I purchased my water pump rebuild kit on eBay.
For this job you’ll need a hydraulic press (typical 20 ton is fine), a bearing splitter/separator, and a dial caliper.
As an update, I’ve been driving and using this engine extensively, with the factory 4psi radiator cap and temps between 190-200 (that’s with a 180 thermostat, I will change it back down to a 160 as I’ve found the rear of the cylinder head runs hotter than the front, possibly because of gunk in the cooling jackets). It has been leak free.
Word to the wise - Use a fair amount of RTV on those paper gaskets.
In hindsight, while reassembling, it makes more sense to press the flange onto the shaft, before installing shaft and bearing assembly into water pump. More convenient than pressing it onto the shaft when the shaft and bearing have already been pressed into pump housing.
Good video on that 👍 where did you get the parts? Thanks Mick
Hey Mick, here is a link to the one I bought off of eBay. Good kit, I’ve ran the engine quite a bit since the rebuild, and it’s been flawless. www.ebay.com/itm/174752281207?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=QtXZdE07QCO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=YtXoVuRJSpS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
carefully and thoughtfully …
@@bluesriot2 like anything else, if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.
I just bought a rebuild kit off the same guy on eBay for my Clark forklift with a straight 6 continental engine how is yours holding up ?
Very, very well. Just take great care when you install it. Read the instructions carefully on how that seal should be installed. I’ve been driving the heck out of the car, and it has not leaked one drop. Just be sure to dress those paper gaskets with a sealant (RTV, shellac, spray gasket, etc)
