Great assessment. As a collector I've learned each one of your tips - one at a time. Everyone can benefit from this advice and keep collecting on your own terms.
@@jimmyj4811 That sounds like my system, but I recycle Amazon cardboard boxes 📦, although I have been upgrading to wooden cabinet shelves thrown away in the trash 🗑 😅
eBay is definitely my biggest weakness but I often sort by "least expensive with shipping" I hate it when they say the pictures are the description. and don't say anything about the knife (blade snap, wobble, size, blade length, etc.). I'm a last second eBay sniper. The only thing that beats me in last second bidding are "Sniping Apps" and people who had a higher bid that my last minute sniping bid. I have to admit that I have done the "paid too much" to finish the series. These days, I control it with the mantra that most of the fun comes from the search not completing the quest. And it is a lot more fun when the price is right! I'm a firm believer on have the money set aside first. 4. I have failed on storage as of late. I just have too many knives. Hence the missing Rhino Toe Today. Poor Crackie! 5. I lost sight a long, long time ago. 100% on your thoughts on your personal collecting habits. We all collect different knives. What I buy is always in flux but I'm having fun with what I'm doing and it really isn't hurting anybody. Beats wasting money on hookers and booze... It's easier on the liver and my risk of an STD are minimal.
Excellent video, William, especially the rule about setting a price top price one pays for an auction, and not paying above that no matter what, can be disappointing to lose, but there a lot of knives out there.
There are good deals on eBay but for every good deal, there are 100 bad ones. Good deals go fast and if you do not spend a lot of time surfing eBay, you are going to pay more. You had better look at the seller before you buy and read the description and look at pictures very closely. Sellers do not except returns is one to look for. You can still return almost anything but you will pay for doing it. One seller I bought from the description said new in box. I thought this indicated the factory box. It came in a black box of some sort not the original factory box. Another one said the same except the box was missing the original top. If you are bidding on eBay, you are going to lose more times than you ever will win. Even if you do bid much higher than you think, it should be. I would search more places for the model knife you want than just eBay. Amazon has the same misleading descriptions too. 🐯😖😱😆😅
I disagree. I've been burned a few times but for the most part, I've been very happy with eBay. But you have to be extremely patient and cautious. You have to understand, that their is always a better deal and you need to know what you are looking for. You need to be informed. But Yes you can find just about anything quickly -if you're willing to over pay for it. But if you want to get it at a bargain or even a fair price, you will need to be patient. Like William, set limits and and stick to them.
Very helpful video!

Storage? I keep my large knives in totes in the basement. Over the years, I've got no idea what I have or where they are...

I don't think Hunter collects knives, we know he wasn't a good gun collector.

Now you start a story about a shark and margaritas, and left me hanging. I need to know the end of the story.
The end of the story is: the shark eats little Jimmy because his guardian was drinking margaritas!
