- How to Make Delicious Nigerian Egusi Soup
Welcome back to my channel! Today, I’m sharing my recipe for one of Nigeria’s favorite dishes - Egusi soup. Let’s get started!
Ingredients
• Goat meat and beef (washed and cooked until tender)
• Ground egusi (melon seeds) (molded into balls)
• Palm oil
• Onions (chopped)
• Dawadawa (washed)
• Blended mixture of bell peppers, onions, and Scotch bonnet peppers
• Crayfish (ground)
• Seasoning cubes (Maggi or your favorite)
• Salt (to taste)
• Mackerel fish and croaker fish (washed)
• Bitter leaves (washed)
Preparation Steps
1. Prep Your Meat and Fish:
Begin by washing your goat meat and beef. Season them with your favorite spices, cook until tender, and set them aside.
2. Heat the Palm Oil:
In a clean, dry pot, heat your palm oil slightly.
3. Add Onions and Dawadawa:
Toss in the chopped onions and washed dawadawa to release their rich aroma.
4. Shape and Fry the Egusi Balls:
Mold your ground egusi into small ball shapes and place them in the heated oil. Fry until they firm up.
5. Add the Blended Peppers:
Pour in your blended mixture of bell peppers, onions, and Scotch bonnet peppers. Stir everything together to form a delicious base.
6. Incorporate Meat and Seasonings:
Add your cooked goat meat and beef to the pot. Season with crayfish, Maggi cubes, and salt to taste.
7. Add Fish and Simmer:
Gently place your mackerel and croaker fish into the pot. Cover and let the soup cook so the flavors meld beautifully.
8. Finish with Bitter Leaves:
Finally, add your bitter leaves. Stir gently and allow the soup to cook for a few more minutes. Your Egusi soup is ready!
