I visited Galveston recently all the buildings in the background were completely destroyed and fell into the ocean. Galveston has bounced back now and getting better everyday.
I've been living in Galveston 40 years and until Ike, have never seen the seawall topped. The seawall is built 16 feet above mean sea tide, so, no joke, the surge really was that high...
It was the early 60s I was just a little kid.I have a photo of me & Frank with my dad taken on the seawall. I was hugging his leg.Got the chance to see him in Vegas in 1980 took my photo & got him to sign it & he said he remembered me "because I pinched his leg"I know he lied but...its Frank ...a real cool dude ..great memory
id like to explain that there is a sea wall at galveston, where you see the waves breaking in the vid. the seawall is well over 10 foot, and the water is normally back out 30 foot, to 20 yards.. in other words, this water is scary high, and deep. had he fallen over the side, or been pulled over by returning tide, there would be no saving him.
lol I love how you just hear this sudden thud and a bit of a black blur at the bottom of the camera view :P I thought we'd actually get to see him wipe out though O:
no, there still there, except the balinese room and flagship hotel, but murdochs is still there. I don't remember the balinese room or flagship hotel bc I was 2 when Ike hit but i did stay there.
I was listening to this on Fox News on XM Radio when it happened....I had to see it with my own two eyes.....vintage Geraldo. Maybe he can find Capone's treasure buried on Galveston beach
Later that night, he made an even bigger fool of himself when he reported on live TV that the wind speed where he was standing was blowing at 129 MPH, when it was actually only blowing at 15 MPH. Talk about Media Hype! My God! Get Real Man!
The only thing left of the old Balinese is an arch made of old wood on the seawall. I watched this classic piece of history die...I was sitting in a fire truck. It happened really fast.I cried .Back in the day Frank Sinatra rubbed my head in the hallway & my dad said "I hope you rubbed some of your talent into that kid" he didn't
Mmm, good point, lol. Still....Getting a shot of Geraldo Rivera falling over in Hurricane Ike...priceless. Get your gold member... lol I still like Geraldo because he's hilarious to watch!
Galveston water is nasty and salty and has a lot of oil and trash in it. I use to swim there as a kid and I'd get little spots of oil that would last for days. But it's fun though.
I laughed my ass off when I saw this. What made it even better was that it happened to him here in Texas. He's one person I (and probably ALOT of other people) wouldn't miss if a hurricane took him with it.
I Was In Austin During This But I Have To Admit That Is Funny But I Evacuated .. NO WAY Am I Gonna Stay Put During A Hurricane OH NO ... My House Survived This Thing Too And Its Like 20 Minutes Away =/ Coming Home 3 Weeks Later Was Insane!!!
Wow, really? Thats crazy that you actually met him, when was that then? The 60s? I know the Balanese Room was notorious for gambling and not many people know that before they cracked down on gambling all throughout the US, Hot Springs, AR, and Gavleston were 2 of the largest gambling meccas in the US. Then Vegas kinda took over.
Geraldo gets reunited with an old ABC colleague. I hear that John Stossel is joining FOX! It's a great marriage. Stossel and Fox. His libertarian/conservative views will be more appreciated there.
tell me about it... if we go north-northeast we get snow storms... south-southeast we get hurricanes... mid-usa there are tornadoes... and west there are earthquakes... its not safe anywhere!!! -.-
Haha!!! That's fuc#!ng funny!!! He tried to play it off all cool & sh*t!!! Haha!!! Geraldo Rivera should get a "National News Most Embarrassing Moment Award" for this... LMFAO!!!
Just visited Galveston. Murdoch's (a gift shop / old bathhouse) just reopen last year. The Balinese Room is gone and no sign of it being rebuilt.
I visited Galveston recently all the buildings in the background were completely destroyed and fell into the ocean. Galveston has bounced back now and getting better everyday.
Murdochs still stands
@@nottawa86new Building
I'm glad some people got it, I'm fairly young so I hope most people would have at least heard of it.
he's now immortalized by his nose broken, now its solidified by his live blunder during ike
The fireman warned him not 10 seconds earlier. This is more embarrassing than Al Capone's vaults :-D
My uncle is one of the firemen here and I still think this video is the funniest thing
I've been living in Galveston 40 years and until Ike, have never seen the seawall topped. The seawall is built 16 feet above mean sea tide, so, no joke, the surge really was that high...
Wow... I can't believe the Balinese Room is no longer there. I performed a set there just a week before Ike took it away. Incredible.
It was the early 60s I was just a little kid.I have a photo of me & Frank with my dad

This is pure gold I dont understand how anyone else missed this!!
lol I love how you just hear this sudden thud and a bit of a black blur at the bottom of the camera view :P I thought we'd actually get to see him wipe out though O:
i think the fact that the firefighter cameback and laugh about it makes it funnier
Nice that amid all the misery, Ike left us this little gem.
Yeah, thats too bad. Most of those piers and buildings that once lines the wall are all gone :( I hope at some point they rebuild it.
3 years later and this is still funny.
Lol, one of the guy's said. Dude get your ass out of here
Geraldo predicted a few hours ago that he would in up on TH-cam here. For he commented on the wave knocking him down.
I hope he said goodbye to all those historically places, because they were gone 12 hours later.
no, there still there, except the balinese room and flagship hotel, but murdochs is still there. I don't remember the balinese room or flagship hotel bc I was 2 when Ike hit but i did stay there.
Geraldo made a comment about the water being "filthy"? That because he was standing in it. Now I know why there was a fish kill ...
I was listening to this on Fox News on XM Radio when it happened....I had to see it with my own two eyes.....vintage Geraldo. Maybe he can find Capone's treasure buried on Galveston beach
Best moment live tv ever!
Never a shark around when you need one.
Wow, 2 stormy!!!
I was in this hurricane and almost all of those buildings behind him was completely gone after ike.
You should see him now TxStoryTeller. He's standing up in 100 MPH winds. he's definitely trying to become an hero
Later that night, he made an even bigger fool of himself when he reported on live TV that the wind speed where he was standing was blowing at 129 MPH, when it was actually only blowing at 15 MPH. Talk about Media Hype! My God! Get Real Man!
The Balinese Room was totally destroyed. The piers in the background totally destroyed.
some of the last shots of the Balinese Room, about 10 hours later--gone forever
I know, so sad :( I was 2 when this happened and although I don't remember it, I know I saw it.
Geraldo goes down on IKE!
i was also in the navy... for 12 years

he owe his life to his funny looking mustache
YAY GERALDO!
At 12:02 PM Geraldo and his mustache passed away RIP Geraldo
With 135 to 145 winds
I know! I feel bad for him! I dont know why people make fun of him so much!
The only thing left of the old Balinese is an arch made of old wood on the seawall.
I watched this classic piece of history die...I was sitting in a fire truck. It happened really fast.I cried .Back in the day Frank Sinatra rubbed my head in the hallway & my dad said "I hope you rubbed some of your talent into that kid" he didn't
merry christmas
Rivera handled that better than the Al Capone's Vaults debacle. XD
those fire men ran all the way over there just to laugh in his face.
You embarrased me in front of a REPORTER!!! Geraldo to wave.
no, that's galveston. I've been there.
So freaking sad.
Whatever Geraldo was looking for in Al Capone's vault washed up on shore.
lol, i heard about the fall... my parents saw it when it happened live. figured i'd find it on youtube.
This might just be me being parinoid, but did anyone else notice how a company called "MURDOCHS" was advertised in the background?
That night of live reporting was some of the funniest tv I have ever watched! Back when I used to watch Fox News just for a laugh.
75 precent of the island was flooded after the storm
Mmm, good point, lol. Still....Getting a shot of Geraldo Rivera falling over in Hurricane Ike...priceless. Get your gold member... lol
I still like Geraldo because he's hilarious to watch!
He tripped over Al Capones vault
OMG you can hear all the people in the studio rolling
lmfaooo >D
Positive vibes to all those riding this hurricane out. good luck.:)
Geraldo took a chair to the nose and TOOK IT! He can take it!
@Avatarblackwolf "you loot we shoot" ....we had our backs.....
WOW, Hurricane IKE is now my hero
geraldo vs ike, awesome;next:vs chuck norris! would be a great sequel.
Geraldo broke Willowbrook. If for nothing else, he deserves some kindness.
Nature created Ike to take out Geraldo's moustache.
I didn't hear that--where?
good shit
Galveston water is nasty and salty and has a lot of oil and trash in it. I use to swim there as a kid and I'd get little spots of oil that would last for days. But it's fun though.
He had it coming.
Jerry Springer owes alot to Geraldos old show
Great scoop ressorpr,I hope you don't mind if I post this to my page.
I saw this live, couldn't stop laughing. Thanks for posting this so fast.
I laughed my ass off when I saw this. What made it even better was that it happened to him here in Texas. He's one person I (and probably ALOT of other people) wouldn't miss if a hurricane took him with it.

I love Firefighters
Its relevant to Geraldo, I know him from the vault and his crazy talk show he used to have. I'm barely older than you so you may have been viable
Fire that camera man for missing that! Why was he not aiming at Geraldo?!

Like his White House visit today.
Go Hurricane Ike! Knock Geraldo down again!
Wow, really? Thats crazy that you actually met him, when was that then? The 60s? holding an electric object and standing in water?
Its 15 feet from the top of the seawall to the bottom. So check your info before you say something like that.
Proof that God does exist.

Geraldo gets reunited with an old ABC colleague. I hear that John Stossel is joining FOX!
It's a great marriage. Stossel and Fox. His libertarian/conservative views will be more appreciated there.
I remember this I was laughing so much
GERALDO OF ARABIA
2 Hurricanes
2 Fuck Ups
He fared about as well as he did against the skinheads, and found about as much as he did in Al Capone's vaults . . .
