    An education is never a waste of time. I completed my law degree at Dalhousie University and practiced law for a couple of years. Now I am a comedian/broadcaster/writer. My education is of use to me all the time.

      hey! if you don't mind could you share the reason why you want to transfer from UTSC to UTSG? I am deciding between two business programs in the two respective campuses, please help me out!

    • @cassw_
      @cassw_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@sonexocarat1059 well when I first applied to uoft I applied for the criminology program downtown but didn't receive admission there. They sent me a counter offer basically to attend Scarborough campus seeing that first-year courses for my desired program are very basic (SOCA101 etc.) so essentially I could have taken them at either campus. But now entering the second year the course becomes more specialized thus why I'm going through the process of transferring.

    • @sonexocarat1059
      @sonexocarat1059 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cassie Wood I see! Thanks and im glad you’re able to transfer :) how did you like (or not like lol) utsc..?

    • @cassw_
      @cassw_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sonexocarat1059 utsc is extremely small and is a pretty campus at face value but there is hardly any good places to study and the food on campus is very limited. The utsc campus made me feel as though I never left high school for many reasons. I'd suggest applying downtown if you want a better uni experience!

    Thank you for this video. My mom has been giving me a hard time because I decided that I didn't want to go back for my Master's and because I decided I'm moving out in July...and it's been really hard. I'm currently stressed about the whole job hunting while also being constantly told that I am making a mistake. So, I really needed this encouragement today. You have inspired me in so many ways. I bullet journal now, and I made it through college with help from your videos/encouragement. Thank you, Caitlin.

      ❤️❤️❤️ it’s so tough when you don’t have that support at home, but know that making the decisions you want to make will leave you with less regrets in the future. When it comes to schooling, you have to have the desire within you to do it (otherwise your experience will probably be shitty)...it’s okay for that not to be the path for you. And THANK-YOU for this message! It’s amazing to know these videos help you out in some way....change is really hard but I’m wishing you lots of luck with moving out and with job hunting 💕😘

Knowing that these experiences are shared with others is really comforting though. But I met some of my best friends on residence, and living in the Toronto area has been liberating because I came from a small town. So glad this video came up in my recommendations.

    I did not have anything figured out when I graduated from undergrad. I tried to apply for a graduate degree and didn't get accepted. So then I just found a job. I needed the break from school despite many people trying to push me towards a graduate degree, but I feel like if you go for a graduate degree or MBA or PHD, you really have to WANT it and I didn't. So it took me 6 years after graduating with my undergrad that I finally knew what I wanted for an MBA and found a university that had what I wanted and could do it online. I'm now 1 year into my MBA. I love my program more than my undergrad and really hoping that it will bring me to the job I desire.

    I told myself a year off after finishing my undergrad and it was the best decision ever. I was fortunate to have a full time job while in school so I stayed with it. I applied for a new position in my field of study and that took a year to get into. Now I am planning to continue school so I can continue in my field. For everyone out there trying to figure it out my best advice is : TAKE A BREAK. let yourself fully acknowledge and accept that school is over (at least for now if that’s what your choose). College becomes your focus for so long that it can take a while to let it go.

    it's been more than 6 years since my convocation on June 2013 and now I am preparing applications for my MBA. A lot of things happened since. I myself had a miserable time as a student(I would call it miserable especialliy because of our school's way of maintaing its academic reputation), although I had definitely great time as a person. For sure, you never know what's gonna happen and how you are gonna end up. Finding what one really wants to do is hard. This is really cool to hear. I start the last year of my bachelor, next september. I know I want to do a master, I know that but I do not know what i want to do after that. I study literature so what i will be doing is a little more obscure. I am also a learner. If i could study for 5 more years for free, count me in. So this is all really helpful to hear. Thank you for sharing!

      tati it’s what you make of it. i’ve found that the people who do well are not looking to get good grades, but who want challenge themselves and actually learn. it’s a heavy course load, there’s no denying that. it seems like i hardly have time to breathe sometimes, and for myself, if i ever find myself bored, that’s boredom i should be putting into studying. if you’re coming straight from high school, you’re in for a little bit of a shock. i’m a very shy and introverted person, but i’ve made a lot of friends because i pushed myself to be social. so, look, a lot of people make this school out to be hell, but it’s up to you to put the effort in.

    I really hope it goes well. Besides the fear, i bet it's also very exciting, having all those ideas bubbling inside of you!
    My little advice is to maybe also do social media and brand consulting on the side, as a freelance, to work both sides of the business. Patricia Bright here on youtube has her own channel, her own brand, but also she does consulting for other youtubers and brands, and it brings in another source of income (separate from the fate of her channel) while also creating networking opportunities. It is a lot of work, but we must dream big, am i right?

    • @katemchale5753
      @katemchale5753 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i can't say that i'm perfect at it or don't think about it, but i think a lot of it is honestly just going through failure and getting bad grades. that's not easy to like actively work on though, so i guess besides that just not asking other people how they're doing or engaging in grade-comparison-talk kind of stuff?

    • @caitlinmariedasilva
      @caitlinmariedasilva  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kate gave a lot of great tips there! For me, in first year I remember studying like crazy for my first few tests and often times I’d get a mark that didn’t reflect that hard work...it initially was hard to accept that because in high school, if I worked hard my grade almost always showed that. But in university, it’s not that simple because each prof/course has veryyy different expectations. So I realized that I couldn’t look at grades anymore as a reflection of my knowledge or work ethic because sometimes something else is at play with that grade...so I don’t take the number so personally anymore. Also, if you’re going to continue your education, grades matter to a certain extent-but most of the time, I think people put too much value on grades as a necessary requirement for success. If you only care about grades, you’ll miss out on a lot of the fun aspects about university (exploring campus, hanging out with friends, trying out hobbies, etc.). Those are the things you’ll remember, not the grades you got in school ❤️

    Im just in the middle of my finals of my degree in the UK. I have one exam left and i am still pretty confused about what to do when its all done.
    My life has been pretty academic centred for the last 3 years at least so its going to be weird figuring out what life is without that.

      Good luck with your last exam! It’s a big shift for a lot of students so you’re not alone in that “this is weird” feeling ❤️
