    Alexa 35 is a heavy duty cam. Especially if you chose to film it with an Angenieux zoom lens. Every time I've used that cam, I'm exhausted at the end of the day, but the footage is so beautiful and very forgiving. Not every production needs an Arri, but some projects deserve that image quality.

    Rigged out two Gemini's with Canon 17-120's and shoulder rigged Ezyrigs for a 17 day shark shoot, on and off boats and jetskis and choppers, on day 2 we ditched the 17-120's for Rokinon primes to lighten the load then were handheld by day 5, the footage became way more on theme without the bulk.

    Next time use the lightweight handle. You will loose a lot of weight. 🙂Also loose the Dovetail system below the camera completely. Plus you can loose the production kit Lemo port on the back.

    i think the sentiment of this video is important and a valuable lesson, but tbh, these images, along with your grade are stunning and would be very hard to emulate on a sony fx3. Its not to say the video itself, or the experience working on it, might not have been better with an fx3 overall, but the image fidelity is something very special.

    I made this mistake recently for most of the same reason’s with a fully rigged out Blackmagic 12k. It was a fast paced shoot with limited time available to the location/actors and I foolishly brought a 20+ LBS camera setup. I know better, too, which makes it especially painful in retrospect.

    I think on this project you should have gone for something like fx9,Burano,Fx6,CANON c70,C400 etc this are cameras perfect on the Go. Since you don’t have much crew and you’re the one doing most of the work.

    Is manual focus worth a hustle for solo filmmaker without a AC puller? Thinking about buying sigma/sony 24/70 or a set of vintage lenses or cinema glass.

    • @MattAitia
      @MattAitia  หลายเดือนก่อน

      it’s a trade off, vintage lenses or cine glass are more preferred but at the expense of having to pull your own focus which is just one more thing to worry about if your solo shooting. it comes down to your decision

      @@MattAitia Okay got it.
      Most likely I'll take a not the most expensive kit zoom from Panasonic Lumix and a few soviet vintage lenses with Canon FD/Nikkors to test them both.

      @@MattAitia By the way. Is there a noticeble difference in image texture/sharpness between arri and fx3? Is it possible to match them in post? Or is it impossible the mimic of the arri "filmic" look with filters/post/etc

    • @Eyeofkamau
      @Eyeofkamau หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I absolutely love manual focus and will always prefer to pull focus (even by hand) over using AF. That goes for both solo & crew work. It’s beautiful and really easy to manage when you have the hang of it. Also if the subject goes slightly in and out if focus, it looks far more natural and forgiving than when it happens with autofocus. I’d say it’s more than worth the hustle!

    • @e.adeloye
      @e.adeloye หลายเดือนก่อน

      The answer is simple for me. Cameras are very competent ay focusing. No camera can frame your shot for you. If you have a system that nails the focus 95% of the time and you can fully focus on framing and timing, you'll work very quickly without feeling nervous about being soft.
