charging.
Pretty sure you just nailed a solid sponsor for your channel if you want it, that was a great review! You were completely honest on both sides of the fence, I have the smallest Jackery that I use for primitive car camping, the solar panels do a good job when you have sunlight. Do you mind sharing what string lights you use; I could never find an energy-efficient option. As usual, you are such an inspiration!
Hi Brooke . I love ❤ your Yurt. It is very nice. It was so good to see Maisy ❤ and the little wolf 😊 I hope you can get the solar to work with the jackery it was very nice also.
We use our gas generator to charge up our Jackery when there is not enough solar… it doesn’t take long and the Jackery then saves us fuel cost because we don’t have to run the gas generator all night👍
Jackery is a good product. I have the Jackery 1000. The last time I used it was two years ago. I checked it a few weeks back when the storms were coming, and it held its charge at 100%. Good to see Da Wolf and Moose.
Jeepsy Gene here. I just bought a Bluetti AC200L. I love it, but no sun. I just ordered Champion generator to power up my Bluetti. There's always a solution for every problem. This is it for now.
I have an Anker 2000, similar to your set up. It charges great in the summer, no problem. Our cabin is about 10 miles out of Copper Harbor in the UP. I absolutely love your yurt!!
I appreciate this honest review as I have been wondering about a Jackery. Anyway, I have an Anker solar battery similar to Jackery, I use our gas generator to charge it back up when their is no sun. It really only takes about 30 minute. I was surprised that Jackery took 2 hours to recharge. Again, thank you. I'm greatly inspired by your channel. I bought all the tools, now just need to start using them 👍👍👍
What wattage is the Anker rated at? It may be the difference. Also, Anker products are fairly well made for Chinese products. I'll take my chances with the Jackery that's made in the US.
We quit our careers to travel the country this year, ended up in Maine and are thinking about it homesteading here…we have been looking at yurts! I’m currently working the pool at camp here. It’s been an incredible year! One day I hope to live a life like you :) so inspiring
I like the fact that it has the 30 amp output that you can plug right into a 30 amp service on a small cabin or an RV. And between your solar panels in a small back up inverter generator, it’s really all anybody would ever need in an area that gets a lot of cloud cover like Michigan. I know I grew up in the UP and I have a cabin on some acreage up there, and sometimes the sun just doesn’t exist lol. Thanks for the info.
Our jackery has been very reliable. The first one was stolen so I spray painted the second one to look terrible lol. But with low light I recommend the new 200 watt bifacial monocrystalline panels. They charge in shade and rain
Here's a thought for Jackery, et al.: devise accessories that will allow your units to store power from sources other than solar panels and the power grid. This would be very helpful for Upper Peninsulators, Forks, Wash-ers, Arctic Circlers, etc. I note that Bio-Lite makes large versions of their wood (or other bio-fuel) stoves that also generate electricity. Kris Harbour, a TH-camr and homesteader in Wales, where solar power is not a year-round energy source sufficient to supply his house and machine shop needs uses a home-made windmill, and a hydroelectric plant of his own manufacture to supply his needs. (He also designs hydro plants for others.)
They were plugged in correctly the first time shown... In the second attempt though, yes it were just the adaptrers that were plugged in. Not sure if the panels were facing correctly.
Thanks so much for your Jackery review. I've been looking to get one for several years now. I want to use it for off grid camping and a backup power source for outages. You mentioned the ease of use and quality. That's the two things I've been seeing as well. I also like that it's made in the US. I hope you're able to get the solar panels to work. I live in a more southern region of the US and have a good location to test out the solar panels. I think you've sold me on Jackery, I just need to decide which size works best for my needs. The yurt looks great.
You can’t charge on late winter days full of shadows. The fact that it charges 3,000 watts in two hours is crazy though. Pretty impressive and proves that it will charge well with solar when you have real sun. When I don’t have sun, I charge mine in my car that I leave idling, and that works well when I don’t have a generator.
That looks like a great system for an off grid house! How many days do you think it would last if you were not running power tools? You had the right angle adapters plugged in, but not the actual charging cables, which is probably why your panels were not charging.
Like many others on TH-cam, it's very easy to recommend or give a good review on something when you are given it for free. Specially something that sells for $2500 and up. May be on sale but still quite expensive.
It’s not easy to recommend something- that’s why I never do it. People always think there’s an ulterior motive but really it’s just a share of useful information of something I would genuinely buy or use. Take it or leave it.

3000 watts is fine for how much it can deliver at one time ... but how much power can it store ... that is rated by watt-hours.
I wonder how this would work for a home, especially to keep the frig powered up when the power goes out. Or to keep your furnace going.
I plugged it into our large home fridge for 4 hours- ran like a champ!
There is also a set up, one could DIY why with exercise bicycle to generate electricity, and transferred into the generator.
Pretty cool, but still way out of my price point. Thx for the review.
