An introduction to Cs-corrected S/TEM

- Hello fellow microscopists!
Every semester, each staff member in our facility gives a presentation to the user base about a topic of his/her choosing. As we recently acquired a new FEI Themis Z Cs-corrected S/TEM, this was the perfect topic for me to use for my presentation.
This is the raw, unedited, uncut, and uncensored (ha ha) version that I actually gave (albeit virtually) so you are seeing the presentation and hearing me as I actually gave it!
In the presentation, I discuss the origins of Cs (spherical aberration) in scanning/transmission electron microscopy, how to correct Cs, the neat things we can do with Cs-corrected S/TEM, and the few (but notable) associated drawbacks.
Please note that this is not a tutorial type video (though eventually I will be making plenty of those regarding our new tool); it's more of a fundamentals/overview/introductory type video.
Thanks for watching; please like, share, and let me know if you have any questions or comments!
the oxidation state mapping is crazy. I had experience with a Jeol 2100F but that was another level. thanks.
Yes indeed; it is quite amazing what Cs probe correction has enabled (or at least made much easier) in terms of improvements in analytical capabilities!
Dear Nicholas,
Great job.
Please continue and never give up.
Your tutorials are really informative.
Regards
Thank you!
Hello Nicholas. Thank you again for informative video. I owe my microscopy skills to your videos. Thickness measurement...an addition to my list of requested topics. Thank you again.
Hi Rahul: ah yes, thickness measurements! Would definitely be a good video to do.
Wow, I have just noticed your channel. It looks great. Thank you so much for sharing these great videos and lectures. Hope they reach many TEM leaners!
This is a very clear and informative tutorial. Thank you so much for your effect.
You're welcome.
Very good. Thank you 👍
You're welcome!
Hello, Nicholas. Thank you so much for your channel! It is so helpful for many researchers. Have you considered making a video about tuning Cs probe corrector? Thank you a lot!
Hi Alexander: glad to hear my channel is helpful for you. Yes, a video about tuning the corrector would be a good idea, since this is something I've recently grown more comfortable doing myself. Is this something you are trying to perform yourself?
@@NicholasRudawski yes, I try to perform it but I wouldn't say that I can do it effortlessly :)
Nice 👍
Thanks, glad you liked it.
