As a primarily narrative player, this makes me sad. And will make me very LESS likely to start new projects. Especially in a piecemeal fashion. Meaning $50-$100 at a time is something you can afford from time to time. Feeling you now have to "buy it all" at $500-$1000 at a time.... frankly if I have $1000 disposable, there are several other things I should be spending that on.
@BecauseOfDragons And, there are other models, NIT on these lists, that are suddenly no where to be found that are REQUIRED for Quest of the Ringbeaer. Namely Haldir, March Warden, and Mirannan Orc Commanders..... luckily, I sold a bunch of old magic cards to my FLGS in June, had a HUGE store credit and had ordered up about everything thing I needed. Just a few buts and bobs to go.
We might find that becoming the case - I suppose we shall have to wait and see when it comes to the new rules which should be with us in hopefully a month or two.
What GW really did, looks like killed any competitive turn mesbg could take.. They just want to turn it to a 'movie' narrative game with high cost resin minis, that movie fans will get no matter the price
They have removed some of the variety of the factions-some more than others-but it's yet to be seen how this will actually affect the competitive scene for MESBG. We don't know what their plans are going forward for new miniatures and I'm sure that there will still be plenty of interesting ways for you to build armies in the new edition. I might be wrong but I'll reserve judgement for now.
I feel like games workshop will just be pushing people more to 3d prints now , there’s some 3d prints that are exactly the same. I dislike 3d prints personally , but due to no hill trolls available I got some 3d printed ones and look exactly the same as the unreleased models (just finding absorbing a lot more paint 😂) but overall I got 2 hill trolls with shipping for £15 which I’m sure will be £20 each or £35 + for a pair etc 🤷♂️ I don’t have a lot to invest into the game , and I started trying to build mahud and khandish end last year and now they getting completely removed from the game is quite upsetting as I’ve been trying to slowly get back into it (I only play against my dad and his friend when I see him)
Remember that all of your stuff that you still have has rules so if you're just playing games with friends and family then you're sorted. Obviously a shame if you're looking to build up a larger force BUT I would imagine (as you say) the 3D printing crowd will get involved and fill the gaps for people wanting some of the now vanishing miniatures.
I totally support GW doing this to be honest. I was never really interested in the characters and models that were 100% GW inventions as I thought they were unnecessary all along - stuff like the Abrakhan merchant guards etc. Nice enough stuff, but a bit of a waste of time when there was actually stuff from the films and books that didn't get made at the time. It sucks that Bullroarer and Golfimbul are toast, but I guess that's part of rationalising the time periods they cover. I guess it makes a lot more sense to fuller cover a smaller range of stuff, rather than scattergun everything and then have profiles missing models and vice versa. #unpopularopinion
I think you're probably right - unfortunate for those who liked these ranges but much like you, they weren't particularly ranges I was overly invested in. At least they are keeping the Legacy rules in the mix for those who already have the miniatures in their collection. I hope you're right about the focus on a smaller range and perhaps revisiting and enhancing what they have from the films and the books.
I wish GW would stop with patronising comments such as making models legacy "all for good reasons". They failed to justify it themselves and just pretend like they are being the good guy in this.
Whilst I do wish they would just say "because there's too much stock and we need to cut down on what we offer" they were fairly open about one of the reasons why. "We have also reviewed our factions and tried to boil them down to eras from the movies and books which we want to focus on" - so from a design decision they're cutting out what makes sense for their future plans. Do I wish we had GW making miniatures for all of the book AND movie moments? Yes! But, it's at least more reasoned than the decisions made for games like AoS and 40K.
The length of the list is both surprising, and yet not. The 'book and movie' restriction makes sense and is a solid way to pare back the unit options. It will be a shame to lose some of the more colourful options (like the Moria Warg Marauder) but there's a LOT of bloat in this game so something had to give.
Yeah, I'm not surprised by the Khand and Far Harad stuff as well as some of the other more esoteric miniatures in the range. It is a shame we're using some of the Elves and Dwarves in particular but I can't help but feel like they'll have some plans for them in the future - we shall see.
I think it's loads of them. Shagrat and models liek that can easily be used as captains or used in Batttle companies. A whole or most of a faction is harder (Khand).
Yeah it is quite a shame to see so much/all of the Khand stuff go and Far Harad of course. I didn't collect them and had no real interest in them so it's not really an issue for me BUT I understand that there will be a lot of sad folks.
Just so you have the answer here too - From what the article says, I think that means that it will be just repackaged. So, the miniature shouldn't go anywhere by the looks of it.
@@BecauseOfDragonsthanks that is good to know. Its the main model on my list to buy when its back. That and the (hobbit) trolls and forgeworld mumak were big on my wanted list but the trolls and forgeworld mumak have already gone. I would’ve been really annoyed if quickbeam went forever
The main thing to remember when buying any GW product is buy what you like as quick as you can. You can’t take 2-3 to build and paint an army because the standard GW rules review is every three years and your army may get redundant. But. And it’s a big but you can use these miniatures for miniature agnostic rule sets. If your army has just been made redundant then have a look at Midgard on for pre order now from too fat lardies 👍🏻
Will be intriguing to read the new rules and what they have tweaked. I can't see them being a massive departure - fingers crossed with miniatures being removed we'll get some nice new ones to take their spots.
I think they should give more time and continue making the models to give everyone plenty of time to buy the models they want instead of springing it on everyone and having everything sold out in hours. I dont understand why they dont keep more lotr stuff going anyway because there is a fan base and profits to be made. Even if most of the range becomes made to order so you have to wait a little longer for models to be delivered
I guess whenever they announced this, the "last chance to buy" miniatures would have gone quickly. I don't think there would have been a good time unfortunately. I do agree maybe a Made To Order period would be a good idea (maybe they will return in batches in the future) but I think GW are just wanting to clear out the stock to make room for more.
@ i see on the GW website it says quickbeam is being renamed birchseed. Does that mean the model will be removed from sale or is that one of the models being discontinued?
@@GazBeasley From what the article says, I think that means that it will be just repackaged. So, the miniature shouldn't go anywhere by the looks of it.
@@BecauseOfDragons it is really terrible for people who play the game that models get taken out of the game when they were so expensive. I dont play the game and only paint but i can see the frustrations of gamers who have spent a fortune, plus all the hours of painting, to have their army decimated in one quick swoop. Its a big way to really alienate your customers
As with the AoS change (where a whole bunch of Stormcast got sidelined) - there should be some notice given to those tournaments and other gaming groups who allow a lot of the Legacy stuff to be used. So, even if they can't be used in official GW tournaments - they most likely WILL be usable in other tournaments as long as they have rules. From a collector's point of view, yes, it's a real kick in the nuts. There will be a lot of incomplete collections.

@@johnweibel1128 I would imagine if they weren't on that list and they have gone from the webstore, they will return in some fashion to be reboxed.
I think maybe it would be cool to see some of the more unique special rules taken from these models and added to revised profiles in the future
We might find that becoming the case - I suppose we shall have to wait and see when it comes to the new rules which should be with us in hopefully a month or two.
It's understandable as theres a lot of fluff units, but hopefully, they don't have accidently ruin armies
You've got to think that there will be some balancing and tweaking involved for some of the factions which used to have particule ways of playing.

Yep - there are glorious miniatures from a myriad of other creators (especially in the last few years) that can be used to build your warbands with.
