This is amazing! I have so many great memories about Jack being a pirates fan. He once talked to me and my dad for what felt like 20 mins ( my dad loves his own voice) at a waterpark in Pittsburgh. He also probably threw me dozens of baseballs after the innings at pirate games! I love this man!
Played against Jack in Sunday league about 10 years back. I hit a leadoff double off him thinking I was tight. He came up in the bottom of the 1st left-handed vs me. 1 pitch later the ball was headed towards right-center and the ball landed about 450 feet away.
This man never threw above 84 but caused more problems for Eric than most of the other guys throwing 90+ have. I’m not saying velo means nothing, but there’s definitely more to the art of pitching.
Yeah, I was actually surprised
There are current investigations that hint that spin rate is equally important to velo and maybe we see in the next years that pitching speed goes down a little, but spinrates go up in order to avoid excessive wear and tear of starting pitchers

Work took us to a pirates lunch at one point, the kind where there's 8 people at a table and one big leaguer. I had no great interest in going (work obligation), neither did the MLBer at our table, but Jack was several tables over and I could hardly believe how genuine he was. All smiles and genuinely involved in the conversation with a whole bunch of people he either didn't know or couldn't have known very well. As soon as the MC said the MLB guys could leave, most did and you could tell they were relieved. But Jack stuck around a little longer on his own time.

It appears Jack Wilson knows how to pitch. I'm talking pitch combinations and locations not just throwing a ball at the catcher. Also, more pitchers should add an eephus into their arsenal. The trick is to be able to throw it for a strike while keeping your throwing motion as normal looking as possible to disguise the ball. Easier said then done, but greatness doesn't come easy.
