    Melissa, your channel has shown me a path to self-love. My parents were very loud, combative, and attention seeking-They bullied me for my mild temperament. All the love and support you receive for being gentle, calm, and methodical has helped me accept myself by seeing that it’s okay to be those things. We didn’t have any plants or living things in the house, so I didn’t have confidence at first. But watching you makes me feel like I have the potential to be a wonderful gardener just like you.

    It’s really nice to watch plant channels that show their “ugly” plants, not just the instagram worthy ones. It helps me know that I’m not the only one struggling with pests and that plants can bounce back. Thank you for your content ❤

    I really enjoyed watching this video and I must say the timing couldn't have been better. Since moving back up North, I have been struggling with my plants, and it's been really frustrating. My once stunning plant collection has become a sorry sight, and it's disheartening. In Raleigh, I didn't have any trouble with my plants, but now I feel like I can't get anything right.
    Plants have become an important part of my life. They have helped me stay sober, and built my confidence and self-esteem, and losing thousands of dollars in plants due to struggling with them is really discouraging. It's even more frustrating when I go on social media and see everyone else's plants thriving, and I feel like I'm the only one who can't seem to get it right.
    Watching this video was exactly what I needed to see. It's a reminder that no one's plants are perfect and that everyone struggles with something. Even the beautiful plant collections we see on social media are not immune to problems. This realization is a huge relief, and it's given me hope that I can still turn things around.
    I'm grateful for this video and I hope to see more like it. It's important to acknowledge that plant care can be challenging, but it's also rewarding, and we can learn from each other's experiences.

    Comment #2 today. I wanted to tell you that one of the most important plantology lessons I’ve learned from you is to not give up on plants when they are struggling, especially when they first start to struggle. Experience, knowledge, common sense and perseverance can often save the day. I definitely learned this from you and as a result I am more confident in my plantology abilities. Thanks again.

      @@plantsbymelissa fyi, perhaps over 10 years ago there was an infestation of lady bugs (more accurately pumpkin beetles) in northern New England. Although greatly reduced, Many homes including ours still have too many beetles despite every effort to eradicate them. On the plus side of all the beetles, my plants do not suffer from pests. In quite a few years of owning plants I have had just a single one suffer from pests. Thank you beetles for your voracious appetites but please leave my house and don’t slam the door on your way out.

    I have struggle so much with Alocasia. I use my own soil mix which is fairly similar to yours and my Alocasia absolutely hate it. All of them were corms that I rooted myself in moss and as I transferred them to soil, they rotted within 1-2 days from the transfer. I tried it multiple times and the same thing happened to all, Frydek, Black Velvet, Polly, you name it. I have now fully transferred them to a mix of moss, perlite, and orchid bark and I fertilize them with Fish Emulsion and they're doing pretty good! Moss has proven to be the substrate that works for me!

    I agree with you Fluval is not cheap but still amazing stuff so to stretch it i only add alittle fluval to what ever im propping in, 2 weeks ago i repotted my alocasia sarian and found 5 corms so i used perlite with a little fluval mixed in to prop the corms and all of them are growing, ive learned that with fluval i only need to add alittle bit and it still does the job, i also prop in perlite and add a little bit of worm castings and that works great as well

    I recently bought a Thai constellation off fb marketplace that I suspected was potted in Sol Soils just due to how it looked. I left it alone for about a month, just so I wouldn't disturb it, but I was smelling some rot. Sure enough, I unpotted it this past weekend and the center of the soil was still very wet even after a month! Luckily it has a very extensive root system and not much had rotted yet but I will not buy that soil ever... I'll continue to make my own mix 🌿

      I've been slowly trying to repot the plants out of it and doing some off camera and I keep finding rot even the ones I mixed with my own. It's just concentrated around the center from the calcined clay particles I believe is what's causing it. I've had some plants in it since last summer and now I know why some haven't been at their best lately. I think overtime it settles as you water and they have been slowly declining which is so sad. I'll never use anything else on my plants again. I wished I never supported them.

      @jpgypsyxo ปีที่แล้ว

      Man, you really aren’t the first person I’ve seen that’s having all the issues from flat mites and sulfur treatments. I’m so confused because it seemed to be working for everyone in the beginning. Like, I’m wondering if the sulfur took care of the pests quick, but caused more long term damage. It seems that everyone I s it’s all pretty much saying it’s root rot, so maybe the sulfur burned the roots when rinsing it and watering after? Idk but that’s super disappointing I luckily didn’t have a flat mite problem at all, just s spider mite outbreak on one syngonium that I had to chop back the leave, but kept the stems to activate the auxiliary buds. it’s already coming in nicely.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, I didn't do much research on sulfur and only used it based off other recommendations for treatment. My marantas and calatheas are really the only plants that had them minus a hoya and they're already a sensitive plant genus so it definitely stressed them. I switched to using azamax and it seemed to work well.

    • @jpgypsyxo

      @@plantsbymelissa that’s good! I’ve only ever used 1/2 water 1/2 rubbing alcohol. And then rinse and follow up with neem oil and never had an issue thus far! The alcohol basically destroys the exoskeletons of most common houseplants so the basically die in their tracks.
