As a former super cub owner, I can relate to this. The feeling of owning your first bike, doing mods to it and found friends that share the same passion for bike back in high school is truly awesome.
Not me - my first bike was a Honda CB400T Hawk II. I love how Koguma looks out the window at her Cub the first time she goes inside after bringing it home, and how she makes an unnecessary night shopping trip as an excuse to go riding.
My first bike was a 2002 Honda Innova 125 which I bought after doing odd jobs here and there. This anime makes me relate so hard. From the first trip to the first oil change I did on my own when i was 17... man that brings back memories...! Another thing that makes me relate is how she pats the saddle, or how she finds exuses for late night rides.
This anime is hitting all the same chords for me that Laid Back Camp did, except that Super Cub is doing it better: I think its because of the MC's problem solving attitude; she never assumes a problem is unsolvable, she thinks about it, tries a course of action and if it doesn't work she tries another and works through the issues that crop up around the Cub. And that grin she gets every now and then when looking at her bike is awesome :-)
Hmmm... the way Rin and Nadeshiko complement each other is so fun to watch - Ena was right to plot to get them together. One thing Super Cub does much better is integrating 2D and 3DCG animation - the way Rin's Vino 50 is shown moving around on pavement would be a fraction of a second before a nasty high-side fall in real life, while the bikes in Super Cub track properly wheels in line.
I have recently visited Japan again and this time visited a number of real life locations used in "Super CUB"..Including the school and Koguma's home...Was surreal.
Man, I really watched this anime at the right time. Just got my dad's old Honda 100 working and legit couldn't forget how fucking awesome it felt going 60 down country roads for the first time. Bikes are beautiful pieces of engineering. The feeling you get from them is just unique.
My first proper bike was also a Honda. A late 80s CBR 1000F. And like the little Cub to those girls, it will be forever in my heart as something special. I have ridden many bikes since. But the this old Honda will always feel special and it feels unique and like home. I just bought the little sister, a 87 CBR 600. And its like an old love woke up again. Bikes really are something to fill an empty life with joy and happieness.
I recently watched Super Cub, and I absolutely loved it. Seeing Koguma go from having practically nothing to having her motorcycle, two good friends, and an enjoyment in life… it was so wonderful. The series, for the most part, was quite relaxing, and the soundtrack was PERFECT. What else can I say?… I loved it. I’m so glad I took time to watch it. This is definitely a series I will watch again :)
A great analysis and thanks for the work you've put into this video. There's little I can add, as you've expressed the very same sentiments I have. This is such a wholesome series that, as an old fogey in his sixties, I can't help but feel proud of Miss Kaguma as she discovers her own potential through exploring her burgeoning passion for motorcycling. Oh and that smile, when she returns home and parks her bike. Just perfect!
I got my first bike without even asking on my 14th birthday.. But since I moved out at 19 and buying a mountain bike from my own salary just a month ago is the best feeling I've ever felt. 🥰 when I ride in months of early winter I feel like all my worries have been unloaded.
This is the first video of yours I've seen. Very impressed. The only other analysis channels I follow are Beyond Ghibli and UTS. Your style is a welcome addition. As for the show, I pretty much agree with you 100%. I ride a motorcycle and am not exactly a fan of scooters. But I can very much relate to Koguma's initial experiences with riding. The attention to technical/mechanical details was incredible. It's like the creators were given free access to Honda's engineering dept. I'm already a 'slice-of-life' fan, and hearing Debussy's music had me immediately hooked.
Excellent narrative and understanding of what this anime series is about. Super Cub, Yuru Camp and Akebi's Sailor Uniform are my top three slice of live animes. I already have pre-ordered the Super Cub Blu-Ray that will be released in the US on May 31, 2022 👍.
I am very much new to Japanese anime...But I have seen this show..and LOVE IT!..The fact the name "Koguma"..means "Little Bear"..adds to the fact she is riding a Cub!...I also had a cat whom I named "Little Bear" a longtime ago...Was a stray whom I took in...This adds to my affection for the show......And surprising enough..I have recently visited Kagoshima..And other places mentioned in the show like Kumamoto. This solo trip to Japan was in Jan..And before I had heard of the anime "Super Cub"..I wish I had known before the trip so I could have brought some of the anime and manga etc of the show while there..How ever, I did purchase some for "Laid-Back Camp" which I vaguely knew about before the trip....And also I brought some for the anime "K-On!"..Which I did know a little about before the trip...As it had a influence on the founder of my now favourite band whom I had gone to Japan to see LIVE in Tokyo (from UK).....I have yet to watch "Laid-Back Camp"..But have watched all of "K-On!", "Super Cub" and "Bocchi The Rock"..ALL wonderfull in the way they are conveyed...The music in "Super Cub" also adds so much to the ambiance for me...I do hope for a second series..but I do not think it will happen...which would be such a shame.
Welcome back, Yata! As usual, your writing is quite beautiful and really sets the mood. That said, I felt the editing to be too aggressive at times. All those zoom-in, zoom-out transitions were dizzying and ill-suited to the vibing atmosphere of your writing. They distracted me from your voice. Those are just my thoughts. I'm no video-editor so this is all just my opinion. Still, I do like the way you set the tone of what super cub is about and do hope to see you improve in your endeavors whatever they may be.
Thanks for checking out the video Daniel and doubly thanks for leaving a comment with some constructive criticism., that is something I always appreciate greatly. On the editing issue with the zoom in and out, this is not the first time that this issue was brought up to me in relation to this video so it was clearly a big FAIL on my end in terms of the production of the video as a whole. Live and learn I guess. Hopefully, I take some of the lessons I learned from this video and apply them to future projects going forward. :)
I can't recommend this anime enough when someone asks for something to watch, it may have all the Honda tie ins but it doesn't matter it takes its time it makes you feel. I'm speaking of my experience with the English dub
The first half 2021 was truly C O M F for me, as I experienced both Yuru Camp S2 and Super Cub, one season after the other. Yuru Camp and Super Cub fans are the same people, after all, both shows happen in Yamanashi prefecture (Yuru Camp mostly in Minobu, and Super Cub in Hokuto), and both shows gave us peaceful lives amidst the then locked-down world. As a musician, my favorite detail in both shows is the use of their soundtracks to emphasize the emotions, and in Super Cub, the addition of classical pieces like Fryderyk Chopin's Nocturne Op. No. 2 in Eb Major, Erik Satie's Gymnopedia No. 1 (which I played myself here: th-cam.com/video/HogXDP6eq-4/w-d-xo.html) and Je Te Veux, Claude Debussy's Clair de Lune, Arabesque No. 1, and La fille aux chevaux de lin (The Maiden with the Flaxen Hair - aka the "national anthem" of Windows 7), and Edward Elgar's Salut d'Amour really made the highlights of the episodes - so much so that I use which piece to remember the episode itself: Gymnopedie is Episode 7, Chopin's Nocturne is Episode 10, Arabesque No. 1 and Clair de Lune are Episode 1, and Salut d'Amour is Episode 12. Best part: Yuki Yomichi, who voiced Koguma, is herself a super-big motorcycle fan - starting from her high school years - and herself posts lots of motovlogs and videos about motorcycling on her vlog www.youtube.com/@yomichiyuki (here's her cosplay promo shoot for Super Cub as Koguma: th-cam.com/video/MtjMq15E3ew/w-d-xo.html). Also, Ayaka Nanase, Reiko's CV, was gifted an MD90 Hunter Cub - similar to Reiko's - for her birthday in 2021. Finally, Shii Eniwa Best Girl. Viva Italia!
I wonder how the students and staff at Hokuto Shiritsu Mukawa Junior High School (used as the model for the high school), workers at Kuma's Factory architecture (model for Shino's), and residents at 県営住宅日野春団地 apartment complex (model for Koguma's) feel about the show - the buildings and their surroundings look almost identical in the anime to Google Maps Street View images?
i had a look and the effect is like they brushed up the google view and put her in it.this is one of the best of this type of anime i have seen.the attention to detail is eye watering.
@@wetcanoedogs - I recently noticed that Kuma's Factory is listed in the credits but not exactly what for since I do not read Kanji. Honda was also consulted to make sure all the details on the bikes were drawn correctly.
This is the second time I've seen someone talking about this anime. Looks like an interesting, artistic slice of life. Still probably not my cup of tea, that reminds me I still need to Watch Wonder Egg.
I, too, loved Yuru Camp. And I love this type of series in genreal. But Super Cub? Naaw. It's too quiet for it's own good, the color pallete is too grey and dull and half the characters seem to have some kind of mental illness. This is more depressing than relaxing or entertaining. This is an anti-anime that was made to make people not want to watch it. The best scene in the 1st 3 episodes is the one where she drives down that hill with her bycicle early in episode 1. It was a beautyful scene and the sound was amazing. But then it turned into a depressing honda comercial that reminds me more of late 90/early00 live action movies from japan that got good reviews by western critics.
obviously, i respectfully disagree i really loved the series but hey we got Yuru Camp Ito to agree on and Gunsmith Cats too which is one of my favorite OVA's I still want that Bull Mustang to this day and I can't even drive

"the space *is* the substance": that's just wonderfully put
It's the prettiest ever user guide to Honda's Cub and one of the calmest things I've watched in ages 🥰
Man, I really watched this anime at the right time.

Awesome review. I have been watching the show and it's become my favorite. Crazy to say but, everytime Koguma smiles I feel happy.

Just wanna let people know that the manga is ongoing, and just as good :)
Thanks

Great video for a wonderful show, Super Cub is easily going to be in my top 10 anime, it really is something special.
i agree 100% the show has really left a mark on me
I like your analysis of this anime as much as I liked Super Cub. Good job
Thanks for your great review of this little masterpiece. I'm going to treat myself to a rewatch binge of Super Cub!
Thanks for checking out the video. Always good to hear of others who appreciate this gem.
Finished this weeks ago, was really something special.
Awesome job with the script and editing! This is a lovely video for a lovely show.
as always thanks Whimsey for checking it out and hoping to see a bone witch review on your channel soon :)
Definitely going to check this show out. But geeze, the editing in this is silky smooth man. Hooked from the first few seconds.

Underrated TH-camr.
Your narration and word choice is excellent. A wonderful review on an excellent anime series.
Excellent video, Yata! I'm looking forward to more like this one.
Great take, kinda the appeal of all Slice of Life, definitely there in Super Cub.
beautifully done! hope to see more of your works soon!
thank you so much
thats why she bought the thermo lunch box damnn
Name of the anime from 0:20-0:31?

An unsung hero of the last season.
Sounds like am gonna re-watch it again.
Do you have any suggestions to the same kind of anime, smooth and peaceful.
God, i need to live more.🥺😱
thank you
