    Around age 33 my insulin amount had to be dramatically decreased. I was on around 40 units of Lantus at night and 1 unit of novolog per 10 carbs. No joke I started having such bad lows that I was having seizures in my sleep from the really bad lows, when years before that it was the right amount for me. So my diabetic doctor told me to slowly decrease my Lantus until I wasn't going low 30-40 times in a day. Well I had to drop it dramatically to 8 units of Lantus and 1 unit of novolog for 25 carbs. And I'm very proud to say that my A1c is beautiful at 5.5 with shots with a pen and my Dexcom G6 and now the Dexcom G7 (I liked the G6 better so I am going back to it!). Has any other Type one diabetics had this happen to them to or is it just me lol???? I've had type one since I was 11 years old and I'm now 37 years old.

      I was 14 when I got T1D and now 40 years later I have decreased my insulin amount, I use Loop & G6 since 7 days and are around 25 units a day, breakfast, big lunch and dinner. Mine has decreased more since going with pump&loop since my A1c is much better. Do not know why but could it be since ours A1c is much better the insulin amount drops so much? I know it's exponential curve the ISF and blodsugar.

    I was diagnosed in 1992 and we counted sugars in foods since labels were not what they are today.
    I wish my educators were like Mary Rose and know about fat and protein. I went to mine because egg whites were raising my sugar and she said that is new to me. I said its a protein. She said not reallly and it shouldn't raise you. Never went back to her.

    how do you handle the different glycemic indices of food in iAPS? In Loop, it was quite easy, in iAPS, I pretend like long-lasting carbs are protein or fat. how do you do it?

      I don't have enough experience yet to tell ya what I've been doing...currently I log them as the same which feels so weird! I'm so used to the glycemic controls of Loop.

    Do you have particular apps or ways that you LOG down your data??
    Can you show us samples of what a good LOG looks like so I can emulate it
    And learn

      I tend to use the Notes app on my phone. Figwee and myfitnesspal have food diaries!

    I need to contact a diabetic educator I usually have night time highs my endo doesn’t communicate with me I’m lost?

    Sorry but this kind of cherry picked half truth nutritional info (which then borders into misinformation) is why I can't be bothered with many "educators" and dietitians! They can't help pushing one particular agenda, and more often than not, it's not the optimal one to add insult to injury! But to be fair, at least she is acknowledging (somewhat) the role of protein as it relates to insulin needs. As well as the fact that fat has an impact too (although poorly explained)! Well, that's a start, right?

      I agree. Who counts vegetables and yogurt as carbs? It’s true they have a few carbs but not categorized as carbs in any system I’ve ever seen. Except maybe a potato. Protein and fat can affect BG but in a different way. I was feeling bad that I didn’t have an educator but this podcast made me realize I could do a better job on my own. You shouldn’t treat all people the same as we’re all individuals and I think it’s awful to wait a year before you refine carb counting. Also, although I’m sure all the things she mentioned affect your BG in some way, but I thought your insulin to carb ratio was dependent on how much insulin you are still producing. Over time my ratio has changed quite a bit and my endo tested my c-peptide and I’m no longer making insulin.

      @Gypsy218 exactly! I seem to be in the process of loosing insulin production gradually myself, although I haven't gotten a positive antibodies result yet. C-peptide keeps lowly dropping, or maybe not so lowly. I started with 5u of Tresiba, and not even 6 months later I'm up 12u just to stay on

      Most yogurts in the United States have added sugars (sometimes a significant amount), so people should absolutely be paying attention to the amount of carbs in there. & all dairy contains sugar regardless
