Glad I saw this video just now. I plan on taking my '87 TBI 305 to the strip for the first time this weekend for some fun runs.
I'm expecting low 16s in the quarter. (10.something in the 1/8th?) Not fast whatsoever, but hopefully I can have as much fun as you appear to be having.
This truck started out in the 18's in the 1/4. Go back and find the videos of the progress. It doesn't matter if it's fast, just go have fun. Keep me posted on how you do.

Blue smoke. I see blue smoke as you launch and at the gear change, is that normal? What causes that?

Thanks. The smoke is from the extra ring gap for when we run nitrous.

I've broke a few lol. This one is getting replaced before our next trip to the track. The 3rd gear synchro is about done. Strong, yes. Indestructible, no. Fun to try to drag race with, priceless🤣🤣🤣
@@SquarebodyStuff Well in my opinion you are doing more than just trying, you are doing it. I know that 1st is unsynchromised and it not easy to shift in to it. also a top loader shifts better than the side linkage stuff, with the exception of muncies. Apparently the 2-3-4 shifts are pretty good on that big boy mans transmission. Well it is a muncie, either way I'm kinda of surprised at how fast you shift and how good your truck is working with that transmission.
@davidcraft4909 thanks, I only use 2nd and 3rd at the track. So third takes the most abuse
@@SquarebodyStuff I noticed that, and 3rd always gets the syncros messed up on a transmission that you have to go up and over to shift. I have one that pops out of third, probably from years of grinding it. wait a sec. it messes up the inner synchro hub assembly it rounds off the sqaure corners, the brass synchro make it go into gear the hub assembly and drum is machined to hold it in gear.
@davidcraft4909 yeah, 3rd is the worst on these. When I rebuild them, I always upgrade with the positive locking upgraded 3rd gear set.

Why don’t you run it out 1/4 mile? Then you can shift it into 4th and use the nitrous in 3rd and 4th?
All the other events I'll be going to are 1/8 th mile.
