      Yes! I feel secure because at any moment I can know I could downsize in size of living space significantly if I had to. We could also pack up and move anywhere fairly easily.

      Thanks so much C Mac, I'm very happy to hear that it's helpful :) Yes, you're right that usually we tend to put the focus on our belongings (or the lack of it), but our surrounding also plays a huge role in whether we feel at peace and therefore be more intentional with buying things.

    Going to be exciting to see your apartment, Anja. Love the colors you’ve chosen. Very calming for the mind. Although I’m married, I have my own room where I can feel at peace. My husband is not a minimalist and many times I just need time off to be in my own space. I think we all do need a space of our own if possible in a relationship. My husband has it too so that’s good for both of our mental healths. Your bunny is a total social butterfly! 🦋 Great video! 👍🌹💗

      Thanks so much :) Yes, I definitely agree with you. I also think it's important to have a space to be able to be alone sometimes and to be alone with our thoughts. For me it's necessary to recharge and I need quite some alone time haha ;) And I especially can understand it with regard of living with someone who is not a minimalist. For the last couple of months I have noticed that at certain times it can be overwhelming to be surrounded by more stuff than you would like to. I'm happy to hear that the both of you are fine with it and that you're doing what works out for you.

    Anja - do you have any thoughts/video on minimalist lighting in the home. I don't use 'overhead' lighting, and dont really put lights on - even in the bathroom. I use candles/mobile phone light. I'm like this with sound too; having as little sound as possible! I'm not sure this is 'minimalist'; but helps keep me focused and relaxed at home.😊👍

    Love your ideas, Anja. Have you ever thought of getting a bunny for your bunny?

    • @AnjasArtWorld
      @AnjasArtWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Jennifer, I really appreciate it. Also, your question and concerns about the rabbits is an important one. This topic of rabbits and their ancestors is nagging me for a while now. What I've been told and what I have experienced are two completely different things so I'm happy you bring it up and I would like to explain it and also hear your experiences and thoughts about it! :)
      So I do have two rabbits. (this is a video I made about my pets: th-cam.com/video/2LoWml2Pl64/w-d-xo.html) I have let myself being pressured by others into getting a rabbit for Olivia, and honestly I myself was convinced I just had to do it, that it's cruel to have a rabbit alone. Although it was very well intended advise, I really regret it and it made my situation and that of Olivia worse. She hates other animals and also rabbits, she can't stand them. It gives her so much stress, it's sad to see (she doesn't stop thumping, she hides and is all stressed out, not eating and drinking for days, and when they are in contact they fight so hard that they almost kill each other, and yes I did everything according to “the book” “the advice”: they are bot neutered, and it was a neutral space and so forth) She reacts very bad to all animals: Guinea pigs, cats, rabbits you name it. I'm not going to let her suffer or my other rabbit. I can see them both getting very territorial and aggressive. The other rabbit even almost lost a piece of his ear and got badly injured. And now I have to keep them separate and this means she gets less attention than I could give her before, because I have to divide my time and attention to the other rabbit as well. It's sad for her because she loves me and just all people in general so much, she was such a happy rabbit, always jumping, running, showing her belly when people are around (to let us know she feels safe). She's a real 'people animal'. And I now can give her less of that.
      So it made me think. Everybody in real life, all the information on the internet and my vets were telling me rabbits need to be with each other, they are 'social creatures', so I took that very seriously. And they really are social animals but they are domesticated so social for them is people just like it is for most of our pets in my humble opinion. And I remembered that every time I tried to bring rabbits together (my sister has one and I also tried her rabbit with Olivia and my other rabbit) they would fight and be stressed out. It doesn''t makes sense to me because if they need each other so much why do they all want to kill each other? And I know of people who keep two of them who kind of tolerate each other but also fight a lot. I know for sure that there are people who have two rabbits that are very happy together, and would hate it to be alone, but I just don't know of this in real life. Why don't my experiences match the narrative?
      For now I'm going to trust my intuition and my experiences over stories I have decided. I have this whole new approach to life and also science. Being aware that science constantly is progressing and getting new theories. Most of the things we believed 30 years ago we now have changed in science. So I'm very aware of this changing aspect and that everything is just what it is: just a theory. I've seen this drama with ferrets as well. Back in the day I had a ferret and there was this shift in opinion. Previously people pressured each other to keep at least 2 of them, then they found out ferrets are actually not social animals but solitaire (science changed their perspective about ferrets like 10 years ago) now everyone is pressuring each other to keep them separate, and there's kind of a war going on in the ferret community about social or solitary.
      All of our pets have been domesticated for hundreds of years, they have been evolved to be with humans, and they want human attention, and this is my experience with all my pets so far. I decided that I'm not going to put much emphasis on what their ancestors did or lived but really be focused at what I'm seeing and perceiving my pet needs and wants. And I do really care for their needs, and if they would want to have a buddy that would have been fine by me, but they really don't want that so I'm not going to pressure them.
      I'm very curious to your experiences with having two rabbits and how your rabbits are getting along with each other! :) Would like to hear your ideas and experiences!

    Thinking about getting rid of my bamboo couch. Any suggestions for a comfortable floor cushion that could replace that? Take care.
    P.S. Do you speak Dutch?

    • @AnjasArtWorld
      @AnjasArtWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeremy, I have bought the cushions on Etsy. And I don't have much comparing materials with other floor cushions but I wanted one without flame retardant and Etsy is a good place for that, so I can recommend looking there if that might be important for you too. To be honest it wasn't the most comfortable one, but otherwise pretty good. It also was a meditation cushion not a floor cushion. It's this one www.etsy.com/nl/listing/760323432/meditatie-set-zafu-zabuton-met-boekweit?ref=shop_home_feat_4&bes=1 I would maybe look into a thicker cushion like this one: www.etsy.com/nl/listing/739176132/donkergrijs-hennepvloerkussen-met?ref=shop_home_active_85&crt=1
      I personally found that sitting on the floor can start to feel a bit uncomfortable after a while and I was looking into some other options as well, like beanbags. Hope you can find a good one. You take care too!
      (En ja, ik spreek Nederlands! :))

    • @hiddingclover
      @hiddingclover 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnjasArtWorld Thank you very much for the extensive answer, I appreciate that.
      It's even greater that I can use both of them for meditation, which I practice daily.
      You know, I bought this bamboo couch to accommodate visitors but ironically, when people visit me, we usually go to the beach instead. Now its bulkiness is a source of anxiety to be honest, as I'm rather sensitive to external stimuli.
      It's such a relief to be freed from material possessions. Minimalism also blends very well with veganism in my opinion.
      Yes, having possessions that are chemical-free is also very important to me, both environmentally and healthwise.
      Wat leuk dat je Nederlands spreekt! Nederland is en blijft een van mijn favoriete bestemmingen. Groetjes uit Oostende.

    Didn't see a television. I stopped watching television about 9 years ago. It didn't provide anything useful or fullfilling for me. I watch You Tube and I find it can provide a lot of useful information. Furniture is so way overpriced and can really drain your resources and it's just more stuff to fill space. I spend time evaluating everthing I purchase. If I buy it now it's because it has satisfied all the questions of what,t is it's purpose? why do I need it? Is it worth my time and energy to maintain it? Does this item provide any benefits to my life?

    • @AnjasArtWorld
      @AnjasArtWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are very important questions you're asking yourself. I really love them, especially the 'worth our time and energy to maintain it' part. I think that one is almost always overlooked when we buy things, or just in this excessive consumerism mentality that we're living in. And yes, furniture really is so overpriced (!) and often useless (in the amount we accumulate/the keeping up with new trends and so forth, and it acquires a lot of maintenance from our part.) I think we long for connection and belonging rather than materials but we confuse that with the 'home decors' images we see all the time. That coziness that is portrayed through objects.
      I can really relate to your experience with televisions. I have never had one in my home either. Actually I just can't stand them, or just what's being showed on it. Almost to a degree that I feel sick when it's on. Here where I live now there is a television in the living room, luckily almost never turned on, but those few times there's a program on I immediately feel so drained, even when I just walk pass it. And although I like the idea of having something to empty the mind a bit in the evening and just relax, I also cannot do this with netflix I find, but that's just personal. Too much violence and just things that are so far from what I stand for. Makes me tired to watch it. I've tried Gaia for a while but somehow also did not like it that much for now at least. Just like you I also only watch TH-cam. I agree with you that I can find everything I need on it and I like it more than the other options. I can also choose what to watch and what not. I know that on YT there are some cringe worthy things as well, but I don't have to watch it and the algorithm luckily doesn't show too much of it to me.

    • @freeatlast9741
      @freeatlast9741 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnjasArtWorld Yes. Totally agree with everything you have said. YT can be full of negativity and bad information as well. You have to discard the bad and find what's good for you. I agree the TV can make me ill as well. There is one in this house but I don't look at it and avoid it as much as possible. I'd rather be out observing nature. Or spend time on much more rewarding activities. Yes, connection with people is more important and I think society as a whole is loosing that connection because they are stuck in front of the TV consumed by mindless entertainment and fantasy land. Yes it probably is okay to just get lost in fantasy for a while and let go of the constantly thinking mind. We have to find balance in that regard. This consumer culture is really causing a lot of problems but I try to focus on myself and keeping a good attitude despite what's going on externally. I hope everything goes well with your new place.
