      You should be Razor'd in on best techniques ,practices, conditions, and adjustments.. Laser focus. Not thinking about how you "feel". Things you have practiced 10,000 times.. you're not normally scared about. Know your job that well.. especailly when human life is involved.

    • @ey7290
      @ey7290 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In some ways being scared is a good thing. It means you're alert

    • @arcdestriumph586
      @arcdestriumph586 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DolphinsWIthIgloos Fear is the enemy of concentration .. Practice is the enemy of insecurity and fear. I never "fear" not being able to tie my shoe- I'm that practiced at it- I can do it blindfolded in the dark. I drove a 9000 gallon truck of gasoline for my job for 5 years ... 1 gallon of gasoline = 3 sticks of dynamite in explosive power/27,000 sticks of dynamite. Going through traffic.. gasoline doesn't care whose fault the accident is caused by. I'm familiar with my faults.. or being unable to respond quickly enough to others faults being a lethal problem. The proper emotional status is hightened concern and full mental engagement.. scanning for problems.. constant adjustment. If you're frightened- white knuckling- You're concentrating on "what ifs" - not concentrating on adjusting and re-evaluation to your corrections. When I evaluated potential new drivers.. as a company trainer.. I looked for the vigilant, the attentive, those who scanned for problems like a Hawk-the responsive, the defensive. ...Those overwhelmed at the enormity and possible leathality of the task weren't prepared for the job. We didn't waste time on people who needed to be coaxed away from their fears.. they were concentrating on the wrong things.

      Served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in 1986-7, in Air Ops. Air Operations is also where I watched the movie, "Top Gun", for the first time, and hearing my Air Traffic Controller shipmate cry out, "MIRACLE TRAP" when Cougar landed his Tomcat, after being shaken up by the "MIG" (The MIG was actually a Northup F-5; a single seat fighter version of the T-38 Talon). My birthing space was 2 "bananas" behind secondary conn, on the 02 level, & you can always tell from our birthing space when a Greyhound/Hawkeye launched from the deck off the bow cat, by the propeller noise.

      I was told by a flight surgeon that fighter pilots hold their hands on a handle (called "towel rail") to prevent them from pushing the stick down because the acceleration is so strong that it affects the vestibular system in the ear and makes you think the plane is pitching up.
      I guess the C2 has a slower acceleration on the carrier since the instructing pilot tells her to hold the hand on the yoke during the whole take-off roll.

      With any luck that female pilot will encounter and successfully complete every situation during her flying career that will test her training, skills, wits and self confidence. The minute she begins to doubt her own abilities, and that of her steed (aircraft) is the time she could fail. Knowing her own abilities and limitations is half the battle. Making the right decisions based on known values and acting on them is the other half. All of our military service airmen receive the best training in the world - bar none.

    Regarding the comments about the pilot not holding the yoke.. Years ago, the holes in the seat tracks on the Cessna 152/172's would become enlarged, so that the pin wouldn't fully engage or "hold" when the seat was moved forward or back. Upon takeoff the pilots would be holding the yoke and throttle, and during rotation, the seat pin would come out of the seat rail causing the seat to go back and at the same time the pilot death clutching the yoke and throttle, causing a stall and crash. When I was in flight training we were told to keep fingers on the throttle and a light touch or hold on the yoke (which should be done anyways if it is trimmed properly) in case the mechanism holding the seat in place ever failed.

    I've become fascinated by these C-2/E-2 vids, particularly with the pilots' using their right hand to control the throttles, their left hand the yoke, and their left thumb constantly adjusting the trim via the buttons on the left side of the yoke (not to mention their feet are working the pedals). Seems to me that it's a lot like patting your head and rubbing your stomach while riding a unicycle--but you fall into the ocean if you goof up. Mad respect to the pilots, the pilot-instructors, and the flight deck operations crews. And many thanks for the "meatball" explanation

    So something I never considered landing a plane with a yoke versus a stick might be harder in this situation because you have to use your left hand on the yoke and your right hand on the throttle. That means for most people using your non dominant hand for complex movements and even then on an off center control
    Thus landing the mail plane might be harder than landing a fighter on a carrier

    I had a similar experience when an instructor in the Air Force. You know... tv guys want to show how good are women at controls. And if the woman is not good enough, they ask if you can do one approach, then they edit the recordings and voilá. So, never believe what you see on tv. Specially when it all goes with the current.
