      It was a series before it's time really. It was vastly different to SG1 and SGA but, had it came out today with the SciFi shows that are being made now, it would be a massive hit.

      I wasn't a fan of the show, it missed all the feel-good vibes of SG-1. They hit their stride in the last season which, IMO, would've been nice to continue. Sorry to see it end when it was just spooling up.

      The music most definitely would need to be as close to Joel Goldsmith's (RIP) score as possible. Perhaps his family would even be okay with letting some of his unused music pieces for any SGU storylines that are done. The soundtrack was the unseen cast member of the show, and was always instrumental in punctuating the tone & atmosphere of every scene/episode perfectly. At some points, it was indistinguishable from any of Hans Zimmer's best work. Joel Goldsmith was our John Williams.

    I really like the idea that the planet builders would give Rush the choice. Then after they return the crew home the new series could have a b story line where everybody loves and praises Rush as a hero for choosing to save the crew then we eventually find out that he actually chose his pursuit of knowledge over the crew. And that returning the crew to earth was actually the punishment... not the reward.

    I guess the comic book explaination of ancients being found in deep storage on Destiny is being tossed. Probably for the best. Although its angle made sense. The Destiny was barely explored and there were many more rooms with helpful stuff and people in it. Our favorite deep space gamer just did what should have been done immediately once they found space suits.
    I wholeheartedly believe the only way to make a new Stargate succeed is to introduce a whole new team that brings in or has a few of the "younger" prior cast to comprise the new team. Then the show starts tying up all loose ends like saving the crew of Destiny and maybe going public on Earth.
    A SG1, Atlantis, Universe mashup show would be perfect. I'm worried about the actual sets they would need to build/rebuild. Even if it's just Rodney McKay back at Stargate command helping the new SG1, I know it would work.

    I like the possibility that the Destiny ends up at Earth, or at least that its database does. Combine that with working out either how to build ZPMs or an equivalent power supply from the Asgaard or Ancient databases and technology they have access to, it would open up a whole load of possible exploration options in "nearby" galaxies which would allow mixing in genuine exploration stories with ongoing galactic and planetary politics. That would give something of a reason for stargate operations to continue. Of course, that would require having at least one forward operating base in each galaxy with a gate that had a power source and control system capable of dialing Earth (or, better, a "safe" secondary site that isn't Earth).

  • @johncampbell2297
    @johncampbell2297 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Loved the video and the story idea was absolutely banger. This idea is exactly what they should do as it would help close out the series and doesn't need the whole SGU cast to do it. It also gets Destiny back to Sol system so we have another Ancient ship to take apart, or maybe to another system such as the alpha site so they can land and allow the ship to be in atmosphere and then find all kinds of "stuff" on the ship as well as bring the Congressman home.

  • @johnassal5838
    @johnassal5838 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Im not sold. For one thing the Ancients didn't get distracted no matter how boring the minutia is so even Ascension would only make them _more_ interested in figuring out the godlike signature not less. In fact it really only makes sense for them to abandon Destiny and it's mission if they came to suspect the signal was bait for a trap and never recalled Destiny or it's seedships for fear of tipping their hand if they'd already given away thier existence by then.
    You can look at the entire SG story arc as the Ancients and Tauri forming an implicit alliance leading to all the nagging mistakes the Ancients left unresolved being addressed in turn from the goa'uld appropriation of their gate network to enslave the second incarnation of humans that they created to the end of their oldest enemy the Ori. Even the replicators that plagued the Asgard appear to have been made by an android in turn created by an Ancient who returned to the Milky Way when Atlantis was abandoned. The Wraith too were inadvertently created by the ancient Lanteans and while they weren't completely dealt with the conflict with the Pegasus replicators and Micheal's faction spreading feeding immunity they're pretty weak when we last see them. The Pegasus replicators being yet another loose thread the Ancients left that the Tauri tied up. Ffs Shepherd even helps a whole gaggle of Ancients stuck on the edge of ascension to finally pull the trigger and ascend...
    Obviously it wasn't something the writers started out intending but they plainly started to embrace it by the time they wrote Adria literally calling out the ancients for covertly targeting the Ori via the Tauri. We already know they chose not to stop the Tauri if nothing else. If we extend that line then we could reexamine the plot of SGU and maybe now it looks like the personnel of Icarus base forced into going to Destiny was the Ancient's idea of an opening move against the Planet Builders/Signalers not coincidentally after finally dealing with all these long term threats they left closer to home. Like literally every single one of them.

    • @aka-47k
      @aka-47k ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah makes much more sence, esp since after ascencion ancient would definitely pursue further if further existed.
      their whole not being involved into lower realms is actually for the sake of their obsession, to concentrate all their effort to go further!

    I had the idea that the Destiny wasn't traveling out in a straight line, but in a giant circle. Which would mean that at some point Destiny would be returning to Earth all by itself, and the next galaxy they were crossing to when the show ended was the Milky Way.

  • @JustAnOldPyro
    @JustAnOldPyro ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Just a thought but, what if...
    Eli Wallace "David Blue" looks so different on screen because he literally survived hell with a handful of the team from Destiny after finding out the "Planet Builders" traced and interpreted the signal as a declaration of war by a civilization "Single or multiple races" that had survived their universe collapsing in upon itself, and through their actions caused the collapse before entropy could destroy their universe. We would then find out that their actions had side effects such as the creation of the Multiverse, which they are harvesting as fuel for their empire in an effort to reboot the universe again in a more perfected form than what we have now.
    Just think of the possibilities that could happen if the multiverse was opened up on a wider scale... One upside is it would give the cast/crew access to trapdoors so if someone onscreen passes or quits there's a canon explanation on how they got replaced quickly by someone as talented or more so... or even be the same person and looks different.

    SGU continuation could be brought back as a climactic convergence that picks up these many years later. I recall that at the end of Star Gate Atlantis, they figured out a way to have Atlantis instantly teleport to Earth in time to save it from a Wraith invasion. If the objective was to get out as far as the Destiny is, why not bring some of the characters from both previous series together and teleport Atlantis out there. Then you have some elements of all 3 series together for a climactic experience. Whether its to save the Destiny & its crew and get them home or to find out what that universal mystery is. Involving Atlantis would make sense, its a lot more advanced then Destiny and can serve as a safe harbor for the trip. It would seem that its almost a necessity to have that insta teleport capability to actually reach the boundary of the universe which is just so incomprehensibly far that any other FTL would still take billions of years to get to.

    Wow! I Love Love Love that whole concept of *The Choice* you outlined. Where Dr. Rush gets a choice of either learning in detail of the "signal" and in so doing, "touching the face of God" (so to speak), OR saving Destiny and the crew and everyone and the ship being able to go home.... Wow... I'm betting that in a situation like THAT Dr. Rush somehow manages to get the Destiny AND the crew sent home, AND he himself (and only him) gets to learn all about "the signal" and he alone gets to "touch the face of God"...
    I could totally envision something like that, but with a number of plot twists, and surprises, and angst and tension... finally culminating in the final act of ultimate discovery and enlightenment... What a great story that would be!!
    They simply HAVE to do some kind of story like THIS to tie up the SG:U hanging plot thread that's just dangling out there... They just have to!!

    I liked SGU so much right from the first episode. I think the whole series might have had maybe one or two episodes that I didn't consider at least good and some of them were absolutely excellent. Some reviewer wrote about it: "SGU has in it's first eight episodes, seven actual scifi stories." And I agree. I hope they open up some of the mysteries that were left hanging by the cancellation of that series. I think there was a small comic that advanced the story a tiny bit, but it didn't go very far iirc.

    The city of Atlantis may have the specs for the Destiny in its archives and since it's less advanced than the Atlantis tech, it may be easier fix for the people of Earth to fix. It would be nice to see a conclusion to the Pegasus Galaxy whose humans may be suffering a setback without the Atlantis crew.

    You know, I have been a Star Gate fan since the original movie came out. I think about it a lot these days.
    Idea One: Ian, in his time alone, finds out about the information Rush tried to keep from him. With this information and new knowledge, Ian manages to bring some of Destiny's systems online to help repair the ship. He fixes his stasis chamber and joins the crew in stasis to reach the next Galaxy. Once they reach the new galaxy, they have a few more adventures and contact SG Command to provide them a manner of gating to the Destiny, saving the crew and using some Naqqadah generators to power the gate on Destiny to come home -- sadly Destiny continues on without the crew...
    Idea Two: SG Command figures out a way to gate to the Destiny and they send an inspection/Search team to find out what's going on. They arrive to find Ian still out of his stasis pod, growing food, learning more about Destiny and finding out how to make systems support him as the stasis pod is non-repairable. The new team contacts the SGC, they send in a Repair/Research contingent to the Destiny and, combined with what Ian has learned, they manage to redirect the Destiny to the Milky Way and from there, rescue/return is effected as they have a few adventures in the process.
    Idea Three: Atlantis, having been fully repaired and repowered leaves Earth for where the Destiny was supposed to be headed. They get 'close enough' and have solved the dialing issues the might otherwise prevent them gating to the Destiny (remember, in the original SGU, they gated onto a moving target in a galaxy far, far away from a planet with special power abilities), and gate from Atlantis to Destiny, solve problems, save the crew (Ian managed to fix the stasis chamber, or Ian manages to survive, take your pick) and reprogram the Destiny to head for Atlantis where they 'land' along one of the giant docking areas and Atlantis star drives back to Earth -- of course, having some adventures and issues along the way for good SG based drama.
    Hope you like the ideas and perhaps you can pitch it to your contact who can then pitch to whomever, who will then pitch it to Amazon, etc.

More likely to borrow from Pohl's Heechee Saga & find a kind of intergalactic Grand Central Station of the Local Cluster, maybe with puddle jumpers equipped as temporary gates, & reel them in that way. If the planet builders /signal senders were that big a deal then achieving ascension would only make the ancients more interested in them not less. That means either they came to see them as a sinister threat and kept well away or they couldn't tell and took their time figuring out a course of action ever since unwilling to charge in until they knew more.

    • @puddintame7794
      @puddintame7794 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the planet builders are ascended beings more in the vein of the Ori. Not seeking worshippers but willing to involve themselves.
      The ancients achieved ascension so didn't need Destiny to find it elsewhere.
      Destiny is all about ascension swapping consciousness, storing consciousness and directly integrating machinery into consciousness. That is what destiny's mission was... to achieve ascension. It became redundant the moment the Ancients first achieved it.

    As someone who watched the entire SG from start to finish as it was being aired as far back as the First movie I would love to see more of it. I owned most of AG1 as I had lost some of the DVDs at some point. I also own all of Atlantis and SGU. If they can properly close SGU and make an interesting new series I would love that. But I am hoping they do it right and don't do like a lot of what others have done and destroyed their movies or TV series. Also I watch David Blue on Twitch and he has changed a lot since SGU.

    I love this idea, and really hope that Mark Fergus is A) being taken seriously by Amazon leadership, and B) this "insider info" is legit and not going to end up as just another bit of good news that dissolves into the ether. Having the Planet Builders come to Rush as the decider of going forward with the mission (where he also has a future with an able-bodied Amanda Perry via Destiny's "matrix world") versus going back to Earth (where Amanda is dead & he has little-to-nothing left to live for besides Earth-based Lucian Alliance cells targeting him & IOA/SGC people grilling him for the rest of his life for his actions on the Destiny mission, AND those of his alternate self) would be intriguing enough on its own to make an entire episode/movie out of.
    That implies that the Planet Builders, with the level of omniscience they seem to possess, have not only been tracking & seeing into the minds of the crew, but have chosen Rush for A) being the most invested in seeing the mission through, and B) despite his self-serving/malicious actions along the way. Presumably they would also be aware of anything alternate-Rush did, and however many times he exploited the "Twin Destinies" timeloop - a perspective not even Rush himself would have. So to have chosen Rush for this decision is a pretty incredible plot twist, and I'm here for it.

    • @johnassal5838
      @johnassal5838 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's a mistake to assume the motives of the Planet Builders are all that pure and it's certain that they don't really understand humans, possibly not even the most basic aspects of life and death in this universe otherwise they wouldn't have made copies of/resurrected Kane's bunch just to die the same horrible ways again.

    • @danielbuchanan6069
      @danielbuchanan6069 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnassal5838 I agree 100%. They were shown to be pretty heavy-handed with the ways of humanity in "Visitation", both with the way they waited to show up for Kane until he was breathing his last frozen breaths after the rest of his crew had died, and the way their reanimated zombies were brought back to Destiny only to relive the way each of them died...but on the flip side of that coin, Young & the rest were shown what the fates of the crew left behind were, perhaps as a hard lesson learned about "never leaving our people behind". As a trade-off, they did provide a factory-new shuttle in the process, that was desperately needed in their path ahead.
      The Planet Builders do seem to be more alien/AI/machine-like in their interpretation and handling of human matters - a bit of a counter to Destiny's sentient AI that showed more human compassion through testing Young with the "Trial and Error" scenarios to motivate him out of drinking & giving up and getting him back to leading, and TJ's dream of her baby surviving and being cared for on Eden (including letting her see the nebula that Destiny had charted ahead as a signature on its work)... that moral dichotomy between the Planet Builders & Destiny's AI just adds more to the intrigue of the prospect of Rush being put in the position of making the big choice.
      I still like the Planet Builders more than the Ancients at this point, ascended or not. They seem to be learning about humans through the Destiny crew, much like Destiny herself is, as they go. If they can make a star & an Earth-like planet in the Goldilocks Zone, they can also make a supergate & a black hole wherever they want to send them back to the Milky Way, or simply teleport Destiny back into Earth orbit if they want...but they haven't yet, which shows they do have their own agenda & plans for the Destiny and crew. I'd be interested to see what the ascended Ancients have to say to them regarding their interventions, which of course are forbidden by them.
      They could even end up being a faction of the ascended ancients that originally built & sent Destiny on the mission, that over the millions of years decided to split off from the rest (like the Asgard that went to Pegasus) and are helping push the Destiny & crew forward to completing the mission. I'd be fine with that too, but it'd be more interesting to me for them to be a separate race of aliens that are native to that part of the universe, like the Nakai, Ursini, etc.
      Mark Fergus & Amazon, make this happen please!🙏🙏🙏

    I'll be honest, I didn't like SGU at first. I watched it, but it just didn't appeal to me. The planet builders were a cool idea, but what really got me interested in the show was finding out Destiny's mission. The idea of a pattern in the background radiation of the universe is massive, like mind bogglingly massive. I was extremely excited to see what they did with that. I was sad to see the show end before anything came of it.

  • @johnpeterman5367
    @johnpeterman5367 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well it would have SGU series come to an ending, though I and many others would like it to have continued. They had a means of getting supplies to Destiny, (season 2 ep 15}, they just needed time to correct our error and restore faith. They had the robots on the ship to help repair Destiny. They could have even sent more teams through the gate to Destiny if they wanted to continue SGU with new personnel. They even had the means to partially power Destiny if it ran out of power going between galaxies by sending equipment through the stargate. That would help explain why everyone aged. I am not keen on the planet builders idea. We already know that the first generation stargates had a limited distance and could not reach across galaxies, so trying to save them with the McKay bridge as in SGA wasn't going to work. No ship we had could reach them in a fair time and return accept Atlantis, and the drive was burned out, also need a location. So seeing the series run its course in a new galaxy with new adventures would have been a nice thing to see as a continuation even though at this time they could not be saved. At least not at this time. Maybe after a few more galaxies and a few more years they find the help they need to fix Destiny to her former glory where she could be fully powered back up and have travel by stargate both ways. As always, just my 2 cents.

    What if one of the newly reformed Ori Priors helped out with the Destiny situation? That would be a twist!
    The planet builders could have been an earlier set of ascended beings that preceded the Ancients.
    I wonder if the asended planes had an internet with different access levels. That could explain the difference in knowledge between early SG1 seasons and later seasons of ascended beings. It could also explain why the shuttle of the Destiny was returned fully functional, but the returned crew still died shortly after.

  • @johnwang9914

    The challenge would be to have a plot line that accounts for aging actors, not all actors being available, casting new actors and recreating as well as building new sets. As to Ellis having to repair a stasis bay or somehow survive, I think he could upload himself to the computer through the use of the neural chair, his body would die but he would be with his love and might still be able to interact with the crew as part of the computer perhaps even as a hologram and or android avatar or as with the stones, by possessing the bodies of others. As to falling short of reaching the next Galaxy, there are the possibilities of rogue planets and brown dwarves between galaxies so there is still the hope of gathering some resources and perhaps they might encounter another seed ship that also got stranded in intergalactic space which perhaps decided to seed a few stargates in intergalactic space till it could refuel enough perhaps from brown dwarves, to return to it's mission plan.

  • @MarcSGA
    @MarcSGA ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve always thought there’s a relatively easy way to bring back SGU. Just handwave the age of the actors by saying the stasis pods weren’t perfect at preserving the occupants/were damaged/were too old and the destiny fell short and floated for ~75 years or something. So everyone aged the equivalent of 10 years. Eli fixed his pod but it took him 2 months or something that’s why he’s so thin and it’s also why the ship fell short.
    Built in immediate drama as the crew is utterly enraged at being stuck in the pods for so long because Eli had to make an impossible choice, addresses the visual issues with an aged crew and relatively easy to resolve as all it requires is some yelling and catharsis and then the crew can get right back to things like it never happened.

    I was thinking about this: Destiny's crew would have found from the ship database that more Destiny-class ships have been launched in all directions and in order to get a complete signal from the relic radiation, they would have to link all these ships together using communication stone technology, which allows to communicate over extreme distances of many billions of light years. But to transmit that much data and link multiple targets, they need to find on Destiny original terminal that allows this function to be set through connection with a Stargate. And by completing the data, it will be possible to understand what's going on.

I'd be open to a sort of reboot reset idea where the crew, upon reaching the 'end of the universe' gain the ability to rewrite their reality where all the wrongs they've had to deal with are fixed - Rush gets his wife back, Grier's dad doesn't have the PTSD related problems, Tamara doesn't get ALS or lose her child, Chloe's dad is still alive..etc. At that point it creates another universe/timeline and the new showrunners can use that as a jumping off point for their new Stargate Show.

And your entire story is nothing more than what if’s and potentially what could be. One obvious step is for Destiny to come across a star or stars in the void between galaxies with planets that allow refueling Destiny far from the enemy behind them, and to replenish its food stores. Prior to this, Eli unlocks the full control over Destiny allowing him to stop it for a protracted period at the star(s), AND to pull data from the seed ships highlighting the opportunities and dangers ahead. Eli then awakens a small subset of the crew to replenish Destiny before retasking the seed ships and Destiny on a new course. What new course? Why something found in Destiny's long mission search of the signal.

    Isn't Season 10 of SG-1 before SGU? Which means that SG Command should have access to the Asgard Computer Core. This means that in a couple of year we could see a multi-national team of 100 or so crew gate to Destiny with a ton of equipment for power, life support, matter replicator etc. Even if they just brought a couple dozen repair bots, power sources to power the ship and the gate, and then supplies, they could create a base in the Milkyway with Asgard power cores to power trips to Desinty whenever they needed.
    Then it could be something as simple as at the end of the season the Planet Builders figure that the ship has travelled far enough and teleports Desinty back to Earth and disappear the gate on Destiny so that we can't reverse engineer that type of stargate.
    That would mean we save the crew, we can have some adventures where not everything is life and death or trying to scavenge food, and at the end have a finale where it is a pretty hard cut off of the series.
