My first year as a nurse I had bad hand dermatitis and had to see occupational dermatology. She had me slather my hands in Vaseline and cotton gloves before bed and days off. Made a HUGE difference.

I do something very similar, but with Avene Cicalfate. My fingers crack and bleed from hand sanitizer, as well as the equipment sanitizers at the gym (which we’re required to use before as well as after each exercise). I may try the Vaseline, it’s certainly less expensive!👍🏼🌺🌻🦋💚

From my limited experience shopping at Dollar General I found many items are smaller sized than what you find at other stores so the cheaper prices are not necessarily a bargain. Figure out the price per ounce to see the real value of the item.

    • @AC-wm8fi
      @AC-wm8fi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

LK, definitely! Ounce for ounce, I usually find Walmart to have the best prices for my skincare products. And Costco is best for my holy grail CeraVe in the tub!

I’ve used real African Black soap for years. It is brown (not black like the Shea Moisture brand). It is great for cleansing. It doesn’t leave the film that other soaps leave. Your skin feels much better. It is also helpful for keeping the skin clear.

Great video! Thanks so much Dr. Dray! I’m a regular Dollar General customer and been using their skincare products and I’ll try your recommendations because the stuff I’ve been using is okay but could be better. I’m 43 years old and have very sensitive skin and am acne prone and have combination skin too so it’s really difficult to find good products that work well for me. The Clinical’s products are pretty good and I normally get them from Amazon because our DG is out of stock frequently. Thanks again for your great recommendations!

While there are some deals to be found at places like dollar general, I have been a bit wary as I have bought a few lotions that were expired upon opening. There was so many bubbles in one container of lotion it looked like it was carbonated. I have found that they sometimes will let a delivery set outside in the heat until they have staff to bring it in. I might be a bit of a shopping snob, but I am a bit grossed out over the thought of buy products that close to goin bad.
That Palmers hand cream is a win, as someone with chronic dermatitis it is awesome to use at night. I also sometimes use it on elderly clients feet. If you follow the dollar tree diabetic lotion with the Palmers lotion and layer old socks and either slipper gripping socks you have a powerful foot spa treatment that restores that "crocodile skin" eventually you find the thick layer of crocodile skin in little peels that fell off the feet in the morning and new, pink skin in its place. My elderly clients love it because it is not as invasive as the podiatrist shaving away to skin, which can lead to skin being a little tender.

I’ve used their brand called studio selection generic of cerave hydrating cleanser. I liked it just the same as the name brand for anyone who’s on a budget try it out. The generic Walmart equate version also just as good and also uses the equate version of cerave pm and the hydrating moisturizer.

Being that this is a Dollar General video I wanted to see if you would weigh in on a product that I purchased there. It is the Palmer's Coconut Oil Body Cream. I know, I know ... it has fragrance, but I purchased it before I started watching your videos. Well, I absolutely love this product! I use it on my body after showering. It's nice and thick and I feel it does a really good job of moisturizing my skin. It is about time to buy a new one and I'm torn about purchasing it again but then again I've had no ill effects and I just love it! It is the product that comes in a tub with screw on lid, not a tube.

Video request dr dray plz: managing itch as an eczema patient! When do we stop tolerating itch (using cerave itch lotion) and go in with the steroids? Also trying aloe Vera to calm inflammation and help hydration and coconut oil as a buffer before showering, in addition to my normal fragrance free cleanser and moisturizer (cerave baby and vanicream). Nothing is helping! Bleach soak helps tentatively but doesn’t help long term itch (plus I don’t have a functioning tub, so I can only target smaller areas). Can’t tell if I’m going through a flare or this is a “new normal” for my skin. Been itchy for several weeks now.
Also, what is the optimal level of humidity for an eczema sufferer? Can you show some drugstore acrylic nails that can be helpful to stop the itch-scratch cycle?

Would love a review of Nivea Creme--it's La Mer without the seaweed. $7 for a 1 pound jar at Wal Mart. Too rich for my face (oily, acne and milia prone) but love it on my bod, especially the driest places. Makes me silky! Turns my hooves back into human feet. Helps the rough and bumpy armrest skin. It has a mild fragrance that dissipates, and other ingredients that might be problematic for some folks. Vanicream is closest to Nivea Creme but without the problematic ingredients, for those who need to be mindful of such things.

I didn’t realize Noxzema was still around. I loved the smell and using as a kid. It felt so nice on sunburn. I know - wear sunscreen. I am religious about wearing now. I grew up in the sixties/seventies before anyone realized how damaging the sun is and had SPF even mentioned in Coppertone. I slathered high SPF all over my kids so they would never need to experience the cooling relief of Noxzemza cream. 😎

Before I go to bed, I apply either petroleum jelly or beeswax to my hands. Throughout the day, I apply petroleum jelly cocoa butter cream and since I’ve done that and which I began that routine 13 years ago, I haven’t had eczema rashes on my hands

Black soap is great. It has sharp bits in it, though. I always find that the off-brand petroleum jelly lacks proper consistency and doesn't absorb well.

At age 21, suddenly had a huge outbreak of eczema. Have followed Dr's tips on products with success. Oh btw: Palmolive Dish Soap is only one I can use to wash dishes. He told me to never use Noxzema. I use a little perfume on my clothes/hair. Won't buy anything with fragrance/alcohol. Very cautious of what I apply to my skin. Jewelry is another one. Haven't had a sign of eczema in decades or any other allergic reaction.

Regarding Gen Z not liking Cetaphil… I think it has a lot to do with certain skincare youtubers showing preference to Cerave over Cetaphil. They have such similar products that people seem to be “taking sides” in order to make selecting products easier, and in my experience Cerave has been more hyped by popular influencers than Cetaphil.

I bought the Noxema salycilic acid pads and the menthol is just UGH waaaay too strong and have to hold my breath when using it on my face... I have let it sit for a minute or two and wash it off. Would this be effective and undo the risks of putting menthol on my face? I really want to use SA on my face and this was one of the few alternatives I found.
