Chad is the master of silence! He really knows how to bring power and excitement to his solos, with his keen since of when to put some air around phrases.
Chad Wackerman, without question, is one of the best to have ever sat behind a drum kit. Excellence, creativity, syncopation, timing, phrasing, space, feeling, groove, polyrhythmic complexity, technique . . . the whole package . . .
Chad did a master class for my high school when I was a kid and it was like a religious experience! So lucky to se the him as a young man and what an influential person!
As a fellow drummer, Much respect! I was in the service in the early 80's, First time I heard about you, was when I saw you on the cover of Modern Drummer... Saw Frank in 78 But; with Bozzio...Frank's albums, post you're joining are some of my favorites. Love Man From Utopia! Bozzio's "the drummers of FZ" was the first time I heard you speak...Your story about going to Franks house and Steve Vai opening the door was hilarious...Salute to you! Good health and happiness to you and yours.
Remember the song circles erratica from Colin hay you played on? I absolutely love that song and your press rolls for the drum intro and outro. Not too many pop songs back then had that type of drumming on it.
I do remember recording that tune in London with Colin Hay and Jeremy Alsop. I wrote out that cadence type of snare part then recorded 4 or 5 overdubs. of the same part. For each overdub I moved the snare further away from the mic, so it sounded a bit more like a few snare drummers playing!
@@chadwackerman3697 thank you so much for replying! Huge fan of your drumming! I love all your stuff with Zappa etc and watch it a lot here on YT! I love your phrasing too. My favorite song is “TELL ME!” ( the harmonic dissonant chords are catchy af! ) You’re not just shredding all over the place so to speak you leave a lot of space in between. I was at the baked potato for the Zappa band ( front row!) two years ago and I missed you for that run. Hope to see you next month for this years run if I can make it out there from Chicago……✈️
