Like this if you are Still watching in 2024. This is by far my most watched video on TH-cam. I watch it several times a month. Lost my mom to Alzheimer’s 6 years ago (she was only 68) and this song is exactly how I felt about her whole disease.
Love this video .I lost my mother 5 years ago and my father 20 years ago and I find myself grasping at strings trying to figure out my place in this world. I think this is God's way of preparing us to be the next generation to go to him. Bless you
I love this performance and watch it regularly. And did you hear at the end when he stands up he says 'Good to be back', almost as if he is about to resume a world tour. I love it
This song is about loving people so much and the crying and tears when people and yourself try so hard and still the goal is out of reach. It’s about human nature and loss and love and heartbreak. There is no thumbs down for this song if you ever had a broken heart.
If you haven't seen the movie, He is singing this after the death of a friend. This song was supposed to be a duet with the guy. He tributed the song to Bob... Bob's family was in the audience. He watched this song a lot for the week after Bob's death until this performance. Fred, here, and Bob are/were former members who had to leave due to medical reasons. Then a few days before this another (active) choir member passed on, Joe. So this song was very emotional for the choir, and those of us who saw the movie... and those in the audience who understood.... RIP Bob and Joe.
I’m often coming back to this throughout the year. The story of why he is singing this solo is humbling. How he got through it is a feat in itself. The young at heart documentary should be a must watch for anyone at any age. This touches your soul.
+Brian Knittle My heart is with you. I show the movie every year to about 60 college students. Tears us all up each time. But when it is personal.... Hard to imagine. Again, my heart is with you.
what an amazing performance... indeed.. he is not very far away from you, in your mind, in your songs, in your dreams, thoughts and heart. it was an indescriptible pleasure to have found this song on youtube. take care Brian
This was the first version of this song I heard. It still makes me cry.😢 Knowing now, that all these singers will no longer be with us. What an amazing legacy ❤
I first listened to this song about a month after my dad died. This was the song that broke me and it will forever be the song that reminds me of my dad. Thank you. ❤
I saw this film about 11 years ago… And lately life has been pretty shitty… And I decided to watch this…. And my heart just melted. To all the folks on the documentary you are inspiration.
This documentary should be shown in every high school in the country. The interviews of the choir members are eye opening and will shed a lot of stereotypes about older people pretty damn fast. I feel sorry for anyone who has never loved someone where losing him/her made little or no impact on them. If you don't love this film, I know which camp you're in. 💔 🥀
After discovering this cover, I cry every time. Then I watched the documentary... Can't keep it together after the poignancy of what this meant to them. Then, shortly after... My mom, my only parent, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was 62 and just retired. The doctors gave her 6 months to live and she declined after just 2 months. The whole time I couldn't help but want to "fix" her. To "fix" it... Three years later and I can't help but cry when I hear this version. This is what it means to be HUMAN and fallible. This should be taught in high schools because one cannot walk away from the film young at heart" and not be deeply touched.

There are moments you see in this old mans eyes and can tell he has been through a point (s) in his life where he has experienced the emotion and feeling of this song. Old eyes describe a lot. Great cover.
This never stops being amazing. I'm crying right now. Just... please fix me. Rest in peace, Fred. You may not know it, but you did indeed fix a lot of people with this one song. Just one song. One simple song. It's such a small thing. So small. But the impact is enormous. Too big for me to handle. Man, this kicks ass.
You said it well. I can never hear this song without remembering Fred and Bob and the choir members. Just watching them in the documentary, you get to know them. Wonderful and soulful.
As I meditate on Fred's heartfelt performance, my thoughts are fixed on my dear brother-in-law, John, who's waging a valiant battle in ICU against COVID19. How I wish I could fix you.
@@cg-ny9078 Hey Carmen! Miracles do happen! It was quite a struggle, but over time John has conquered C19 and continues to improve long-term. yes... it was supposed to be like that... this makes it even more intense when you know that... but now they both are reunited in heaven... for sure :-)
This song has never been sung more perfectly imo. He had me crying on the first line. I have never felt this song more deeply. God bless you sir, and thank you for sharing. Sharing your sorrow you turned it into a Moment of Grace for me.
I watched this choir documentary a few years ago thanks to my husbands colleague in the USA, how I cried then, laughed with them, this gentleman’s voice was perfect for the song, the emotion in his voice and to know he had oxygen on at the same time, to then learn he passed away not long after I bawled and today he still brings. Tear to my eyes as did the other members of the choir who thanks to the conductor produced a beautiful sound. Bless you all
I've been so lucky to have had family involved in this chorus since it's inception and have had the joy and privilege of following it. It may be the most wonderful, extraordinary and brilliant organization ever formed and sustained in civilization. The story behind this performance is heart wrenching, and earth shattering to the Young@Heart Chorus community as well as the Town of Northampton, where this takes place. When I watch it, I become transformed and transfixed It may just be the greatest performance, greatest rendition, greatest arrangement and greatest community connection of/with one of the greatest songs ever written! What I see in this is almost other-worldly . . .certainly spiritual, in that everyone in that space is vibrating on the same frequency of shared love and shared loss. . . and the depth of caring, along with darkness of despair serenades and surrounds our hearts.
This country does not respect elders. This documentary shines a light on them. You are lucky to live past 60. Life is precious. Can this video be more moving??? Omg
I am grateful to say that I am a born again Christian and have been since I was 19.......like depicted in this video people may be senior aged crippled handicapped having special needs etc but God’s never crippled and the true living God is the omnipotent God of the impossible!!!!! if someone even in their latest senior years can still sing that means God is still using them is not done with them and he can use anyone anywhere anytime!!!!! praise God that despite anyone’s disabilities or weakness God don’t care and he’s no respecter of persons! he can bless anyone anywhere anytime! I am so thankful for the folks in this video and despite their disabilities God has still given them the strength to raise a family and it’s by no accident that they’re here on this earth with us! may we never take for granted such people!!!!! to God Be All The Glory!!!!! Great Things He Hath Done!!!!!! and all hail king Jesus!!!!! the king of kings and the lord of lords!!!!! however folks if you don’t know Christ as your savior then it burdens my soul to think that you are headed for a terrible place called Hell where the Bible says the fire is never quenched and the worm dies not! Folks you are not promised tomorrow! If you want to know how to be saved from this horrible reality then please by all means don’t hesitate to comment right back so I can lead you to the savior! 2 Corinthians 6:2 clearly states “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation!” And Hebrews 3:15 clearly states, “Today if you hear his voice don’t harden your hearts! It is not me but the Holy Spirit that I pray reveals to you the truth of his precious gospel......John 3:16 says for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes on him will not perish but have everlasting life! V 17 says then V 18 says whoever believes on the son is not condemned but whoever does not believe on the son is condemned already because he has not believed on the son whom God has sent! Also Acts 16:30-31 what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house I am not threatening anyone but just warning them what will happen if they reject this precious gift of eternal life! Christ died a horrible criminals death! He was beaten brutally mocked spit upon and endured countless hours of torture pain for all of our sins! Ppl go to hell because they reject that pardon for their sins! And Jesus is saying to them in Matthew 25:41 depart from me you cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! Hell was only prepared for Satan and his angels! It is not God who threatens anyone it is the craziness of rejecting the free pardon of salvation! It’s like if you’re in court you’ve committed a crime say you murdered someone! Now if you say to that Judge hey I know I’ve done a terrible thing of murdering that person but I hear you’re a good judge and so I know you’ll be fair to me...... the judge is going to reply well yes you’re right about one thing I am a good judge and because I’m a good judge I’m going to see to it that you’re punished and that justice is served! Well then all of a sudden someone you don’t even know comes forward and says you know what I know he’s committed the crime he’s committed and he deserves to go to jail but I really don’t want to see him go to prison so I’ll just go to prison for him so he can go free! So if you accepted that offer you’d be free to leave the courtroom but if you didn’t well you’d be crazy and go to prison yourself! Well that’s exactly how it was 2,000 years ago! He is God in human flesh and he came to this earth lived a perfect sinless life and even though he knew that we had sinned and because of our sins deserved to die miserably but he said no I don’t want to see them suffer so I will go and take their punishment for them! Even though he did absolutely nothing wrong still he chose to take the punishment for our sins so we can be set free from the power bondages and consequences of our disobedience to God! Romans 5:8 says For God commends his love toward us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us! 1 John 2:2 says he was made to be the propitiation for our sins! And not just for our sins but the sins of the whole world! 2 Corinthians 5:21 He who knew no sin became Sin for us that we would be made his righteousness! The truth is if you had to get to Heaven by your own effort then you cannot do it! Because Romans 3:10 says there is not one that does good! No Not One! Romans 3:23 says For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! Romans 6:23 says For the wages of sin is death! But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our lord! But the good news is Romans 10:9 If we confess with our mouth and believes in our hearts that Christ died for our sins then was raised from the dead we will be saved! V 10 For it’s with the heart we believe and it’s with the mouth confession is made unto salvation! God gave us 10 commandments to follow and we’ve broken every one of them! And because God is a good God he cannot allow our disobedience to him to go unpunished! Well then like I just mentioned above his son Jesus stepped forward and said no I don’t want to see them punished so I will take their punishment for them! And also like I said he died a terrible substitute criminal’s death for us on a cross so now all we have to do is accept that payment for our sins and we can escape the terrible wrath of God that is to fall on them who do not accept this atonement that was sacrificed for our sins! Praise the lord Romans 10:13 says Whoever calls on the name of the lord shall be saved! And 1 Peter 1:4 you’re an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you! Christ clearly said in John 14:6 I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the father but through me! Acts 4:12 clearly states that there is no other name given unto Heaven or earth by which we must be saved as there is salvation in no other! Jesus clearly states that there is clearly only one way to Salvation and it’s him that’s it! There is no other way! God Bless everyone who reads!
That was sweet :) But why are so many people hating on Coldplay, he wrote this song for his wife and if you don't have any thing nice to say don't say it.
I watched this documentary with my girlfriend in 2020.. for the first time.. we were so emotional.. she died in February 2023.. I wanted to try and fix her so bad.. I love you Lauren Lee Abplanalp
Need a good cry? I can't watch this without crying. You'd think "then don't watch it". I love it too much to abandon it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for sharing your voices! Angels CAN walk the earth!!
To know the backstory, his body that he was going to do the duet with passed away just a few weeks before this performance. And so he goes out there by himself with tears filling his eyes and tearing at his heart and memories of his pal, he sings this interview. It is one of the most moving things I've ever seen. Ever.
This is so touching and beautiful. The first time I watched the movie about this group my father had just come out of the hospital. I thought it was so special and the world needed to hear them and watch them sing. My father died about 3 years later. This particular song strikes a special cord with me. I grew up in Amherst Massachusetts and one of my sisters watched the movie with me and our mother. She said that she recognized this sweet man singing. It has always been a favorite for me. ❤
This is up there with Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt". To those that gave this a "thumbs down". Screw you. I hope that, someday, you find a heart. But NOT because you've, all of a sudden, had a loss.
I saw this film a few years ago on PBS, only a few years after my father had died. I was still lost in a world of grieving, and the sincerity of this performance brought me to tears. If you ever get to see the story connected to this performance of 'Fix You', it will become all the more poignant.
I was never a Cold Play fan but i saw this YEARS ago and it really moved me. a few days ago at work they played the Cold Play version and it just made me think of this, and it still wrecks me. on top of that my Father had to take his oxygen machine with him everywhere he went for about the last ten years of his life, any time i see someone with one it brings back thoughts of my Father. and just all the great old wise kind people life has taken away from us for all of human existence, it hurts to be the ones left behind
einfach großartig und überwältigend dieser Chor. Absolut sehenswerter Film mit fantastischer Musik und sehr interessanten alten Männern und Frauen und einen begeisternden Chorleiter. Weltklasse!!!!!!
My Mom and I saw this movie, "Young at Heart" and remember how powerful it was and still is...brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it! Now that both my Dad and most recently my Mom have passed, this song has added emotional significance to me. Thanks for posting this!
I lost my Dad to copd a few months ago. A friend posted this video on her fb page. I'm a 43 year old biker. I'm a big guy... The guy most are afraid of until they get to know. I'm dealing with a lot of personal demons right now and watching that video made me cry like a little girl. It was like my Dad was singing it... if he were still alive and could fu**ing breath!
This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. When I think about the context of it, it’s so amazing. Here’s a man close to dying in between his notes that he’s singing, an oxygen tank is feeding him air. The whole “Fix you” song is symbolic to the human spirit.
RIP Fred Knittle and also your best friend, Bob Salvini who was original to sing this with you as a duet but passed just days before this performance...
I watched this in 7th grade 10 years ago. We sang “fix you” for one of my spring/winter concerts. It was my first year in school after being homeschooled and man was it a culture shock.
I literally cry every time I hear this. I don’t care if his voice doesn’t match the speed, if he’s slightly off key, or whatever other complaint is out there. His voice has the lived, experienced, aching quality that matches the tone of this song so well and my heart breaks every time. Johnny Cash vibes all around. Whatever this song reminds you of, whatever heartbreak it resurfaced for you, remember that love is beautiful and every person touched by any version of this song is with you. ♥️
This is one of my favorite films, and this scene is one of my favorites. It touches me every time I watch it. Thanks for putting this together. It always makes me feel better. I seriously cannot thank all of you enough. It truly is a work of art.
7 years ago, I commented on this video. I watch it quite a lot because, other than being absolutely beautiful, I can relate to it. The lyrics just pull at my heart strings and then the water works begin. 😭I would love to go to a show sometime. I will be forever grateful to "discover" you 7 years ago and I keep all of you in my heart. Continue being the angles that walk amongst us, please. 🤗💚
I watched this docu years ago. Idk why but I got the sudden urge to watch the video. It gets me every time. I can't understand for the life of me why 100+ people disliked this.
This is incredible! I saw the movie a few weeks ago and just came across this randomly, knew right away what is was all about. I love this, it's one of the most authentic and heartwarming performances I've ever seen. Lots of respect to this guy and all the other people involved in this community.
I chose this beautiful song to be played at my father's funeral, now 2 years ago. We had seen and hugely enjoyed the documentary film and been to a concert when the choir visisted the Netherlands, where I live. When this song came on towards the end of the film, I immediately knew that I would want to have this song played at my dad's funeral. And, many years later, so it happened.....

This country does not respect elders. This documentary shines a light on them. You are lucky to live past 60. Life is precious. Can this video be more moving??? Omg
That's true well how are you doing today?
R.I.P. Fred... what a wonderful way to remember you by
Yes of course well how are you doing today?
the lights have guided you to a better place, RIP Fred
That was sweet :)
But why are so many people hating on Coldplay, he wrote this song for his wife and if you don't have any thing nice to say don't say it.
Best of times dear well how are you doing today?
@@nutjackson1938 that's pretty cool well I'm Smith mikeson by name and I'm located in San Francisco CA
@@nutjackson1938 so where are you located?

It Kills me. Every Time I watch this. More than just amazing.
To know the backstory, his body that he was going to do the duet with passed away just a few weeks before this performance. And so he goes out there by himself with tears filling his eyes and tearing at his heart and memories of his pal, he sings this interview. It is one of the most moving things I've ever seen.
Ever.
Just saw the documentary this morning and I was just blown away by this performance. Unbelievable RIP Fred, you had an amazing voice.
Could cry everytime I watch this. Goes directly to the heart.
This really is truly incredible. Touching. Has that same power as Cash's rendition of "Hurt."
Just captivating, tremendous stuff.
A simple, beautiful song - sung simply beautifully by Fred Knittle.
Yes of course a great and amazing song. Well how are you doing today?
I saw this film a few years ago on PBS, only a few years after my father had died. I was still lost in a world of grieving, and the sincerity of this performance brought me to tears. If you ever get to see the story connected to this performance of 'Fix You', it will become all the more poignant.
Tears really do come streaming down my face whenever I hear this song. Everyone should see the documentary.
This is the first time hearing of Young at Heart Chorus. Anyone who listens to this will be blessed one way or another. Wow!
Seen this many time and still moves me.
+phildonot it moved me too...so much that I crapped my draws
Thats mans voice is chocolate silk! Incredible!!!
einfach großartig und überwältigend dieser Chor. Absolut sehenswerter Film mit fantastischer Musik und sehr interessanten alten Männern und Frauen und einen begeisternden Chorleiter. Weltklasse!!!!!!
Tears ran down my face pretty much throughout this movie. My scarf was soaked after.
So do we all dear well how are you doing today?
My Mom and I saw this movie, "Young at Heart" and remember how powerful it was and still is...brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it! Now that both my Dad and most recently my Mom have passed, this song has added emotional significance to me. Thanks for posting this!
I can't listen to his cover without my eyes brimming over. What an amazing tribute, and an inspiring performance.
I lost my Dad to copd a few months ago. A friend posted this video on her fb page. I'm a 43 year old biker. I'm a big guy... The guy most are afraid of until they get to know. I'm dealing with a lot of personal demons right now and watching that video made me cry like a little girl. It was like my Dad was singing it... if he were still alive and could fu**ing breath!
damn brother! big hug
Much love to u and your fathers eternal soul man!!
Marvelous. So human.
🌟🌟🌟 He's gone now to the sky, where I'm sur he's shining as a star ❤

Saw this at the cinema - still brings a tear
This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. When I think about the context of it, it’s so amazing. Here’s a man close to dying in between his notes that he’s singing, an oxygen tank is feeding him air. The whole “Fix you” song is symbolic to the human spirit.
I'm not crying, you are. Shut up.
It’s so good to see seniors showing up This is so precious and a classic!
RIP Fred Knittle and also your best friend, Bob Salvini who was original to sing this with you as a duet but passed just days before this performance...
Still crying with this version.
This chorus is so precious to me. Yes the elderly can be productive and their songs are so inspiring.
Yes of course dear beautiful and amazing Well how are you doing today?
I used to show this in some of my university courses. Students loved the doc.
Wonderful, just watched this movie & omg we can all learn something from these amazing people.
For those of you that gave a thumbs down you should watch the whole program. You don’t get it and can’t shine that mans shoes.
This performance gives me chills. It is so well done considering the circumstances of the death of his friend and duet partner on this song.
Hello
One breath for his friend who passed away and one breath for him so they will share the same air for ever: a lesson of friendship…
I love you grandma....miss you
This movie is absolutely amazing.
Best performance i ever saw... remember my father, i`ve cryed, God Bless Him!
This was incredibly moving. I could feel the emotion in his voice the moment he started singing.
Still gives me goosebumps... Thank you Fred Knittle, sleep tight...
He sounds like Johnny Cash!
+Zoe Halliday exactly what I was thinking.
If this doesn't touch your heart and soul. I don't know what will.
This is sooo sweet and heartmoving! Young people should watch this! God Bless You All!
Bless you too dear 🙏 well how are you doing today?
One of my favorite documentaries ❤
Cry every time...
every... damn... time.
