Thanks so much for this video! Tap was leaking for a couple of weeks and now it's fixed for less than a fiver from Screwfix for a compatible cartridge 😊. Also, thanks for replying to a previous comment by someone else. I had the same trouble getting the top lever off - it was stuck fast - but I followed your advice by putting hot water over it, then I whacked it upwards with a wooden rolling pin and that loosened it enough to come off. All sorted within a short part of the afternoon! By the way, I rarely ever comment on TH-cam but you deserve praise for your excellent advice. 🙌
Thanks so much for this... I'd NEVER have thought of looking for that wee grub screw under the temperature marker, and it's such a straightforward job once you're in there.
Excellent video and explanation, thank you. Plumbing not my strength but this enabled me to fix leaky tap that has been bothering the Mrs for ages. Had to screw brass ring on quite hard to avoid a fountain :)
I have the exact same problem & 1st thought you have to remove the entire tap from the sink which would've been very complex & uncomfortable to remove. The guy at the hardware did tell me it was that blue thingy that was faulty but never knew the temperature markers had only to be removed which makes it much more easier. Thx for the video. You've been very helpful

Thanks, Mate. Brilliant video 'how to do'. Twice I have followed it to take out and clean the cartridge of my kitchen tap, when it started to leak. When I replaced it, both times, the leak stopped, problem fixed. I guess the cartridge had shifted a little out of place (even with the lugs), causing the leak, so when replaced it was fixed. 😀✔️😀
Great video. Sorted this little job yesterday. But only after finding a replacement cartridge online - the one I had was apparently not very common. In any case, job sorted. Thanks.
My part came today. Took ages to find and was one of the most expensive valves. £ 21-40 . The others seem to be around £ 5. Fitted today and works well. Thanks.

Perhaps try this first before replacing cartridge. Remove the three-hole valve on the cartridge and replace it using the other side, that is, turn it upside down and replace it. Put cartridge back and tighten the nut. Leak stopped. I wonder if this 'three o-ring' valve can be bought by itself.
I'm sure I've already answered this, but the comment seems to have been deleted by TH-cam AGAIN. Just isolate the incoming main water supply under the sink, that should stop the hot and cold water ;-)

Hi great video. But with me, its like always my bad luck - nothing goes easy. I have spent hours trying to remove or loose the small grub screw. Its so hard to see inside the hole and to know what size allen key to us.
Thank you for sharing, mine has two shrouds, one on either side that are shielding the nut, can the cartridges be holding the shrouds on as well as I cant get a box spanner to fit them. thank you in advance.

If the holes in the cartridge are in the correct place, it must be a faulty cartridge? I've never once had a problem like that 🤔 I hope you get it sorted 👍
Thanks for the video, it's very clear, however when I've replaced the cartridge I no longer have any hot water. I read some comments elsewhere suggesting that I'd put the cartridge in the wrong way round, but I've put it in with the lugs in the locating holes so not sure how else it should go in. Any suggestion would be appreciated!

I would require your help with the issue where the rotatory spout is having a leak. So when I move the spout from right to left or left to right it is leaking at both the upper and lower joints. How to open and fix the rubber washers.?
Great video and thanks for your expertise . Followed your video and successfully changed cartridge but still same issue and tap is leaking , the leak is just like in your video, maybe I got a faulty new cartridge?
After removing the old cartridge I noticed the cavity started to fill slowly with water. I replaced with new cartridge but water still seaps out. Is the entire mixer tap stuffed?
Hi. I replaced the cartridge but my mixer tap continues to leak at the joint where the cartridge housing screws into the top of the spout. There doesn't appear to be a washer or o-ring between the two. Any advice?
The O ring is normally on the bottom of the cartridge. If tightening the large nut does not fix the leak, it might be time for a new tap. Unfortunately the build quality on these taps is not great! A few months after changing the cartridge in this tap, it started leaking and had to be replaced- th-cam.com/video/N-MyYzYwEhc/w-d-xo.html&t
I have that same leak. But also my tap is dripping water at a slow pace. Could they be linked? Wondering if I just do what you did to start, then see if it fixes the other problem.
My mixer tap is leaking from the bottom of the middle section, or the top of the tap bit. I've disassembled as far as this video goes, but can't figure out how to get the middle section released. Any suggestions?
Sometimes, you are better off replacing the whole tap- th-cam.com/video/N-MyYzYwEhc/w-d-xo.html&t The tap in the video started leaking a couple of months after the cartridge was replaced, so a new tap was fitted!
This is the reply I was hoping to see. I have a brand new faucet used for about 20 days which leaks when flexed at the tap. I hope that the large brass screw just needs tightening down plus perhaps a dab of silicone grease on the o rings. I had a plumber fit it about a year ago in an apartment not often used.
Great video, I'm stuck at the initial step taking the grub screw out. Looking in to the tap just looks like a hole, tried a number of different size allen keys and one felt like it was catching to undo but no luck the handle is still on tight. Frustrating as the rest looks easy to do
@@ultimatehandyman having the exact same issue as this. It looks as if the grub hasn't been in, so in theory the lever should pop off, but it's not moving for love nor money. Either that or the grub screw isn't catching the hex at all. Any suggestions for either problem?

Mine is slightly leaking at the very base where it joins the sink. Nothing dripping from higher up, and under the sink it's all bone dry with both lines tight. What might cause this please?
Not sure about that, all the taps I have serviced, have a grub screw holding the lever on. Perhaps if you could identify the make of tap and try and find instructions?
😢is there any fix to my tiny water jets out of the side of the big long part of the tap? Ir do I need to buy and have new kitchen sink tap fitted?please see previous comment for more in depth description thanks:)
You can normally just unscrew that part and get a new one, they are called a tap aerator, or sometimes a tap nozzle (faucet aerator if you are in the USA)
I have that tsp but it’s not leaking somewhere it shouldn’t. It’s dripping. I thought I would be replacing a washer but do I need to do what this video shows?
Thank you and thank you for the video. After asking my partner to do it resulting in me having to pay £50 for a plumber to fix the stop tap he made leak I found the right cartridge online and did it myself. 20 minutes, done! 💪🏻
Would have been great if people could have left links to places that sell these cartridges. I went to a few local merchants and all said the same thing "we've had lots of people over the years asking for these but they're old and we don't stock them, have a search for the part number or look on the internet". I'll end up just replacing the tap
Thank you so much for the video My tap is the same I have trouble turning it around it feel very tight. Can you tell me what I need to do please? Thank you so much 🙏
It might need stripping down, cleaning and re-assembling (which I have never done) Sometimes it is easier to get a new tap- th-cam.com/video/N-MyYzYwEhc/w-d-xo.html&t
If you are handy, the tap can be removed and disassembled including removing the rotating handle and cleaned, you can also soak parts in vinegar for an hour to remove lime, then there are 2 o-rings where the handle rotates, add some silicone grease to those o-rings when reassembling.
Thanks for sharing this. I had this issue with a tap that looks almost exactly the same, a Carron Phoenix. Their website referred to a spares outlet whose website had no information. I got a cartridge from E bay. I ended up making an educated guess as to which model tap I had and which cartridge was needed. Fortunately I guessed right! Curiously, I am now wondering if the right catridge was fiitted in the first place as the hot and cold water holes in the original cartridge are not circular, unlike the holes in the replacement and in the tap base.
You are welcome. Sometimes the shape of the sealing rings on the bottom is different. I guess it depends on what is available, I do know people that have found it easier to replace the tap rather than source a new cartridge! Thanks for the comment
Thanks! That solved our issue. As new home owners videos like this are absolute gold.

If it is anything like my sisters tap- you might need a new one. Her tap started leaking from the base and there did not seem to be a way to fix it 👍
@@ultimatehandyman I just stopped the leak myself by hand- tightening the bottom seal (above the sink).
What to do if the water is coming out of the tap no matter where you move the handle?
Thanks a lot... The video was very helpful 👍🏽
Hi mate do you think you have an idea why the lever or handle gets tight to lift up my family dont trust me enough to do it when I know I can
Not sure, perhaps there has been a build-up of limescale in the cartridge?
Is the tap dripping, or just stiff? 👍
What type of screw driver did you use to remove the cap. As you hid it with your hand. Was it a flat or a star? Please help
It was just a small flat bladed driver 👍
A well made video and very helpful, thank you ..but the top of the tap was siezed on so I had to replace it.
👍
Aup mate what size cartridge was it 35mm or 400mm. Cheers
I think it was 40mm, but I normally take it to the plumbers merchants 👍
What if there is no grub screw and the cap doesn't come off with a gentle pull?
Yes, if the tap is dripping from the spout, you need a new cartridge 👍
Thank you and thank you for the video. After asking my partner to do it resulting in me having to pay £50 for a plumber to fix the stop tap he made leak I found the right cartridge online and did it myself. 20 minutes, done! 💪🏻
Would have been great if people could have left links to places that sell these cartridges. I went to a few local merchants and all said the same thing "we've had lots of people over the years asking for these but they're old and we don't stock them, have a search for the part number or look on the internet". I'll end up just replacing the tap
There are loads of similar ones, so it's best to take it to a plumbers merchants to ensure you get the correct one 👍
What is the name of the part that you take to the plumbers merchants? the sound is missing from the video. Thank you
Sorry, it is a cartridge
Thanks for the comment 👍
Thank you for the video. I had the same problem and it really helped me to fix it.

I can’t see the grub screw , do you know what size the Allen key is ?
Cheers
It's only small, perhaps a 2.5mm or 3mm 👍
@@ultimatehandyman cheers buddy , great & informative vid
Red goes on the left, everywhere but New Zealand. Over there, they do what they please and everyone gets a free surprise about 20 times a day!
😂
Thank you so much for the video
My tap is the same I have trouble turning it around it feel very tight. Can you tell me what I need to do please? Thank you so much 🙏
It might need stripping down, cleaning and re-assembling (which I have never done)
Sometimes it is easier to get a new tap- th-cam.com/video/N-MyYzYwEhc/w-d-xo.html&t
If you are handy, the tap can be removed and disassembled including removing the rotating handle and cleaned, you can also soak parts in vinegar for an hour to remove lime, then there are 2 o-rings where the handle rotates, add some silicone grease to those o-rings when reassembling.
Are u using an allen key or what kind please tell, thanks
Yes, it's a metric Allen key, not sure of the size, but it's approximately 3mm
