Thanks for sharing, Simantha. Reading the comments, well done on finding a budgeting “system” that works for you guys. The other thing you need to “budget” is your time, lol. It’s so challenging being a parent, working, running a household, shopping, and somewhere in between that, trying to have some leisure time and fit in exercise. Net result is, in this phase of your life you actually have several full time jobs! Also, trying to cut budgets now is nearly impossible. Energy costs will soon have doubled. Food is up by minimum 20%, fuel is set to go up by 50%. We all have to tighten our belts. That doesn’t mean quit your coffees, they are helping you in so many ways!
Thanks Harmony! I am finding it impossible to tighten our belts, you're so right, there are no easy choices. The only thing now is to increase my income and that's something I'm going to have prioritise but then again, it's finding the time ... It's one big juggling act!
Hey Simantha, you are doing great. I remember these days well. Yes it’s a demanding time in your life financially and it’s a BIG life change. Right now though you guys have your health, family,a lovely home, food, work and for the sake of your sanity don’t give up the small treats you have. It won’t last forever and this is such a great age because the feedback from the little one will be so much fun. Well done you for balancing it all brilliantly x
Thanks so much Sarena - I love this comment and knowing that other mums have gone through the same stage. It gives me a confidence boost to know that we're doing the best we can and you're right, having all the things you've listed really does make us very happy - it's been hard won ❤️ xx
Your comment "She's also very suspicious of mashed potatoes" absolutely cracked me up. My daughter had a texture issue with pasta at that age, so I feel your pain. Solidarity with the budget breaking this month. I had FOUR large and somewhat unexpected expenses come up this month... so frustrating. Here's to April, I guess? Looking forward to your goals update video!
We managed to coax her into having a jacket potato, cheese and beans yesterday. I had to hide what it looked like in a bowl and spoon feed her but she seemed to enjoy it 😍 The Little Madam 😂 I'm looking forward to sharing my goal update video too - made progress in most areas but minimal progress in others 🤪 But overall, looking back at the original video (in prep for the update video) the strategy of goal setting seems be working 😁😁
As glad as I am for you and Andrew being parents, I also sympathize with the fact that your daughter takes up so much of your budget. That's one of the many reasons I don't want kids lol. I'd never be able to afford that. I had to laugh when you said she climbs on you and Andrew. Not only are you her parents, you're also her life-size toys lol.
Thanks Chris! I would never discourage anyone from having children but you're right, it's expensive and takes up a huge amount of time and you have to rearrange your entire life - it also brings with it a huge amount of stress because of the responsibility. I think I went into it naively. Don't misunderstand me, I would never not have Jesmin but if we were ever doing round two, I would be MUCH better prepared, financially and mentally! Haha, we very much are her life-size toys!
Very interesting! I'm surprised that you and your husband have separate budgets. I feel like it would introduce a mine-yours division that isn't helpful as well as create subconscious weirdness -- like if you're paying certain expenses for Jasmine and he's not. But that's just my two cents. Do you love your job? If you weren't working outside the home, would your life be better?
@@lissaToday5787 I think it's fair to comment on why I would shy away from a certain budgeting system. It's just like if someone shows a sleeveless dress, and I say, "I always avoid that style because that style can make the upper arm look big." It's up to Simantha whether she wants to say why it's an effective system, or say that there's some truth in what I say, or just ignore my comment altogether. And maybe someone else will come along and say, "We budget separately and it's great," or someone else might say, "We tried it and then stopped." You don't have to assume the worst, Lissa.
Hi Everyone, thanks so much for your feedback re our budget - I appreciate all viewpoints 😁 So Andrew and I have very different approaches to money - he's more relaxed whereas I'm more frugal and spend quite a bit of time planning for our future - its' something I enjoy doing. As long as we are both paying roughly equal amounts for our household outgoings and Jesmin we're pretty happy and we like having the feeling of being in charge of the rest of our own individual earnings. Issues of mine and yours rarely, if ever, come up and that's mainly because of the approach we've taken 😁 We're still only 3 years into our marriage and 17 months into having Jesmin so things may still evolve and change and I will keep you updated via these videos. Re my job, I absolutely love my career and I'm very career-orientated and I think being a stay at home mum would impact my mental health quite negatively. I went back to work after 6 months of having Jesmin and it really boosted my happiness after suffering from my birth injury and post-natal depression. I enjoy being a hands on mum but I don't think giving up my job would be the answer for me 😁 Thanks so much for everyone watching and commenting, I appreciate it very much xx

If it works for them who are you to judge. Please keep your negative opinion to yourself. Thanks.

@@lissaToday5787 Yes. Agreed. The wise way to budget is to do what works for you.
