I have gotten my grandson watching your videos because as his memaw there are just certain things I can get him to listen to me and I want him to enjoy fishing as much as I do. And to do so I want him to learn correctly instead of this macho, rippin, rushin style so many videos do. Thank you for the relaxing way you fish and the care you show for the lifestyle.
I've done the same with my grandboys, I'll be sitting around reeling up watching Richard and they'll come out and watch too.

In my 28 years, I've caught tons of catfish, but I can only remember catching 2 flatheads in my whole life. One of them I caught was on an electric grape Powerbait bass worm when I was fishing for bass. It was a hot summer day, and the water was low on the lake, so there wasn't hardly any cover on the bank anywhere. Managed to actually find 1 log that went down into the water, and I casted up against it. Only felt one little bump a second or two after it hit the water. I must've thrown it right in front of his face.
Guts u will have more luck catching flatheads with live bait. Bluegill shad skipjack etc
@@goodrums That's what I've always heard. I never really got around to trying it on the river that I fished, but I've tried live perch out on the lake with jugs with my dad and uncle many times. We only caught 3 flatheads out of all the catfish that we caught with jugs and live perch. We don't have skipjack here in Oklahoma, or at least in my area of Oklahoma.
I'm willing to bet that part of my problem is location. My friend went gigging in the small river below that lake a year or so ago and claimed that he saw a lot of big flathead in a section of that river. But I've been too unhealthy to go fishing the last couple of years.
Only flathead I ever caught was about two pounds and ate a red shad zoom curly tail worm Texas rig fishing for bass. I was about twelve years old. I’m about thirty now and have been fishing for catfish for three years on the very same lake. I only catch channels and blues now.
If you watch kayak cat fishing he catches more flatheads on cutbait and big blues on live bait that will blow your mind. I always caught my big flatheads on big live bream myself

I'm new to this type of fishing. Been commercial fishing most my life. Caught some as big as your boat but that's beside the point. I'm now living on Forsyth Missouri and by watching your video's I'm learning how to catch them in land fish. Thanks
You’re right about big blues hitting tiny baits. I fought and landed a 14lb blue on ONE cricket and an ultra light spinning rig. It was probably more luck than anything that he didn’t bust my junk all to pieces.

He was using worms and dead minnows. I used live minnows and had nothing.

That is the smallest flathead I have ever seen too cute also I love freshwater drum all u have to do it fillet it white flaky meat not boney at all
Fresh water drum meat is pretty much the same as a bass. Good eating.

I agree about the eagle claw circle sea hooks,I use them alot for targeting smaller catfish, but for bigger cats I use the eagle claw 7228's ,mustad demon circle,or the gamakatsu hooks.another smaller hook I've been trying is the owner mutu-light circle hook,their not to bad ,but they are a little more expensive than the eagle claw circle sea hooks.i value your catfishing videos tips and advice

Gotta catch some Catfish this year ,You mentioned a six-pack of circle hooks at Wall-Mart for $1.99 , a good price . Then I remembered past Cat-fishing trips , for $1.99 a six-pack of Sharps Beer for shoreline fishing , we all did catch some Catfish back then , tight-line fishing .
Now them size blues are good to eat but now them channel cats I don’t care much about ( wild or farm raised)! But now them small Flatheads are best eatin’ Catfish, I think anyway! Good fishing Richard, absolutely great 👍 I love it!!!

Nc Hemi do you eat drum? If so how do you prepare them?
M Watkins here in n.c. we prepare them the same way you cook largemouth bass either fry it or grill it. When I grill it we cook the fish whole head and all get ridof the stomach and guts. Clean it good make sure you cut out the bad meat soak it in buttermilk for about 2hrs. Rinse it off season it real good feel it with peppers and onions add some butter wrap in foil and put in the oven or grill . Oh yea I forget when cleaning it go inside the head an get the Pearl's out the head then after that you straight. We eat fish here skin on. Not everyone like it that way but we love it here

Well Yankees ain't all there anyways. Drums ain't good for bait they ain't good for eating most of the time they r thrown on the bank after there caught. I don't do it but fish don't even eat them if u think that's good bait imagine what u would catch with real bait

For sport , i like that. Here in california they use monster catfish poles for eater size hahah its sad. I like to use 12lb test for 20lb river salmon. Makes it super fun. I watch ur videos when i cant go fishing

I always thought some of the bigger fish I caught didn't taste as good as the smaller ones. It's been over 20 years since I've been fishing. I live on the Gulf Coast presently, and don't care for saltwater or brackish water fish too much. And allergic to shell fish! But moving back up north, with the Tennessee River 15 minutes from my house. I have been gathering gear, and watching vids to refresh my memory. I'll be buying fishing license' for Alabama and Tennessee, since I'm closer to Nickajack in Tennessee, than I am to the Tennessee River in Alabama. But I intend to fish in both states.
Not only do those larger ones taste worse, when the water gets warm all the fish are more mushy and have a stronger flavor. I usually only harvest during the winter and spring and sometimes late fall

Those drum are good eatin when their small like that. We call em goo or goo fish down here in Louisiana. Blackened grilled or fried the small ones are good.
