I've never heard of that bow trick for getting out of a snag before and I'm pretty sure I've been fishing for a lot longer than you :) Thanks for teaching an old dog a new trick. Keep up the awesome content.
I've done a pile of finesse nightcrawler fishing over the past 50 years. Try with no weight as you will get an even more natural sink and drift of the worm. A whole nightcrawler has enough weight to cast it well. I personally like monofilament with no leader to minimize hardware. Another tip, Ive caught very big fish midday in very crowded spots when nothing is biting by dropping way down in line weight. 'm talking even 2 pound test. Of course you need a very soft rod and a reel with a great drag. My working theory is that big fish in crowded spots become very conditioned to fishing line, the subtle difference in how a bait drifts when it is not attached to a hook and line, and getting fat on lost pieces of nightcrawler. Very light line gives a nightcrawler a drift that can't be replicated with thicker and heavier line. Speaking of light line, I set up on a dam in early spring. The stripers were very lethargic. I caught 35 stripers on cut anchovies and the guy next to me couldn't catch a fish. The only different was I was fishing 4 pound test mono with no weight and allowing the bait to sink naturally.
Thanks for the info! I’ve recently been a big fan of braid connected to Fluoro using a double Uni knot. Small diameter line makes for easy/further casting
Totally awesome. Thanks for posting your fishing adventures near Isabella. I've fished that spot several times and enjoyed it. There's also several really good spots across the highway. Looking forward to your next video.
Last video I saw was upper Kern River. When I saw Spillway I figured this was where your at. Ive heard but never been, only upper Kern and the lake. Thanks for posting. I'll have to try but I'd keep a couple of those and have a catfish fry for sure
I have a family member that has a house in the area and we make monthly trips up to visit. Ive fished the lake alot and found some success in bluegil at camp 9 with nightcrawlers.
If you're still in the area & heading north, don't miss the Kings river in Fresno county. Backside of Pine Flat Lake on the upper Kings has some amazing fishing! Amazing scenery too!
@@theu.s.ofangling1344 Yeah, I figured that out after I watched a little longer but the Eastern Sierra's trout season just opened. Saturday they're gay and since you're in the area, you can start off in Bishop. I'm working way to june loop crystal clearwater
@@theu.s.ofangling1344 I have fished the lake and the kern for 30+ years I've only had a few cat that didn't taste like mud.... usually the smaller ones are good...the old ones just have a muddy taste.

Dude you are living the life! Good stuff!
I appreciate it!
Channel cat feeding frenzy! Really cool spot and you've got it all to yourself. Pretty awesome!
I was surprised more people weren’t there! The spot is closed off to vehicles so that probably deters quite a few people. Little bit of a walk

Catfish are the most underrated fish for the table! So many people think they are gross, but they are soooo good!
I'm going up there on the 7th of June I'll have to find this spot so my daughter can catch something
There are so many places to fish in this area, it’s great! I hope you guys catch a bunch! This is the only spillway right below the lake
We came here because of your video….😮😮😮 NO FISH FOR US 😊😢😢😢😢
@@josephinefuentez-green1129 dang!! Hope you get them next time! Thanks for watching!
Head North up 395, fishing the entire way... Mule Day's in Bishop is fun too.
I’ll check it out! Thanks!
I'll second that.. Great trout fishing!!
Intake 2 is catching fish in a barrel
Love fishing spillways! I always try to find them during my travels!
Sweet spot!! Cats are fun for sure!!!
So much fun! Especially when you feel them bite rather than just letting a line sit out. Although the latter is still fun too lol

Thank you for that great advice on how to avoid snagging a rock!
Hope it helps! Snags are no fun

It’s like fishing for bluegill in a small pond.
P line is better than fluorocarbon line
I had never heard about that before. I’ll check it out!

@@theu.s.ofangling1344 It twists easy. I use a barrel swivel to keep the twisting down on my line. Because I use a lot of in line spinners
What’s the brand of the rod with the split grip you were using for catties?
This was the Pfluegar Trion Combo. Under $100. $70 if I remember right
Dang I just missed ya what time did you make it out there to start ?
Right in the middle of the day! Probably noon
@theu.s.ofangling1344 thanks man you be safe, glad you made it to the kern 🙌
Is that kern river ?
Yes
