    Ah the good old days. I grew up in the 80s. Going to the movies, mall, and arcade. Catching fireflies above the stadium in Serra Mesa. Listening to B100 and Q106 and making mix tapes recording off the radio. Going to La Jolla Shores and boogie boarding. If I would've known the 70s, 80s, and early 90s would be the best decades ever, and that the world would eventually turn into what it is now, I would've enjoyed those times so much more and gone out and done even more. I wish I could go back, even for a day or a week and just walk around and experience it again.

      I totally resonate with your comment bro, I moved here in 2001 when I was 11 and the changes I’ve seen since then bum me out. Although to be fair, folks who lived here in the 40s 50s and 60s would probably say the same thing about your time there.

      Yep, I grew up in the 70s 80s in Serra Mesa, went John Paul Jones , Taft, Kearney High. I used to ride my bike to the bay from there fish. Don't remember fire flies though.

      Did you "Q in your car?" Remember that Q106 bumper sticker? I worked a few blocks from Jack Murphy Stadium in 1984 and was able to score 4 tickets to each of the NL playoff series between the Padres and the Cubs. Each day the stadium reserved a block of 100 seats to the first 100 people to show up at the ticket window at random times each day of the playoff series. I even made 4 custom silk-screen jerseys with the trademark "padre" clubbing the stuffing out of a small "Cubs" teddy bear. It said "CLUB THE CUBS!" While walking thru the stadium parking lot before the winning game, I caught San Diego KFMB 8 Larry Himmel snorting a big fat line of cocaine from a hand-held mirror in the front passenger seat of some VIP's Lambo. He looked up at me with a goofy grin on his face. 20 years later, he became my neighbor in 4S Ranch. Then he died of cancer 10 years later. Sad. And you're right. The world is going to crap and America has become a 3rd world 💩🕳.

      @@silentmajority8365There was plenty of diversity at this time. There just wasn't social media. Thats what messed it up.

    We lived in San Marcos in 1987-1989. It was heavenly ❤

      San Marcos is a great town. I remember in the early 70’s living in Vista and my cousins lived in San Marcos and it seemed like such a hick town. I’d give anything g to go back.

    Yet I was one of the few taxi drivers that drive there and pick people up and take them to the airport. A lot of great memories driving to and through RSF AND Encinitas and Solana Beach

    I was in high school when this vid was made. I still go to these beaches. I look exactly the same too. Lol

    I grew up in Serra Mesa in the 70s and 80s. This place had a small town vibe and truly was paradise. As time goes on and San Diego declines it becomes much harder to watch vids like these. I miss the Red City and the Red State of California. Its just gone downhill since it turned Blue.

    I have very good memories of San Diego in the 80s and am a sucker for nostalgia, but having watched many videos in this series of archival stories, what's striking are the communities that don't seem to be covered, like San Diego's African-American and Latino communities. If I've missed that coverage, please set me straight.

    • @johnbeckwith1361
      @johnbeckwith1361 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We didn't have those communities unless you want to visit a poor crime ridden area and I don't consider those "communities". You are referring to a time when blacks would not work retail. Didnt go to college. Gang activity was strong. People getting killed for their shoes for instance. I worked at a home depot back then. We had 3 black people working there and had a black store manager for awhile. Not much to cover. If you want to learn about "community" in San Diego that is the last thing to do.
