Being a home tutor I generally interact with kids, ages ranging between 7-12. While doing casual talks I always ask them about the food they are having and what tiffin they take to school. And the answers are generally Maggi, chow mien, bread, biscuit, and juice. All contain either a high level of processed sugar or flour. And sparsely any homemade food.
Few institutions follow some rules, but the percentage is negligible. Giving up on these foods will be the hardest when they will reach a certain age.
Talking about sports and fitness, physical education is just a subject for them. Raising awareness among parents, initiatives from schools and the government can change this scenario, I guess.

gym adoption VS fitness are two different things. Surplus income or per capita income should be considered when doing lifestyle comparsion. Person's free time has to increase in India. Physical healthy / Mental / Happiness index are important; not going to gym.

No bro but gym goers are ofcourse a metric of fitness , like are we doing sports- No. Free time doesnt correlate to fitness, people with far busier schedules are able to stay fit

Easier to throw statements like these but there is a positive co-relation with gym adoption and increase in fitness. Mental & Happiness index are crucial but an average person who has stress and can't manage these things can at least go to gym few days a week and improve his fitness.

@@rajeshrao2008 why do u have to gym to improve fitness ?? That’s preposterous.. country like India where their is lots of physical labor do they really need to go to gym ? Stop using western metric blindly

@@bajrangvats : You are living in a bubble. Most people living in Metros and Tier-1 cities spend their entire day sitting on a desk in office. That is the lifestyle of an average middle class person. I am not talking about poor and people doing physical work. That population segment is having heart attacks, high BP, diabetes at the age of 40. They are the ones who have access to gym and should improve their fitness. You are the one having issues understanding who this video is address to. Stop thinking everything is western influence and get a dose of reality.

What Nitin mentioned is very right …extra curricular and getting involved in one or two sports will give them a long a healthy life

very true. Gym is not accessible to everyone, and many people hate gym but sports is more accessible and doesn't feel like work

Hey a Surgeon here! Appreciate your efforts on this very important topic, cause as doctors when we are giving these advices, it's bit different! 1. it can be late , as they have already become patients/ got the illness 2. A different perspective including health-nomics is used here which is kind of different from the nature of expert advice we give. 3 Assume a greater impact as most of the listeners will be in a "healthy young" stage of life. #keepupthegoodwork

While I agree with the gym point, at the same time I feel like most of the Indians have physical exercise deeply embedded in their daily routine. With exception of people living in metro cities, there are not many desk jobs available. Hence people are performing physical tasks in their day to day life and don't need gym memberships. We also have much less obesity related issues outside of metro cities

We need to conduct free sessions in schools, corporates, and societies to educate people the basic things. Most households in India have considered these highly sugary things as normal. People eat these trigger foods even after being diabetic or BP patient, saying that things are normal from medication. Another wrong thing happening currently is every influencer is a dietician or nutritionist which is scary. I am a working mother and highly motivated to change thinking towards food and lifestyle. Would love to contribute in any way - podcast, survey etc. Please let me know if I can help in taking this forward.

Nithin is absolutely right about sports.
Gamification within athletic endeavors; for example, incentivising running or walking could help the logistics industry in tackling last-mile delivery issues.

The only way to promote fitness is to incentive wise at corporate and govt levels. If you spend time working out give them incentives. If govt give incentive like European countries to use bicycles then it will work. Fitness is never a lifestyle in India!

Comparison of % of gym goers is a total misinterpretation. India as of WEF recent report is a resource based economy where more than 40% of population is still in agriculture that is full on physical work. So consider 40 plus percent indians are already going to the gym.

.4% penetration- completely delusional! Why? Gym per se means exercise and India has a massive labour force working in primary and secondary sector. People are not numbers, neither is perception
