"Sideways" is my absolute favorite! I am seeing "The Holdovers" tomorrow, so we will see if that is better or the same. In any case, Paul G. stars in both, and he is an amazing talent.
Election, by far, one of the greatest films of the last 25 years. It takes characters that are usually villains and makes them human and very funny. The jock is not a sadistic jerk but a good hearted if empty headed guy, his campaign speech done as a long run-on sentence was hilarious. Tracy Flick was a spot on parody of the over achiever. Many themes used for comedic purposes which most would be afraid to do today.
The Descendants
Nebraska
Sideways
The Holdovers is my new favorite Alexander Payne film.
I taught in a boarding school for 43 years. This film hit all the right notes!♥
Giamatti should win the Oscar for this movie. He is a tremendously talented actor.
Holdovers should SWEEP the oscars. I'm sorry. They deserve all the awards.
Yes, Giamatti deserves it this year. I've seen all the other front runners and his performance is above and beyond.
Agreed!
That movie probably made me feel more than any other movie this year, and by that standard (and I think that probably should be how to measure a film) it was better than the rest. Love this guy's movies
One of the best interviews I have ever seen with Payne. Thank you
Ive been a fan of Payne's work since Sideways. Cannot wait for The Holdovers!
Downsizing is a BRILLIANT film. It’s one of the only movies that I can watch over and over whenever I come across it
You wouldn't believe it @joshhorowitz - but people laugh about movies in solitude as well. I did watch his movie and enjoyed it (for myself) very much. So much so, that I recommended it to others.
My initial feeling that is was very much like a french movie - was spot on I suppose. He did a wonderful job with this one and I can only say thank you, Alexander Payne, for such a enriching addition to the movie world.
This guy is one of the greatest filmmakers of our time.
Best entertainment interviewer out there, thanks for the consistency in your amazing work
I was in the very last scene of The Descendants .. with a speaking role🎉
Perish the thought, but given its inevitability, when you eventually pass on, would you like this fact to be included in your obituary?
So good this interview, ‘The Holdovers’ just fantastic 🎉🎉🎉
This movie is great!
This is an excellent interview
Downsizing is a wonderful film, actually. It's just that so much of it is very, very uncomfortable--like a prophecy. This was a fine interview, thank you Josh!
Agreed. Masterful performances and direction. Giamatti is a damn sorcerer.
This was great!
"Nebraska", "The Descendants" and "Sideways" are the top 3 movies that Alexander Payne directed.💯
The Holdovers > Nebraska
I just saw The Holdovers. Pretty great. Nebraska is better in my opinion.
@@cactaceous "Nebraska" is my favorite movie that Alexander Payne directed.💯
The Holdovers was excellent
Love Sideways, and Election.
I watched the movie last night… excellent movie with great acting.
it's strange but hearing how he delivers his mothers health situation has the same dark comedic timing of a Payne film and it's interesting af..
It’s almost as if there’s some sort of connection there….mysterious af…
no kidding!
The film was a joy from start to finish.
I'm not drinking any fucking Merlot
Downsizing could have been a Vonnegut novel - that’s how good it is.
49:31 is hilarious both with and without context.
I loved The Holdovers. Great ensemble, but, Giamatti was fantastic.
Alexander Payne is great.
The holdovers
His matt Damon movie is a blah. But every other movie is a congress library worthy
I sense nerves in this. Payne is so direct and honest, laid back guy. This felt too tightly-scripted to a point. Horowitz in was in kinda fan-boy mode for the first half. I wish josh had threw him some pointed questions, or just from the heart. Too stilted and stumbling for my taste. Still a fan josh. It gets great by the 3rd quarter of the chat! It misses the true “why” “how” “what” moments when Alex starts to dig down
Tillary Clinton?
Unsubscribing josh. This guy is an accused sexual predator :/
Don't listen to @ThatOllieBloke. His name is Oliver and he's a hypocrite. He assaulted me in a party, and when I sad no he cursed me
yup. they keep deleting my comments when i link to an article talking about the allegation
@nh0522 Yeah, is too easy today just accuse someone on internet and destroy a person's life, but no trial, no legal actions, nothing! We can do this with anyone. So, sorry, an article isn't a trial, isn't a jury, isn't a judge. :-/
Because he is fucking innocent.
Yikes
