Tom, great review. Loved the clear views across the lough as a backdrop 😊 Totally agree that it would be rare for 2 people to use exactly the same gear and hat shiny isn't for all tastes. It is great that we have such a range to choose from to get what works for us. I love the warmth of the Montane Flux for cold hill days and wear the Montane Halogen Alpha pretty much everywhere I go 😊

Hi Gerry, I hope that you are well. Thank you for your input here regarding your own user experience of two Montane jackets. I have considered them on a number of occasions but just not pulled the trigger... ATB Tom

Another good in-depth and practical video Tom. Thanks. I must admit, I like shiny. :) Looks like you’ve been out shopping and scoring yourself some really nice gear. Well done. Love the sea in the background too.

Interesting, I learned a lot about synthetic jackets, didn't know much about them. I use to combine three jackets, depending on the type of trip and the weather: a Rab lite down jacket, a very thin rain jacket from Peak UK and the Fjällräven Vidda Pro jacket. However, down is always tricky in wet conditions, so the jackets you show are certainly an option.

Thank you for your comments and watching my video, I prefer synthetic for lightweight insulation simply as its more versatile for very little weight penalty. Not so good for thicker insulation as the weight becomes more noticeable.. On my camping trips I always use the lightest sleeping bag possible and sometimes its not quite warm enough so I will then sleep in my synthetic jacket as well for extra insulation. Great than you can wash it easier too... Hope all good with you. Whats your first name by the way, I had a look on your TH-cam about section but couldn't find any info.... ATB Tom

I like my Rab photon pro jacket, * snuggly * and have recently picked up a fjern Breen jacket as a lighter summer job, good deal from Sport pursuit. Like the look of the cumulus, never mind the features, it looks the mutts nuts!

I have two quite similar jackets: Arcteryx Atom LT hoody and Rab Cirrus flex hoody. The Cirrus is probably a bit more stylish, but I find the Atom LT more versatile. The Atom LT is good for everyday use, backpacking use and as an extra warm jacket when I go cross country skiing in low temperatures.
