There is more practical sword play here in 5 minutes than hours of other stuff have seen on TH-cam

I've practiced the real Dadao about close to four pound. They were useful against bayonet/rifle attacks. The rifle/bayonet is about 11 pounds and is effective but slower than a spear trust. So using a dadao one could effectively block/trap a trust and counter effectively. Great close in weapon, very effective.

    Great video.
I would really enjoy more application videos of different weapons.
On youtube there are mostly wushu forms, but I'm more interested to see these weapons in real practical application.

Too happy to see this! This is definitely much more practical than those in wushu.
Wish that it would become a combat sport one day, in which competitors, in full protection gear, could have full contact fights with wooden weapons (saber Vs saber, saber Vs spear/rifle with bayonet), like fencing, kendo but of Chinese characteristics.
The Chinese martial arts style footwork and change of stances could be retained in demonstration as a respect for tradition but should be simplified and modernized in interactive practices and competitions.

yes it is. wushu was very practical. However, some stupid people have changed the moves to meet the requirement of wushu competitions. That is why wushu now is more like dances

Very good video!!! But I sae a little flaw in the excecution in some techniques. For example at 3:17 and at 3:05 because youre not holding the contact to the opponents weapon. Your saber is too far from the opponents weapon away. That would cause an attack where you have to figure out to block it from right OR left. If you would block like in the form but make a step forward youre standing in the right distance and you only have to cover one side. But the rest was absolutely gorgeous.

If you have a spear, u will be foolish to charge straight on against someone with a sword. Better to jab from a far, make good use of your length advantage. Make multiple feign jabs to tired him out. Moving a real sword around to block will be tiring.

      ..................

....Practical? Not really, remove the silly footwork and sword spinning first.

    • @dongf2618
      @dongf2618 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

it is practical. First of all, the "silly" footwork is used to avoid being hit by the bayonet. Secondly, it is not a sword. It is a Dao and it was used during the second world war against armies that didn't wear armor. This is the standard fighting technique used by the Chinese army during the second world war (lack of guns) for close combat and it is called At the battle of 喜峰口 the Chinese army used these techniques against the Japanese and achieved initial victories. The sword spinning is very important because Dao is heavy and it's supposed to cut and the spinning adds strength to the cut.

Practical? The Japanese Imperial Army thought so.
