This. I was in a community choir for a while. Not the same vibe, but we did a memorial service once, so everyone was already emotional and spiritually hungry. The crowd was packed and into it, feeding off what we were giving them, which fed us back, and it was just kind of a feedback loop. I'm a professional engineer, but there's no better word for what happens then than "magic".

Filled in for a metal band one day thinking that metal was the easiest genre with no groove. But once I found my own groove that fit in my ears opened up to everything I was missing. Fast forward to now, I'm glad to know everything has a groove. You just gotta find it.

Sabbath was 'my band' growing up and alotta ppl think they know... they think its cliche 70's white-guy rock but Sabbath was MUCH more multi-faceted. And they were groovy & funk-ay! They changed time signatures and turned on a dime AS A UNIT. I often say they were the fkn 'Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse meaning that each individual was a force to be reckoned with, but their strengths combined... it was like forming Voltron, the unit was something altogether beyond the sum of parts! Tastiest rhythm section in hard rock hands down. No comparison. Bill & Geezer just soared above their contemporaries. Their feel & flow was like nothing else. And since Tony was proto-Malcolm or proto-Hetfield playing rhythm, they had the freedom to GO OFF on fills & runs... basically mini solos... lots of phrasing & texture while Tony held it down and they were so fkn HEAVY... it was counterpoint to Ozzy's high-pitched melodic chanting. It was hypnotizing. It was everything. Sabbath has been a continuous thread for 40+ years in my life and Geezer's introspective & contemplative, mind-expanding lyrics always held meaning & inspiration for me. Recently I've seen a lot of 'Reaction' channels explore Sabbath and it's great fun to watch it dawn on people that it's not at all what they thought. Their stereotypes crumble and they wanna hear more. One thing that I really dig is the black reactors.. and hip-hop, funk & soul oriented reactors ALWAYS love Sabbath and describe them as dirtay, filthay groovay, funkay, etc.. And Bill Ward FINALLY gets so much love! I dig it. So I echo your sentiment. I love this even more than people discovering Parliament-Funkadelic which is another band that people think they know by stereo-type but are surprised by the breadth & depth. I also echo your sentiment about how you can tell when someone 'feels it'. That is the single common thread among my favorite music: it's authentic about what it's portraying and you can 'feel it' deep within. Love your reactions/reviews/analysis!! Keep up the excellent work!

Would love a T-pain Metal album - Check a band called Death (photo-punk) formed in Detroit in 1971

Good example of a cover that delivers the song well, in an original way. Not to mention the drummer was feelin it!

Now you gotta go check out the War Pigs cover by Ren and the Big Push. I don't want to spoil it but they do a mash up with it, and it holds bags and bags of funk water Michael!

I wonder if Michael has heard Prince covering Whole Lotta Love, or even his Santana Medley. Actually that last one is a great video for Michael to react, since it has one of the best live solos Prince has ever played.

Ozzy himself said this is his favorite version. I'm a massive fan of the old stuff but its 2024, and as much as I and many people hate to admit it, the old stuff can't touch the new stuff nowadays. People love to complain about the state of music nowadays, and I do get it, but there is so much more genre-bending and fusion going on that I find it almost impossible to get bored.

Hearing you go off on the wah playing, I have to go back and search to see if you've ever done a video of Maggot Brain. If not, I'd LOVE to hear you analyze Eddie Hazel's technique and, most importantly, his feel.
