    I love how every piece he plays could be like a soundtrack of a movie. He genuinely makes music. He doesn't just play a technical piece. He tells a story every time... Musicians should really learn from this guy. Technique helps us to make better music. Not to show of, or play "according to what my teacher said that is right".

    An aesthete’s absolute delight. Such a craftsman he was - always digging out the function of the phrases. Gitlis was an artist’s artist and for that he will be forever an inspiration. RIP

  • @raoultak
    @raoultak 15 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    My God...is this normal? Interpretation and technique are so profound. Sometimes a bit controversial, and sometimes he misses a note or two. But Mr. Gitlis interpretation is so unique and trilling, its a treasure and beyond what we ever would expect. Its a miracle. Mr. Heifetz and Mr. Gitlis should walk hand in hand on this piece...but Mr. Gitlis has my credit to lead the way of His Masters Voice.

    • @marcvdm1111
      @marcvdm1111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. You must include Josef Hassid though, probably the best performance of this piece (and one of the few left of this ultimate talent unfortunately)

    • @donesixfour
      @donesixfour 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @marcvdm1111 Hassid has an excellent and clean recording of this piece, that being said, musically, it doesn't compare to this rendition. I am not taking anything away from Hassid, either. It's just that Gitlis has some innate ability to convey some radical ideas in his recordings, and the up bow staccato in this recording is absolutely radical.

    Ivry Gitlis was born on August 22, 1922, in Haifa, Israel, to Russian parents. He is considered one of the most talented musicians of his generation, and many of his recordings are considered classics.
    For me Gitlis is probably the best violinist ever, (After Paganini) and even better than Heifetz

    Simplemente ELECTRIZANTE por su fulgurante vibrato contrastado con su tono blanco. Su staccato es milagroso y el sonido que obtiene de su Stradivari es aéreo, metálico, ligero y cautivador. No se puede tocar mejor, ni siquiera Heifetz. Estamos ante el violinista más hipnótico y extraño de todo el siglo XX. Lo tiene todo: técnica, belleza de sonido, velocidad, afinación. SIMPLEMENTE SOBRENATURAL E INCOMPRENSIBLE.

    his staccato is so fast, he has to hang on the to the note before for extra time, so the staccato run ends on the next down beat. fascinating to listen to, but wondering if he can even control the speed. the piece would sound better if he could slow the staccato down just a smidge and play more in rhythm. but hey, that's Gitlis. been listening to him for 50 years, a unique character in the violin world. life would be boring if everyone played like Szeryng.

    No matter how much I like Gitlis's playing, I would hate to be the person accompanying him. >_> That.... seems as though it would be demanding on at least five more dimensions than accompaniment usually is. Janpoulo deserves many awards for being able to follow this performance.

      The pianists I have personally met that have accompanied him say that doing so was among the peaks of their careers and musical experience.
