How to install CarPlay head unit and backup camera in Lexus GX

The cassette/CD changer combo radio in the GX really dated it. So I brought it into the modern era by installing a new Double DIN head unit that had wireless Apple CarPlay! I also installed a backup camera for safety. Watch the install! Don't forget to follow me on Instagram @fastcarseats

Hey, so I ended up using an aftermarket amp instead of preserving the factory amp and speakers. I made another video about that process.
As for the dash kit, it’s the Metra 95-8166G Dash Kit (Gray). I bought it from crutchfield. Hope that’s helpful!

Wow, your dash is cracked in the same places my gx is I wonder if this is common with all

Yeah this is a known issue in the gx470. There was a recall back in the day, but since I bought the car after the recall period was over, I couldn’t take advantage of it. You can find new dashes occasionally on sites like eBay but it’s a bear to install.

What wiring harness did you use? Also, what dash kit did you use?

Were you able to keep the use of your steering wheel controls or did you lose them with the new radio?

I got the adaptor from crutchfiekd and was able to keep the steering wheel controls.
