    I really like your videos, they are very helpful.
    Here I would like to point out you can clearly see it's a female face BEFORE you even add the eyes and other details (4:20)... AND also at the very end when you remove those features again 😮😉
    I need to focus on that more in my own sculptures: to go strictly from big shapes to details and not skip back and forth 😬

      Hey thanks! yeah I think beginners often neglect the overall structure of the head and that's actually where a lot of the likeness comes from.

      Yeah Utah was just too crazy expensive for what we wanted for our first home. Hopefully we'll be back before long. How did the event go?

    new to portrait sculpting and found this super helpful and detailed, thank you so much! I do have a question about the type of clay - do you have any content around the different type of clay or is it all totally personal preference?

      neverminnnnd. just saw it's in your course and a little short about it! you've got it all! :)

      Glad you found it! There's definitely advantages and disadvantages to different types of clay so it depends on what you want your workflow to be. For mold making I like a non-drying modeling clay like Chavant NSP medium. For baking in a normal oven I'll sculpt with aluminum foil and then finish with polymer clay like sculpey, and if you have access to a kiln then natural clay like terracotta can work great for portraits so you can fire them and have a finished sculpture as hard as stone. Let me know if you have other questions! @@breenafain4531

      Chavant nsp medium for this one

      Would it be better to use hard instead of medium?

    • @AndrewJosephKeith
      @AndrewJosephKeith  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hard is like wax. Good for small sculptures.

    How much clay did you use for this sculpture? I’ve never used this type of clay. Can I still do this technique with regular drying clay?

    • @AndrewJosephKeith
      @AndrewJosephKeith  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I probably used around 4-6 lbs for this one. Yeah you can use other types of clay with this technique.

      Quite costly ....... for beginners it's too costly .....you can use it one time only ...... I use clay that costs 2 dollars only but that sticks to hands that's a problem...... my sculpting work - th-cam.com/video/v5yyLgdPaU8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mDse5mYu7U7XPImI
