Even Vatican wasn't ready to recognize Santhome church as burial place of Doubting Thomas or Saint Thomas has he fondly known. Even during the 1984 visit of Pope John Paul to Madras, he was not ready and bit apprehensive. But the need to instill faith and Proselytize the locals in to their faith, the then archibishop ( arulappa ) convinced Pope and he reluctantly agreed, in fact there is a full burial place of Thomas in Italy as per the Vatican record. Since this is history one should know and accept what has happened is happened and respect the present status quo. For sure somone is buried there and it is definitely not St Thomas> also Sambandhar's writing and Chettiar's of Mylapore inviting him with Pandhal all the way from Thiruvottiyur to erstwhile Sri Kapaleeswarar temple place ( presently the church) is recorded in PoomPavai story. Sambhandhar came to seashore temple walking all the way from Thiruvottiyur, and the trip was organized by the ShivaNechar Chettiar.
The Dwijasthambam and other things copying Hindu Temple came only after the Pope visit and the need to clone Hindu practices as their Church was getting empty day by day then. Again this is the History and one has to accept and move on and but know the truth and not blindly be faithful

One twist in the Saint Thomas Itihasa... Even the Roman Catholic Church Head, the Vatican, don't really recognise the veracity of Saint Thomas coming in Madras.
Far away from Southern India Roman Catholic Church.
Among the latest popes, Benedict XVI said undirectly that he don't consider - personally - Saint Thomas came to Southern India at all. If I'm not wrong, It's during his visits to Pakistan that he said or approximately said this, generating some reactions in India, peculiarly among the Syrian Christians or St Thomas Christians. For him, it's seems like current-day Pakistan, in its former Gandhara region, was more credible or plausible as the genuine place where Thomas can have gone for preach.

@@mohanrajj1884 Yes, it was John Paul II. Vatican didn't condemn pilgrimage and beliefs into Saint Thomas Mount, Saint Thomas Church in Mylapore, and Saint Thomas coming and preaching in Southern India. It just doesn't have a clear, dogmatic position about it, and consider that praying Saint Thomas in Madras is a well-being. Some people there (in Vatican) give some credits to this site history, and others, like the pope Benedict XVI, don't.
Unlike its stance for the pilgrimage and religious spot of Medugorje in Bosnia, which Vatican officially disown (you can be excommunicated of Catholic Church if you do and inforce this pilgrimage among people), and openly declare that no Marial apparition happened there.
Saint Thomas situation is similar to the famed Saint James shrine and pilgrimage in North-Western Spain, a major basilica and pilgrimage of Catholicism. There, the shrine is said to have remains of the Apostle James the Great, around which a fundamental pilgrimage of Catholicism blossomed in the Medieval era till now. Also there, some questioned the historical veracity of Apostle James coming and preaching activity in Spain. But Vatican, like in Madras, doesn't have a clear stance on it due to respect for people beliefs (Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage is a major religious, cultural, and historical practice and tradition in Spain and Western Europe), and consideration to its long historical legacy in Christendom.

Just coz you don’t believe it … Truth doesn’t become fiction … First St. Thomas came to Kerela in Ist century AD … there are historical evidence n churches there that subscribe to the fact … his travel took through TN and there are historical evidences for that … so do more research before you vomit in the comments without knowing anything … Vatican has doubts …as if you met the pope and got it clarified 😂

Sambandhar wrote , referred it as Mayilai even before arab or MarcoPolo. The Temple was there and it was the burial ground of Tome( pronounced as TOMAY), a portuguese Sailor, who steered the ship during a very heavy typhoon and he was proclaimed to be blessed by God and when he died they buried him and removed the temple later and too the SHiva and Parvati sanctum sancoturm to where Karthikeya's temple. So, the present temple is actually owned by Karthikeya.

Based on contents I feel Sriram is a loyal anglo Brit servant. The fact is we do not have clearly documented history. The Abhramic preaching is strong in fishing hamlet because they were able to sell their 'Arpudham' magic based religion well. Those people has social and profession based risks and issues that were exploited with money and power. I will not be surprised if the current Kapaleeshwarar temple is also made an apartment or Shopping complex or even a Church some day say in next 40 years. What I have heard is this temple was in shore and had samudhram as its theertham. Again no proof to prove.

FYI As per belief Christianity was started by St thomas in ad 52 in Kerala which was one of the trading hub at that time . Kerala has Jewish Presence's at that time itself. But we don't have a solid proof weather St Thomas came in Kerala or not. But between 3rd and 5 th century there are proof that christianity was established in Kerala through merchants who had camed and settled from middle east. These christians were under Church of the east centered in Iraq which uses east syriac litrurgy. The Importance's of this Syriac language is it is a dialect of Aramaya language which jesus Christ used to spoke. In Christianity there are mainly three type of Litrurgycal traditions are their 1)latin litrurgy 2)Greek litrurgy 3)Syriac litrurgy. The 3rd litrugical tradition is present now a day's in Kerala and some middle eastern counties only. Actually Porchughese brought Catholic church to Kerala in 15 th century . They try to impose latin litrurgy to Kerala Christian, s When a syrian orthadox bishop named ahntulla was killed by porchughese in chennai while he was comming to Kerala, which eventually ends in the split of church. rejected Catholic belief and joined Syrian Orthadox Church centered in syria.. To bring them back vatican itself takes initiative and made negotiations. At last Vatican tells that you can continue in Catholic church by following syriac traditions. Those who rejected joined Syriac orthadox church.. Kerala Christian, s have their own traditional dressing style(Chattayum Mundum), artform(Margamkali ), etc which are totaly keralite in culture. There are different types of Christians in Kerala. Major type of Christian, s in Kerala are Catholic( 3 type of Catholics -Syro Malabar, Malankara Catholic and Latin Catholic ),Syrian Orthadox or Syrian Jacobite, Christian,s, Anglican Church Christians and Protestant, s.Syrian Orthadox or Syrian Jacobite,(which uses west syriac in their prayer's )belongs to Oriental Orthadox Christian family which was not present in Europe until recent migration, s happened from Kerala and middle east. The Syro malabar Catholic church uses east syriac litrurgy which is totally different from the latin litrurgy used by Catholics in western Europe.

why the Portuguese have to construct a church on dilapilate d remains of a temple, it requires breaking it down burying it and building on top, in those days with poor lifting tackles this wouldn't have been done, unless it was razed by design, to obliterate this symbol and build on top of it. Good the historian took a politically correct position , illati jadhi solli thitti irupanunga, the perks of sickularism

He is trying to change what Anthanar actually means.
It really means "Wise one" or "Just one".
By equating Anthanar to Tamil Brahmins, he tries to equate their existence in TN for millennia, when their recorded history is hardly 800 years in TN. Significant changes happened to their social status only during Vijayanagar period.
He should have just told Tamil Bramanar instead.

If BJP do this , BJP may win in TN .. let’s have 2 temple .. like how Aadhi Kamatchi and Kamatchi Amman temple in Kancheepuram

why, lets just keep it how it is, if your really want to upbring hinduism and hindu ideas, how about you work on the temples that are already there ???? many temples are in ruins and are being demolished....maybe you can stop that instead of wasting money in building a new one

      +++++++++++++++
I have long pondered on what constitutes this so called religion that is sitting on the head of my Tamizh people and have come up with some conclusions ....
The priest from the Zoroastrian religion came to india with their Avestan language and fire rituals and later created some slogans in old Sanskrit to form the Vedas which was never written down.
These priest learnt the principles of the Samana tradition that originated in the southern part of the sub continent namely in the Tamizh tradition and started incorporating it into their already existent vaiteegam rituals and produced the Upanishads and became vegetarians.
For a solid philosophical footing which they needed in a highly philosophical Tamizh infused land about the 8th century Adi Sankara came up with Advaita logic that distorted the original Buddhist thoughts and produced a dichotomical nonsense which did not last the test of time.
Later they took up the Tantric Samana Tamizh tradition and put forth the bakti religiosity. This they took also from the Christian tradition and desperately created for the Islamic onslaught. Bakti was based on erotism and appealed to the masses. The high Samana tantric philosophical basis was ruined for the newly conjectured 'Hindu' religion of the wretched puranic tales.
This is the history of the Priestly class(Brahmins) that still retain their priesthood in the agamic temples that held sway through the bakti movement from the 10th century onwards. The consecutive non-Tamizh rulers firmly rooted the new found 'Hindu' religion with its caste system( the four varnas) that the British gave the final seal to....
