    As an electrician I have used the same pairs of Knipex combination pliers and side cutters for over 25 years. Both are as good now as they were the day I bought them. I regard that as very good value for money. And i'm not overly careful how I use them.

    I love knipex cobras but being an American I use USA made klein for my pliers and screwdrivers. They get the job done and last for many years.

      Maybe the old Kleins but if you look at new ones it's made in China

    I love Knipex Tools. I first found out about them when i was working for OTIS Elevator in Las Vegas Nevada. I bought a pair of Knipex Alligator pliers. Man without a doubt the best Pliers i have ever used in my life. It made my escalator and elevator repairs alot easier. Take care all and be safe out there

      I know you posted that 4 years ago... but im searching for a bday gift for my hubby who is a 3rd year helper who is gearing up. His Bday is a month away so if you happen to ever see this and have any suggestions about what you guys actually USE and love in general (I know things change, and dont know him, how he works ect) But still you probably have some helpful insight. I bought him some really expensive tools for Christmas that I dont think he needed at all lol.

      @@peppercmg6012 - If you're looking for some good tools that he may not be thinking of, check out the Klein all-purpose needle nose pliers with the crimper. $40 and they replace about 4 tools in 1. Knipex 8" combination pliers are way more useful than most huge pairs of linesman pliers. Most underrated tool that no one ever has? A simple 1/4" spinner handle.

    I'm almost 100% sure you are using the WRONG cutters for this video. The Klein diagonal cutters come with red or blue handles in journeyman series also... red handles are designed to cut copper wire ONLY. I'm a commercial electrician. When I first got into the trade I was taken to the supply house to get myself some tools. I noticed the different color handles for Klein diagonal cutters but not in lineman and I asked the guy the at the sales counter was there a difference in them and without hesitation he said "the red Handles are rated for copper wire ONLY..later I investigated myself online at the Klein website and in the descriptions for the tools I read and noticed all the diagonal pliers that had blue handles listed CUTS ACSR SCREWS AND NAILS ...not one with the red handles listed that in their despcription. Only copper or non-ferrous wire in a few . You should do the research as well because you're definitely going to notice ur knipex pliers lasting longer than the red handled Kleins. I'm positive I'm right ... I might do a video as well and show where it says what the are designed for on Klein's website on the video. It's obvious a lot of people out there are not cognizant of this. Because no one has commented to correct you on your mistake and obviously you aren't aware of this either. Suprising since all have are tool videos.

      absolutely correct. i was thinking the same thing about comparing the red handle Kleins to the Knipex. the blue handle Journeyman 2000 series are the pliers that would be comparable to the Knipex. being said, i've used both, and the Knipex are more durable than the Journeyman. i'm not an electrician, but i've used both pliers installing appliances, cutting a ton of spring steel in the drier vent hose with both sets. the Kleins' are marred. the Knipex show very little wear. since then i've been doing HVAC installs. i use and love my Knipex everyday for the past 7-8 yrs, and will never go back to Klein for any type of pliers. plus Knipex's warranty is better.

    • @Marcel_Germann
      @Marcel_Germann 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Blue and red are the standard colours for the comfort grip on Knipex pliers. There's a red thin grip available too (looking like the Klein-grips), and the red/yellow grip VDE-version (insulated up to 1000 V) or a red only insulated version. I'm using the red/yellow grip of this one here:
      www.knipex.de/index.php?id=1216&L=0&page=group_detail&parentID=1367&groupID=1478
      For harder things I'm using the Knipex CoBolt, compact bolt cutter:

    Not really an apples vs apples shootout, don't really see how the twinforce 'won' since it's a different type of plier.
    Comparing 6" Klein J2000 Side cutters vs 6" Knipex Comfort grip Side cutters would be a fair comparison IMHO.

    • @ElectricalNick
      @ElectricalNick  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Your right, it is not an apples to apples shootout. But the point of this was not to compare relatively similar tools. It was to see who had the best design, hands down in this scenario Knipex, won. But even if I compared the 6" models, it would have been Knipex as they forge the rivet into one side of handle thus offering less probable distortion over extend use, as it has two reference points - where Klein is the exact same tool they came to manufacture 37 years ago - no innovation.

    • @dalefrancis2247
      @dalefrancis2247 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nick Sek I own and use both the Klein(8") and the Knipex (8") in the field, both are great but there are a couple points I think you may have missed. The Kleins have a slightly pointier nose when compared to the Knipex snub nose. The difference is small but noticeable when using them. The pointer nose makes detail cuts easier when conductors are bunched together and you only want to cut a single, or are trying to get something deep in the back of a busy box.
      While you are correct about the forged rivet reducing the chance of distortion over time (and probably the reason Knipex don't need to be broken in). In a real world scenario you would almost never wear out/distort the joint in a noticeable amount before the cutting blades wore out. (or maybe blew a hole in the cutting blades ;) )
      Which brings me to my last point, Steel. Both Knipex and Klein use high quality steel, but they use different grades/blends of steel which give slightly different results when pushed to the limit. Knipex tends to use a harder steel which is harder to mark but is more brittle, which means cutting blades sometimes chip rather then dent. While the Kliens steel (j2000) is not quite as hard marks up a little easier then the Knipex it also means that blade chips are very uncommon. easier to cut with a dented blade then a chipped blade.
      To me the J2000 Kliens and Knipex are equal a lot of the differences come down to personal preferences.

    • @ElectricalNick
      @ElectricalNick  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dale,
      This is by far the best response I have ever received on youtube. Thanks for really putting in the time to illustrate your point.
      I wish I could access the steel compositions and really analyze the hardness and brittleness. I need more of a lab then what I got now and more time my metallurgy is nothing more then a semester course.
      The point is definitely something I missed out on and I appreciate that feedback, I will make sure in a future video that I mention that point.
      Thanks again for the detail outlook, and agreed it is a personal preference - I like both manufactures and will continue to by from both - but Knipex and I just seem to go hand in hand.
      Nick

    I think these are designed for harder material such as piano wire. A bit overkill for high gauge copper. Plus they are have no stripping notches, which is less than ideal. I'd skip these and go straight for their Cobalt Mini Bolt Cutters.

      Xcelite is really decent for the price, not over the top quality but descent - really cheap in price tag, Klein DC230-4C is mid way on both grounds, Knipex 78 61 125 SBA is going to knock it out of the park, but higher end price, overall for electronic work they will all function well. Klein makes lineman's pliers that are better tailored to working with USA wiring installations than the Knipex pliers that are better tailored to how wiring installations Europe and the UK are done.
      That is the only thing Klein meets or beats Knipex on.
